SV fic where Shang Qinghua is a Frankenstein-esque mad scientist who is determined to create The Perfect Man, via a combination of complex cloning techniques, artificial memories, and genetic engineering (which provides superhuman abilities).
Shang Qinghua's first viable attempt was Tianlang Jun, who was just too unstable to qualify as a full success. His personality wasn't too bad, although it wasn't what Shang Qinghua was trying to achieve either, but the main problem was his blood parasites crossed the line from "useful ability" to "horror story nonsense" pretty early on, and then TLJ's limbs started falling off. He also proved capable of growing new ones, but a weird theater kid with a god complex who constantly regenerated body parts like some kind of lizard was not Shang Qinghua's perfect man.
Zhuzhi Lang came next and proved to be an even worse disaster. Though the specimen was viable, he quickly mutated into a bizarrely inhuman form. He also took the loyalty programming and ran with it in a weird direction. Shang Qinghua didn't deliberately implant any knowledge of a connection between TLJ and ZZL, although he did use a lot of TLJ's genetics to make ZZL. Somehow, Tianlang Jun just decided on his own that Zhuzhi Lang was his "nephew" and decided to mentor him. Shang Qinghua never really liked eliminating failures, so that was fine by him! The two could look after one another and keep out of his hair.
Attempt number three was Luo Binghe. This time Shang Qinghua decided to let him out of the vat at an earlier development stage (equivalent of mid-teens), rather than relying so strongly on artificial memories, and allow him to finish growing to maturity in real time. He procured a caretaker who reported back to him, the idea being to produce a more stable specimen that had better grounding in reality (unlike TLJ and ZZL, who mostly treat reality like a distant suggestion). In a weird fit of morality, he figured it would be too messed up for him to deliberately groom his own perfect man from childhood. Or teenager-hood. Anyway. Shang Qinghua created Binghe primarily out of the TLJ's successful aspects, major tweaks to the blood parasite system, DNA from a lab assistant TLJ had become fixated on (and who was admittedly pretty good-looking), and of course genetic material from Shang Qinghua himself.
While Luo Binghe initially seemed a lot more promising than Tianlang Jun and Zhuzhi Lang, unfortunately things hit a snag when his hired caretaker up and died out of the blue a few months into the project. Before Shang Qinghua could retrieve him, Luo Binghe was in the wind. It took him a further four years to track down his wayward science experiment, and by then Binghe had imprinted on some random dude who absolutely refused to return him to Shang Qinghua's custody, and also had some choice comments about Shang Qinghua's career and life choices. Fair.
By the time Shang Qinghua found Luo Binghe again, he'd already completed preliminary stages on his final project anyway -- Mobei Jun.
Although to be honest, Mobei Jun had actually been his first project, it was just that Shang Qinghua had to put him aside because initial specimens weren't viable. Breakthroughs in the other projects allowed him to revisit this one, however, and finally take Mobei Jun off the ice. Mobei Jun was the only project to share zero genetic basis with Tianlang Jun, or with Shang Qinghua himself, which was already proving to be a good idea. Physically he was perfect, his abilities (though sometimes unexpected) were stable, and the only real problems were his violent tendencies and temperature regulation.
If only Shang Qinghua could figure out how to get him to stop trying to kill the other specimens...
