“Tomb of Talma” photographed by Helmut Newton

In “Tomb of Talma”, Helmut Newton’s infatuation with the surrealist photography of 1930’s Paris comes to the fore. Drawing on the work of Brassai, Man Ray and Edward Steichen, all who had a preoccupation with the surreal potential of antique public sculpture; Newton creates interesting plays between the animate and inanimate, the living and the dead at the famous Parisian graveyard, Pere Lachaise.
