Here’s my first ever attack for my very first Artfight. For this drawing I drew Cuckaracha’s OC, Snow. I think he’s absolutely adorable and silly, I just had to draw him. The sketch, lineart, and coloring was very easy for me, so I was able to finish him quickly. Sadly I don’t have any character sheets uploaded on my Artfight, so I won’t be receiving revenges this year. But that’s okay because my whole goal is to draw as many artist’s OCs as possible.

I told myself to only work on this piece for a few hours. Took me several months to finish, including the times I procrastinated. On what I recall, I started to work on this piece around October or November of 2025. But I didn’t finish this piece until June 6, 2026. I was really frustrated while working on this fanart since I was being harsh on myself. But then I had to remember that this wasn’t originally supposed to look high quality, so I should just draw it and get it over with.

Because this was going to be a quick drawing and nothing else, I didn’t plan on making a timelapse. Which I regret not doing since this piece took a lot of time and it would be difficult for me to describe every detail and how I do everything. So I’ll just be discussing my inspiration and thoughts.

Obviously my main inspiration for my parody artwork is the album cover for Yellow Magic Orchestra USA. And I was also inspired by another parody artwork by artist くぅ。 (Kuuuu). They’re the artist who illustrated the album cover Hatsune Miku Orchestra by H M Oとかの中の人 from doujin circle PAw Laboratory. Their artwork also became a Nendoroid.

As for my thoughts, my artwork was really frustrating to work on. I was having a hard time on how I wanted to sketch Hiro’s design. I had to change his face shape, eyes, nose, and mouth twice. The first two times his face either looked too flat, squashed, or cluttered. I don’t have the previous sketches, and I'd prefer not to see them again because I find them visually unappealing.

The hands and headphones were frustrating as well. I had to at least work on that part of the sketch for 2-4 hours. And I had to take a selfie of myself for reference. Which helped a lot. For the cables and wires, I just drew out colored lines to see where I’m going to draw them, and how I’m going to draw them. 

I also have no clue where the sketch for the headphones are. I think I accidentally deleted it.

Line art was the scariest. To make it easier on myself, I focused on the base and hands first. When I finally decided to work on the line art for the wires and cables, my laptop was lagging. I assumed it was because I had a lot of layers, which resulted in me deleting them to prevent lag. In the end I worked through the laggy mess and just drew the lines without thinking. And of course it stopped lagging when I was finished…

After that I just colored in everything. And I was struggling with the gradient for the hair of course. I’m unsure how to fix it. For glasses I won’t be talking about because it’s too difficult to talk about. 

And lastly, the script. So I was trying to figure out how to download the Round Script by jacebeleran on Tumblr, but the file wasn’t working for me. So I decided to hand-write the script instead, but it looked unappealing to me and decided against it. I asked for help from a friend and somehow I got it to work. And for that I thank them.

Anyway this artwork was really frustrating to work on and it looked better in my head haha. But I hope you enjoyed my work and I hope anyone who likes Splatoon, Hiro, Yellow Magic Orchestra, or anything, I’ll be working on more Splatoon fanart in the future. Especially when it comes to Hiro. Right now, I’m currently working on an unfinished Hatsune Miku fanart. And I might plan on posting character sheets for Artfight. If I decide to join this year's Artfight.

Technically not my first OC x canon ship art, but my first OC x canon ship art to post on Tumblr and other sites! Before I info dump, I just want to talk about how much Hiro means a lot to me. I know he’s just a design that was created for promotional use, but he’s given me so much happiness and comfort. To me, I like to imagine him as this witty, competitive, and kind-hearted octoling, who defends his friends and loved-ones. Although he’s a fictional character, he has inspired me to continue my education, to become a better person, and to improve on my creative skills. 

Sappy stuff aside, I’ll be discussing my art's development. Finally, I have a decent timelapse of my work's progress. Though in the middle of it I forgot to record. But that’s okay cause I was able to get the majority of the footage.

What I struggled the most was angling Hiro’s head and lips to me. It’s supposed to look like he’s kissing my cheek, but I didn’t do a very good job on illustrating that. But just know it’s supposed to imply that. I would have to work on that. But since this piece was made just for fun, I just went with what looked okayish, since I’m a perfectionist and nothing looks okay to me. But since some people find it okay or looks good, I try not to overthink.

