Just noticed something funny about Raito and Tomoro's faces
Their eyes
They have the stereotypical protagonist and rival "sharped angled eyes" and "round softer eyes"
But REVERSED
Normally, in anime, the protagonist would be the one with the rounder, softer looking eyes, while their rival would have angular, sharper looking eyes but in Beatbreak it's the other way aroundā The protagonist, Tomoro, has sharper more angular eyes while his rival-slash-lancer, Raito, has more rounded softer looking eyes.
And what makes this even more fascinating is, when you actually watch them in the show, their designs don't feel wrong for the roles and personalities they do have because of how deliberate they were with how they animated their expressions.
Tomoro is by far the more emotional of the two and the way they make him emote in the show reflects this. His expressions are distinct, intense, and obvious. Whether he's sad, angry, annoyed, sad, or happy, you can see it very clearly on his face. His face is also usually animated with more rounded, softer lines compared to Raito, despite Tomoro's more sharp and angular eyes. (That said he does have one hell of a resting bitch face lol)
Raito, meanwhile, is less emotionally vulnerable so he in comparison has a more limited range of expressions to reflect that. His expressions are generally milder, not as intense as Tomoro's are. His default state really is just either serious, angry/annoyed, or smiling cockily (plus or minus the surprised or fearful looks here and there). He lacks softness in his expressions (notice how nearly all the expressions on this sheet exclusively have almost the exact same furrowed brows) despite having more rounded and traditionally softer looking eyes compared to Tomoro.
Side note: This is probably why whenever Raito does pull out that soft expression it is absolutely LETHAL (his eyes are literally built for them!)
