Genie watched, smiling a little at her leaving the door open because he knew why, he probably would have opened it later if she hadn’t, just in case, he paid the delivery guy, giving him a tip before he left, “Burgers and Burgers and,” he pulled a box out, “chili cheese fries,” and two more smaller boxes, “And it’s not yours but, pie,” he laid them out on the coffee table with the drinks, feeling his stomach give in to grumblings, he hadn’t realized how hungry he had been until now.

Rapunzel perched herself on the edge of the couch, watching as Genie laid out their dinner on the coffee table. “Thanks again for ordering all of this.” She smiled, reaching for her burger once he got settled in his spot. “I hope the smell of all this food doesn’t wake her. I swear, every time I had food brought to me in Avalor, she would perk right up. I have a feeling she’s inherited your food radar.” Zel snickered, popping a fry into her mouth.

Genie sat down on the couch, pulling his legs up under him the best he could before settling and pulling one of the burgers in close, “No problem, you know me, no one’s gonna starve while I’m around,” he joked, grinning at her. He took a bite, chewing for a moment with a look of satisfaction before swallowing. “She might have, I mean, I can smell food from miles away,” he agreed, “but at lest we won’t have to worry about her not finishing her food?” he suggested.

“She’ll be okay, we’ll be right in the next ro-hold on,” Genie disappeared and came back with baby monitors, “Ta-da,” he turned one on and gave the other to Rapunzel, “Now we can hear her if anything happens,” he reassured her, following her back into the living room, just as a soft knock came upon the door, “Foods here!”

Rapunzel grinned as Genie reappeared with a set of baby monitors. “I forgot we bought these. Probably because we also bought out half the Babies’R’Us that day, but I digress.” She chuckled softly, accepting the piece he handed to her. “Thank you.” Zel said genuinely as she closed Sadie’s door behind her — only to crack it open once more, just in case the monitor didn’t pick up her cries. “Oh, thank God. I’m starving.”

Genie instinctively hugged her, before laughing softly, “probably so it’s got me a little messed up too,” he went and found the bunny, pretending to dance it in there to the crib, “oh it’s a happy bun, gonna nap nap with a Sadie bug,” he singsonged before setting the little stuffed animal in the crib.

Rapunzel smirked to herself as she followed Genie into the nursery. Per usual, she hesitated when it came time to put the baby down — but could anyone really fault her for that? Letting out a sigh, she gently placed Sadie in her crib, moving the bunny far enough away that it wouldn’t pose a safety hazard, before standing upright to gaze down at her girl. With a gentle smile, the blonde turned on the mobile that hung above the crib, finally nodding for Genie to follow her back out to the living room.

He walked over, resting his chin on her shoulder, “She’s one thing you’ve done right amoung so much more you’ve done right,” he said, reassurance in his tone, “She just makes it more…complete” yes complete was the word, he watched his daughter sleep, content for the first time in a long time now that this little human was in the world.

Rapunzel swallowed thickly, giving him a reluctant nod prior to taking a deep breath. “God, I guess the jet lag is starting to get to me, too.” She laughed off the way her emotions swelled, quickly brushing at her eyes with the back of her free hand. “Could you grab her stuffed bunny out of the diaper bag? I’m going to put her in the crib so I can actually eat when the food gets here.”

Genie nodded, he was going to have to get used to it as well, it was the first time he’d went outside of the states, much less gotten on an airplane for that long of a time. He yawned, stepping into the other room to make the order, adding that the delivery guy be a little quiet when he knocked. He returned to tell her and ended up just watching her rock Sadie, smiling at the little tune she had made up and was humming, he leaned in the door facing, arms crossed and a small smile on his face, “You’re a natural,” he said softly, but loud enough for her to hear.

Rapunzel stroked Sadie’s cheek as she finally stopped fighting the urge to fall asleep, her eyelids totally falling to hide her vibrant green eyes. It was in moments like these that the blonde felt the most at ease, as if she had finally found the missing piece of her life — the one she ached for so deeply even at the beginning of that year. It wasn’t until Genie spoke that her eyes finally flickered up, away from the baby, to meet his. “Thank you.” She murmured with a gentle smile, her gaze falling back on the baby. After a moment, she sighed. “It feels like she’s the only thing I’ve ever done right.”

