many things to hate about the whole "how often do men think about the roman empire?" meme, but the main thing is that when the men behind the meme think about the roman empire they're thinking about like, how great it would be to have slaves to do all your work for you while you march in a legion with your bros, attend colosseum matches, and marry a 14 year-old-girl who will never be allowed to vote

they don't know shit about the joys of seasoning your food with garum and asafoetida, they don't know that julius caesar claimed to have been descended from the goddess venus, they can't tell the difference between the paternalia and the floralia, and they wouldn't even notice if someone buried a lead curse tablet with a little figurine of them with nails in their orifices outside their front door

these guys don't give a shit about the actual roman empire, they just want slavery and bloodsport and gender inequality dressed up in purple silk and unpainted marble
