❝ a lion still has
claws. ❞
jon snow + close-ups (aka looking cute like a puppy dog)
He’d scoured the nearby regions of the Frostfangs for what seemed like HOURS, in search of food enough to fill his belly for the remainder of the night. He’d happened upon a rabbit as WHITE as the snow, blending in with that surrounding him, yet Jon had a TRAINED eye. The wildlings had taught him much, and that much, he had put to great use.
Pulling the spearhead from the animal’s gut still felt STRANGE to the former crow, trained in the art of the sword. While Longclaw still remained sheathed at his side at all times, he had found that hunting with a blade was much more DIFFICULT than hunting with spears or bows. Many often asked the turncloak as to WHY he had kept a blade gifted to him by the former Lord Crow, yet Jon chose not to say. Perhaps, it was somewhat sentimental to the highborn bastard – the Old Bear had never once treated him poorly during his stint in the Night’s Watch. In fact, the two shared common grounds – being betrayed by men they once thought to be brothers. This wasn’t something Jon would ever speak freely to those around him, for surely, they would heckle him, berate him, and quite possibly take his blade by force.
A twig SNAPPED in the distance, just as Jon began securing his kill to his leather belt. He poked his head out from beneath his hood, listening closely for the source of the noise. He hadn’t invited others to hunt with him, and he had high DOUBTS that anyone decided to follow in secret.
The Night’s Watch, then?
It HAD to be, for he knew their movements all too well. Shadowcats moved just as silent as Ghost, and much like that of liquid smoke. The men of the Watch were clumsy – especially rangers fresh from taking their vows.
Yet, what was it they sought after in the Frostfangs?
After securing his meal for the night at his hip, Jon put his spear across his back. His gloved hands grabbed for Longclaw, unsheathing the blade as he trekked through the snow.
The sound had come from precisely the southwestern regions, where a forest stood tall to his back. His hand a victim to burning in his early days at Castle Black clenched TIGHTLY at the hilt of his blade.
Though he would not ever admit it, even to himself, a part of him PRAYED he would not have to KILL a crow, tonight.

It seemed as though he had been wandering for hours--it probably had been hours. He’d watched the sun set behind the mountains, and yet he hadn’t turned back towards the castle. His boots were snow-caked, and he’d left his brothers back miles ago--neglecting even to bring a horse, knowing full well that the garron would end up twisting a leg, and he wasn’t sure that he could bear slicing another’s throat.
Inattentiveness had led him off the familiar path, but Jon had decided to follow the game trail he’d come upon, hoping perhaps to secure himself some sort of food for the evening--anything to hold him over until morning.
Though when he hears rustling a short distance away, he pauses. Reaches for the hilt of his blade, even though a sword would be dead-useless against a rabbit or any other sort of fast-moving game, he hadn’t thought to bring a bow.
Jon takes a step, not paying attention to where his foot lands, and he hears the damning noise of a snapping twig, his heart skipping a beat. He fights with himself not to curse, settling for a quiet sigh in knowing he’d just scared off his meal. A hand reaches out, pressing against a nearby tree and taking another step, this one more calculated, feeling the snow silent against his boot.
Breath puffs up in clouds as he continues to make his way towards the clearing, slowly pulling Longclaw from its sheath, wielding it in his hands, waiting, watching his step--careful to avoid any sort of unnecessary noise or misstep.

╳┊—————— ❝They won’ bot’er us.❞ A husked murmur, her voice rough and jagged as the stone surrounding the campsite. The crackling embers and flickering flames seem to dance in her steely, unforgiving gaze as another branch is added to the fire; kindling what little warmth they could muster in the foreboding chill of the night air. Winter would soon be upon them. ❝It’s the dead they’ve come for. Cats can smell blood six miles off. They’ll stay near the bodies till they’ve eaten e'ery las’ stringy shred o’ meat, an’ cracked the bones for the marrow.❞
Jon was never comfortable around any cat larger than common--which was probably part of the reason that he could feel her playing with him. Ghost was gone--hadn’t been with him for weeks, which left him wary & particularly uneasy when he heard the cats stalking through the woods. Eyes flick over to her, determined not to show any sort of discomfort, especially since he knew she would give him hell. He’s heard ‘you know nothing, Jon Snow’ about eight times today, alone. Not about to add gloating in the face of predators to the list.
He massages his burnt hand through his gloves, trying to work a bit of warmth back into the almost-frozen digits, leaning closer to the fire before reaching for a smaller branch, poking at the fire in an effort to light the larger pieces they’d added. Avoiding her gaze. ❝At least we didn’t have to burn them, this time.❞

Her hood would not stay up in such high winds, no matter the pins one used. Petyr’s dye had run empty many fortnights ago, what would have proven sufficient for the journey in Spring lacking when faced with mountainous drifts of snow and unforgiving gales. A stripe of Tully red ran along her scalp, unavoidable, regrettable, recognizable. Little matter now, with a keep emerging on northern horizon, burnt and jagged walls a scar upon the landscape. Already Alayne knew no stitched flayed men would flap in greeting, though what brothers of the Watch or soldiers of the Stag King might make of her arrival remained uncertain.
“Ser,” she offered, meaning to pass him by and seek out another, whomever claimed command of her father’s castle. Yet something in jaw’s set forced Alayne to pause, heels scraping in the grit and slush which now covered Winterfell’s yard. Service had aged him, the boy now unquestionably a man, weary creases settling at the corners of mouth and eyes, though even such noticeable marks could not disguise he whom she once called brother. Half-brother. Tugging at hood’s corners, straightening it against the wind, Alayne dared to catch steely grey eyes. “The Lord Commander — has he traveled south as well, do you know?”
He watches her come, making her way steadily towards the gates. Already, he’s not sure of what’s to happen & when she addresses him as ‘Ser’, he can’t help the small smirk that tugs at the corner of his lips. She must not know--or he’s got her read all wrong. Jon was the farthest thing from a knight, Sansa would’ve known that.
He decides to go on with a bit of a game, inclining his head as those born low should, before steely hues glance back at her, the hint of a smile still tugging; though he’s fighting it. ❝ The Lord Commander came about as south as those on the Wall get. You’re looking at him. ❞