He couldn’t help but grin as she talked, “Nah, I bet you were very cute,” he insisted lightheartedly, he adjusted as well to make room for her to hold the little one, his safety dad mode kicking in and being afraid if he bumped them something would happen, “Sure, I can get them to deliver, tell them to knock softly because a sleeping little one lives here now,” he pulled his phone out and scrolled down to the number.

“Whatever you say.” Rapunzel shook her head with a smile, moving to the edge of the couch before standing up. She walked around the room slowly and continued to rock Sadie back and forth — a little trick she discovered put her right to sleep. “Thank you. The doctor said it might take her a little bit of time to adjust to this timezone, so we’ll have to be quiet as mice until she figures out that daylight means it’s time to stay awake. Isn’t that right, Sadie?” She cooed, letting a moment pass before humming a soft, aimless tune.

“I’m sure you didn’t look like an alien,” Genie said with a small chuckle, hearing a little noise come out of Sadie, “See she agrees,” he said, watching her to make sure it was just gas or something then settled back down when everything was alright. “Mmmm. I don’t know, and it’s bad when I don’t know,” he added, looking over at her, “I can make us some burgers if you want though,” Genie offered, “Or order out, whichever,” 

“Oh please, I looked like my parents picked me up from the middle of a crop circle. That’s why you never saw any of my baby pictures. Well, that and the fact that I don’t really have those on-hand. But still.” Rapunzel rolled her eyes, a soft laugh escaping her. “Don’t start using the baby to prove a point. That’s not fair.” She shifted Sadie from her lap and into her arms, rocking her gently as her little eyelids began to droop. “Why don’t we order out?” Zel suggested quietly. “I don’t want to disturb her with too much noise.”

He laughed, “so that’s what you were doing,” Genie couldn’t help but smirk back, “Oh she beats all the prior cute babies in my family, that’s a fact there,” he leaned forward and placed a little kiss on Sadie’s forehead before settling back into the couch, moving his head a bit so Punzie could comfortably rest her head against his, “and will always be loved,” he added, contented smile on his features.

“Yes, but I’ll deny it if you ever tell anyone.” Rapunzel laughed, nudging him slightly. “I’m not sure there were many cute babies in my family, so she very well may be the first on my side. Thankfully she doesn’t look like a weird little alien like I did.” She snorted, smoothing out Sadie’s fine, blonde hair that had a tendency of sticking up in the strangest directions. After a moment had passed, Zel scrunched up her nose. “Have we eaten anything since we left Avalor? Because I just got a sudden craving for a burger and that doesn’t usually happen unless I’m starving or pregnant, so.”

He nodded in agreement, unpacking a few things “I keep checking on her to make sure she’s still there,” he admitted with a little laugh, “still breathing, still, doing baby things,” he sat down, scooting beside Punzie, looking at Sadie laying in her lap, waving with a finger and watching the little one yawn, “Told you we’d make good looking kids,” he teased her, winking, “Yeah, you little cutie,” he cooed at Sadie, his little bundle, him and Punzies little bundle. He was a dad, it hit him, he rested his chin on Rapunzel’s shoulder, watching their baby from her eye level, “We really did it,” 

“Oh, God, me too. I can’t tell you how many times I wake up in the middle of the night and pinch her nose, just to make sure she starts breathing through her mouth.” Rapunzel admitted, shaking her head. She quirked a brow at his comment, a slight smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. “Yeah, yeah, I know. And let the record show I never said you were wrong. But I didn’t think it was possible to make a baby as good looking as her.” She laughed softly, gently tapping Sadie’s nose, which immediately crinkled up from a smile she’d inherited from her mother. “Oh, sweet girl, you’re so loved.” Rapunzel cooed, leaning her head against Genie’s, a content sigh escaping her.

“Oh, no, not Sadie. She’ll be humble and sweet, I just know it. Mother’s instinct.” Rapunzel chuckled as she stepped inside, carefully setting the carrier down before undoing the straps and holding her girl close for the the first time in what felt like too long.

She pressed her lips gently to the top of Sadie’s head, breathing in that sweet, new baby smell and even causing the little one to let out a soft sigh. “God, she just melts my heart.” Rapunzel beamed, moving to sit on the couch and patting the space beside her. “We did well, Agius.” She smirked, propping her legs up on the coffee table so she could lay the baby in her lap and continue to admire her. “We did really, really well.”

