what the fuck are you talking about???? Tartt’s phenomenal skill for building a distinct time and place is a huge part of why her novels are so good. While The Secret History’s place in time is a little more amorphous (late 80s, early 90s) The Little Friend and The Goldfinch’s settings in time are viscerally effective at being 1970s Mississippi and late 2000s (#recessioncore) New York and especially Vegas. Seriously what the fuck are you talking about, what books did you read?