I also fixed up Hiro’s hair and put headphones on him to reference his original headgear from the renders. I could’ve excluded the headphones. But to make his design more interesting, I drew them in. Despite the design of his headphones being a little complicated, I find them pretty fun to draw. 

I then decided to handwrite “1st Anniversary Together!” by using the Square Script. Which is a script that appears in the Splatoon universe. But instead of actually writing it with accurate lettering, I actually used different alphabets to make it look like it says the actual sentence. When really it says “UNQ BJJMDDNBAR QWTDQEA”. Pretty funny huh?

For the last part, I felt like the white outlines of the sentence and the polka-dot background wasn’t enough. So I decided to draw cutesy doodles over the illustration. It looks kind of tacky to me, but I’m going to keep them because I find them funny. But if you want to see the artwork without the doodles, I’ve made another export for it. 

I might regret posting this online. Especially the somewhat personal stuff. But it is kind of considered the norm to draw yourself or your OC with a fictional character in fandom spaces. And I have to remind myself I’m not doing anything bad by drawing an amateur drawing of my self-insert inkling with a purplish-blue guy. All I really care about is to show how much I love this character and that’s it.

First Splatoon fanart uploaded on my platforms! And my very first artwork that I have worked on in the Splatoon 3 plaza! Hiro is my absolute favorite promotional character from the third game, and my favorite fictional character ever! I absolutely love his design and his cool attitude from his official renders. This isn’t the first time I’ve ever drawn him, and it won’t be my last. So look forward to more Hiro fanart. And maybe…a self-insert fanart?

Here are three screenshots of what Hiro’s sketches looked like before it became a little bit more polished. I used my finger for the majority of working on this piece. I did end up finding my cheap tablet pen with the rubber tip. But I only used it to work on the Seahorse Shortliner gear design and to improve on the lineart. But for the most part the sketch was already finished and I just used the Nintendo Switch’s D-Pad to shade Hiro's hair, skin, eyebrows, and the top of his headphones.

Here’s a screenshot of the full piece as well. Since I’m not happy with how the quality changed when I got the automatic screenshot into my console. But I hope you enjoyed and are able to see my work in the game’s plaza!

Since I’ve been inactive online, mostly because I was busy procrastinating with school work and practicing anatomy on my own time. I realized I haven’t posted anything online in a while. So I wanted to make something quick and easy to draw. Which took longer than I anticipated. 

I got inspired from listening to the song Roll Me In from the Katamari Damacy soundtrack, which was sung by Yui Asaka. My artwork was also heavily inspired by the original PV for Clover Club by Yuuyu. And pitcher56’s album cover Her Abiding Memory, which was illustrated by Tonomi Murakami. I decided I wanted to try to use minimal colors, simple shapes, and try out a polka-dot design pattern.

Before the final illustration, I made this messy freestyle drawing. I like to think that this is the prototype for the final illustration. I drew this to see how I can illustrate without having to erase, or relying on drawing tools. I was originally going to use the original colors that were used in my first digital Miku illustration. But I decided to use different shades instead.

I was originally going to edit three timelapses together, but for some odd reason the two timelapses near the end got corrupted. Sorry that I can only show one for the first half. I’m still learning how to do timelapses. But as you can see I decided to do a quick sketch first, then try to figure out where the eyes and mouth should be. I then adjust the sketch to the side, just so you only get half of her profile. Since I want to make it look like she’s kind of peaking out.

I made a new layer for clean line art and traced over my sketch. Then I deleted the original sketch. Which might not be a good idea, but it did help me draw where the lines should go. The sketch and line art took a few hours. But at least I didn’t use any straight line tools, since I wanna learn how to hand-draw my own lines to make the drawings more authentic.

I then shade the sleeve and headphones. Then I colored the hair, top sleeve, and tie in the polka dot pattern. I was originally going to add polka dots to Miku’s eye, but they kind of look like trypophobia. So I went against it. I tried coloring her eye in different patterns, but I ended up leaving it blank.

First Blog Post!

Hello internet, I’m an amateur artist who is enrolled in college. I’m from the United States of America, and I only know the English language. I love toons a lot, like Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and Splatoon. I will be posting on my Tumblr about my art and its progress. I will also be showing sketches, talking about my inspiration for the piece, and maybe post speed paints if I figure out how to use technology more.