Rapunzel slipped out of the backseat first, setting the packed diaper bag on the roof of their car before leaning down to help him carefully maneuver the carseat back out. “You wanna grab that?” She nodded to the diaper bag as she held the baby carrier close to her side, carefully nudging the car door shut with her foot.

As soon as they walked through the doors, Zel and Genie were greeted by an overwhelmingly warm welcome from the staff. The lobby was even decorated, with pink balloons floating over the receptionists’ desk, and a banner that read ‘Welcome Home, Baby Girl!’ in big, pink letters hanging up in the main corridor. But even in the midst of the hustle, bustle, and too-tight hugs from the older nurses, Rapunzel caught a glimpse of a proud Phil watching from the end of the hall, his arms crossed and an undeniable smile lighting up his features.

It took a while for the two to slip away from all of the excitement, but as soon as they did, they all but bolted for the safety and privacy of their own place. “Can you believe how overjoyed they all were?” Rapunzel laughed breathlessly, glancing around as he unlocked the door. “You’re famous, little lady.” She joked, leaning down enough to look at their groggy daughter, who couldn’t have possibly cared less about the fuss that was made for her. As soon as the front door swung open, the girl straightened back up and smiled, murmuring, “And now you’re home.”

Genie grabbed everything, following behind, his eyes never leaving the little snuggle bug in the carrier, it was like he couldn’t let her out of his sight, he had to make sure she wasn’t going to go anywhere, or disappear on him, like he’d wake up from a dream and this wouldn’t all be there. He pushed it back in his mind when he walked into a wall of pink, he broke into a grin, shaking hands with the male nurses, some of the guards, Phil clamped him on the shoulder, “Yeah I let ‘em make it all pink, I’m proud of you kids, and you’re ya know, little...kid” he caught Dr. Moretti telling him. He felt Phil slip what felt like a cigar in his pocket, oh yeah that was a thing, first time dad gets a cigar, he took it but knew he probably wouldn’t smoke it. 

He was thankful to see their place, setting things down and letting out a bit of a sigh, “Home sweet home,” he unlocked the door, glancing down at the sleepy one, “Oh yeah, better watch out, it might go all to her head,” he teased, hearing the click and letting them in, bringing everything in after and following mom and baby. He paused after setting things down and closing the door, watching the two for a moment before going over, sneaking a kiss from both of them, “Welcome home little snug bug,”

Rapunzel couldn’t take her eyes off of her. Since the moment the nurse laid the small, screaming girl on her chest; through the first sleepless nights in their private hospital suite in Avalor; and even when their plane touched down in New York a little over a week later. She was utterly captivated by this little girl — her little girl — whose blonde hair, striking green eyes, and nose-crinkling smile were capable of making her heart swell with love and pride. 

That feeling didn’t dwindle in the slightest, not even as she and Genie struggled to strap the carrier into their car, nor while she sat in the cramped backseat and he drove ten miles per hour under the speed limit — just to make sure they didn’t jostle the most precious cargo on their way back to the Clubhouse. 

Zel was practically glowing as Genie pulled the car into its usual space and cut the engine, her bag already slung over her shoulder and her seatbelt undone as they prepared to bring the most beautiful baby girl home for the very first time. With bright eyes and a nose-crinkling smile of her own, she made eye contact with his reflection in the rearview mirror. “Are you ready?”

He hadn’t been on a plane before, it had been a jumble of new dad nerves and his own nerves of if the plane was going to crash, or if the little one was going to born thousands of feet in the air. Everything after that was a blur, the weirdness of a new country but a familiar feeling in the hospital, sleeping in a chair and waiting, frazzled, being called in to witness the birth of his little girl, him nearly passing out, breathing for Punzie, even though she was doing a very good job of it on her own. The minute he’d held the little bundle he’d fallen in love with her, those eyes looking up at him brought him to tears, and he knew that he wouldn’t ever let anything happen to her as long as he lived. 

Getting the carrier in the car had felt like rocket science, but after getting the seatbelts put where they go and everyone settled, he caught himself looking back at the two at red lights, his heart brimming over with love, trying not to start crying again. He didn’t know he would be so emotional and wondered if this was how all new father’s felt. He had driven like an old lady, several cars passing them, honking and he yelling “baby on board” at them as they passed. 

