So, I’m the artist who drew this comic, many years ago now. It was part of a set of one-pagers I did about different times that I accidentally showed my whole entire ass to random people in public. Like, one of them was probably about walking over a subway grate, and another one was about walking out of the office bathroom with my dress tucked into my stockings–which was pointed out to me by one of my coworkers, who then EXPLAINED IT to my boss who hadn’t even seen it, and then I got trapped in this whole humiliating conversation with them about it, that maybe they thought they had to have in order to normalize the situation. I definitely wish it never happened to me, but it was also pretty funny, and I thought that maybe by making drawings/writing stories about these things, I would feel less gross and idiotic about them. Anyway, I’m not sure how it started, but all of the sudden I notice that this post is getting reblogged by a bunch of porn blogs. I didn’t know what to think. I mean, I was sort of creeped out by it, for sure. But, I’m not really being harmed by it in any way, and even though I never expected anyone to beat off to these drawings, I can’t act totally naïve, I put them on the internet after all. Plus, they were already published in a hardcopy form, in my friend’s zine. So I guess what do I really care? I tried not to think about it, even though the tumblr notifications kept calling my attention to it. I finally gave in today and looked at a few of them…only to realize that like, they’re basically all gay porn blogs! I bet nobody even noticed that this is supposed to be a drawing of a chick, despite my huge birthin’ hips and the crudely approximated bra hanging off the rear bedpost. For some reason, this realization has completely neutralized my anxiety about the entire thing. Have fun, everybody! Sorry I made you look at a girl’s butt.

If you reblogged this meme for any reason, you would probably love my dad's comics on @ballandcone . They are all more or less just like this: beautiful, fun, enticingly disturbing reflections of metaphysical thought.

Part of me feels pissed off that my dad didn't get credit for providing the handmade, original punchline for this 10k+ note post. But then again, when I actually write that sentence, I feel a little ridiculous. Like ok, so I personally think my dad deserves to be mega famous for his fabulous art and hilarious abstract gags. But at the same time, it's not like this meme generated a huge amount of money that my dad is literally missing out on. It's just the internet. And it's not like he "wrote" the meme himself. (Maybe I'll even find out that OP--assuming they made this--knows my dad, or they're one of his students, and it's all cool actually) Also, I think he would find this meme funny and satisfying, it's kind of his style of humor. So I don't really know what to say, it was just startling to see this, and there is always that anxious twinge of wanting small independent artists to get the well-deserved credit that they so rarely do.

Ultimately, I hope that people reblog THIS reblog with my caption so that more folks can find out about my wonderful, talented, deserving father @ballandcone . His comics and paintings are really great, and they might even make you feel a little bit better in these troubled times.

*I never do this, but I'm actually going to directly ask mutuals to reblog this if at all possible, like if they don't have a strict theme blog. Thank you very much for saying so! It's been a long time since I have been able to make myself sit down and draw. I don't draw portraits very well, like as far as getting a real sense of the aliveness and subtle expressions of a person's face. For some reason I find it easier to be convincing when there is something very extreme going on with the face, something that takes up space and that is so unusual that I can draw without a lot of preconceived notions about what it's supposed to look like. Like with a regular face, you might have a lot of habits and personal rules built up around drawing eyes or lips or something, and you can't really hide any shortcomings with all the smooth empty planes of the rest of the face. But if somebody has leprosy, say, you really have to draw each microfeature from scratch. So, it's been a good exercise and I'm going to try some more, thanks for being supportive.

A leper from Death Scenes, the published scrapbook of LA homicide detective Jack Huddleston. I didn't manage to catch up with my dad today, but he once repeated to me something he had heard, that if you really want to learn to draw anything you want, you should copy from a book of skin diseases. This came out ok, even though I accidentally wound up overlapping with my warmup on the upper left, so that has sort of an interesting effect. Happy Father's Day, everybody.

@donnerpartyofone: i think i’m just stressing myself out by forcing my ass drawings into a completed composition, but it’s also possible that i don’t know any other way to do it! i got really lazy on my imitation of a tacky sculpture of fire, but i think the foliage around the schoolbus kind of got the right impression across. the best part is the woman’s face, which actually came out a lot more interesting than the original painting i was copying; too bad i squashed her into the binding.