When he parked he just kept looking at Rapunzel and the little one through the rearview mirror, he nodded when she met his eye, “Let’s get this little bean in her new digs,” he said, a bright smile spreading across his features as he scooted out and went to help get mom and baby out of the backseat.

Fleetwood Mac echoed out the door when Genie answered, a smile on his face that was genuine for the first time in a long time. “Hi Punzie,” he said, sounding like an overly excited puppy, “I was picking up, I’m a mess and yeah, uh, I made mini cheeseburgers and cookies and If you crave the weird pickle ice cream thing I have both,” he opened the door for her, “How’re you and our little bub doing?” He asked.

“Hi Genie.” Rapunzel chimed, unable to stop herself from giggling at his overt excitement. At the mention of how much food he’d prepared, though, she couldn’t help but quirk a brow. “Oh, you didn’t have to go through all that trouble for me! But thank you, I really do appreciate it.” Her genuine smile mirrored his as she stepped inside, setting the catalogues down on the entry table as she shed her light jacket. “It’s the same old, same old for me. Classes, baking, and all. This little one is growing like a weed, though. I think she’s starting to run out of room.” She chuckled, rubbing her belly lightly. “How about you?”

"Alright, uh, I'm doing a little better, still not working as much sort of part time, sort of when they need me, so I can focus on getting my head back together and stuff," he explained. Genie laughed, "Maybe she'll come out and meet us soon? And it's nothing, I wanted to do something for you..." he grinned at her, peeking at the catalogs.

Rapunzel lingered near the front door of her old apartment, a stack of baby catalogues tucked under her arm. Although she and Genie had agreed with excitement that they would spend the evening deciding on decor for the baby’s rooms, something about being alone with him in their old place made her feel, well… nervous. Sucking in a deep breath, the girl knocked on the door, a gentle smile appearing on her lips as she waited for his response.

Genie laughed, “And lo we know who her daddy is,” he said, “Bacon cheeseburger it is, whatever is wanted, we got this,” he stood, straightening his jeans and shirt, holding a hand out in case she needed it to get off the table.

“Ah, my knight in shining armor. Feed me.” Rapunzel laughed, hesitating for a moment before taking his hand – not really because she needed to but, in that moment, she wanted to. And so they left the office hand in hand, only separating when it came time to climb into the car and hunt down some food. “So,” the blonde began as she buckled her seatbelt, “now that we know the gender, I guess it’s time to start talking names.”

"I shall do my best my lady," he replied doing his best Knight impersonation, taking her hand and only letting go once they were in the car, "Yes, something perfect, like her," he lit up for a moment, "And the nursery? And all the adorable little girl things," he turned out on the road once they were buckled and went on a hunt for this one little diner he had been to recently that's bacon cheeseburgers were fantastic, "I'm going to take you to this diner that's, oh my god their burgers are perfect," he explained, "pie is good, but not yours by a long shot,"

Genie moved so he could see the image better, a genuine smile across his face the entire time, eyes getting a little glint in them, “Punzie she’s perfect, she’s so beautiful,” he caught himself waving back at the image, chuckling when he realized what he was doing. “We’re going to be parents,”

While they were staring at the snapshots of their little bean, Rapunzel unwittingly leaned into him, her head on his shoulder and a soft but proud smile still lighting up her features. “Parents… Wow. We’re in for it, aren’t we? All the late nights, the feedings, the crying… And that’s all just coming from me.” She teased with a snicker, finally moving to sit up and slip off the table. “You wanna take all this excitement and parental joy to a diner? This baby wants a bacon cheeseburger.”

Genie laughed, “Yeah I really don’t want to do that, so yes please,” he agreed. Watching him closely the entire time then his gaze followed him back up, “A-….” Genie went speechless, finally processing the word “girl” he squeezed her hand back, “A girl!” He sounded high pitched for a moment, “We’re having a girl! Oh she’s going to be gorgeous and amazing and I-a girl!”

“A girl.” Rapunzel breathed, awestruck as the doctor handed them prints of the ultrasound images. He congratulated them once more before slipping out and letting them have a moment to themselves. “That’s our girl. Our daughter.” She beamed with pride, brushing her finger across the glossy image of their little one’s profile. “Look at her little button nose and her tiny little fingers. She looks like she’s waving at us in this one!”
