The Run and Go

Chanwoo couldn’t fathom why he was out on a Saturday night, clad in jeans and a casual shirt and jacket outside Neve’s apartment. Even his hair was not coiffed back like usual, instead it hung over his forehead freely. Skylar had been insistent that if he was going out on a not business related event then he couldn’t wear a suit. 

He knocked twice before calling out. “Neve? I’m here are you ready to go?”

Neve heard the door and without much thought opened it as she was going to get her other shoe. “Aye - well just about. Oi close the door it’s about to freeze over out there.” 

She ran about and - well she hadn’t seen him until her shoe was on her foot her dress swirling around the flat she looked up and had to take a second glance. 

“Cad in ainm an bandia - you own other clothes.”

“Oh I know, I caught some trying the other day. Scared em off though.” Char slid into the chair, making them almost eye level. “I mean, I don’t think it is ya birthday, perhaps I just wanted to see how ya were doin’”

“Thinkin’ I won’t notice them,” Neve said her accent getting more pronounced as she leaned back into her chair. “Good they need some scarin’ and there’s nothing more scary then a morrigan right? Not my birthday but then again I can’t remember my first one can I? I’m doin the same as normal how are you?”

“Okay, I think I see you.  Okay!  Yeah.”

Henrik hung up his phone and began to meander through the crowd to sit next to the blonde he’d been wanting to see.  “Neve!  How the hell have you been?”

Neve had been looking around trying to find the voice and realized who it was put away the journal she’d been doodling into. 

“Oi boyo, If this fecking island would stop going topsy turvy I’d be better. How are you? Don’t tell me somethin’ else has gone wrong.”

“Eh? No, no flood.” She responded, “I came to bother ya for no reason other than I sorta like ya.”

“Great mother - they keep doing that though - ya can’t play me for askin’.” She rolled her eyes spinning a chair toward’s her sister. “Oh? Just a friendly chat?What did I do to deserve that?”

“Is it my birthday?”

Sebastian wanted answers, and he knew just the Morrigan to look to. Without their magic, it was not easy to detect her, but with natural instinct and intuition he had finally stumbled upon her, and frantic. 

“Hey, what the hell’s goin’ on here? You alright?”

Neve was not having a good time. Not in the slightest. Her hair - now raven colored again - was full of twigs and honestly she was nothing without her magic. Just a small girl.

“Oi. Of course I’m not fine. What about you?”

Alisa opened her eyes slowly,the last thing she remembered was walking home from the grocery store but something felt different,it didn’t feel right at all. Sitting up she looked around,the view that once was filled with buildings and cars was now replaces with trees and lakes. 

Getting to her feet she began to walk through the jungle that had seemed to have sprouted around her in an instant. “Hello?Anybody around here”.She called out as she walked along a broken branch,hoping for two things,that she wouldn’t fall and that somebody was around the mess of a place.

Neve looked - odd. Her blonde hair that fell around her tiny frame had gone back to the raven locks she had in her first life. More over she couldn’t feel the magic in the air. It seemed like it was gone from her. Something odd had happened. She didn’t like it. 

She heard a voice as she walked carefully in the forest. After all the morrigan didn’t fear nature - or rather she normally didn’t. “Hello?”

“It’s not a question if I can cancel meetings. It’s more that I shouldn’t. It’s quite rude you know.” Chanwoo had always prided himself on his biting wit, it was his main weapon after all. But the unexpected feeling of her fingers on his hand threw him for a loop. He was not affectionate, not in the least sense but it was surprisingly- nice to hold Neve’s hand, and he found it almost natural to shift his wrist so that he could get a better grip on her palm as he followed her.

“Do you have a problem with me calling you noona? It is an honorific used in Korean for younger men to call older women. Are you not older than me?” Chanwoo’s tone was teasing as he spoke. “Anyway where are you taking me?”

“Oi and aren’t you rude most of the time, angel.” Neve said back without a pause. “Wouldn’t have thought you’d care about that.” She naturally threaded their hands moving them to the elevator with a confidence that came from someone that was much older that she looked like.

“Aye - technically speakin’ I’m twenty- three. Callin’ me an old lady isn’t exactly nice.Wounding my pride aren’t ya?” She wasn’t being serious a teasing bit in her voice. Although to be fair Neve aged after all like everyone else. She was mortal after all, just repeatable. “I’ll figure it out.” 

After all Neve had been pretty sure the Angel was going to say no, so her plan went a little wonky at this point.

“Neve you can’t just pull from my work whenever you are bored.” Chanwoo sighed but didn’t complain any more since the idea of food sounded quite tempting. “You’re lucky that I find the man I was meeting with to be quite distasteful. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been so quick to cancel. And oh? Will you be paying for lunch noona?”

“I don’t think there’s anything particularly wrong with it. After all if you couldn’t cancel you wouldn’t be here now would ya? Oi. Why do you keep callin’ me that. Come on.” Neve got impatient and grabbed onto the tall man’s hand tugging at him. Birdie told her to be nicer to him - but she was being as nice as she could be. He was frustratingly uptight.

Soul Mates: Channie and Neve

Neve’s breath stuttered slightly as she realized that she was back on earth, the air had never been her friend and she could hear the patter of her heart. She didn’t look for him - not this time. His duty was back in heaven, and her’s was here. 

Still after the ceremony she went back to the beach they’d walked together with a small smile on her face. The full moon hitting the mother of lunars illuminating the sadness she felt. The bitterness that she hadn’t felt in a long time. Still she closed her eyes and she could feel him. For a second she though she could. Maybe it was just an illusion but she let words drip off her tongue.

“I love you, my darling. I hope you can hear me. I’m not so far away am I? Wait for me.” Her eyes were tightly scrunched and for a moment she could feel his hands on her shoulders leaning over her, like he did when she pointed something out. It made her reach behind her to put her hand on his chest - and all she felt was air.

The illusion left and the Maiden bowed her head watching the waves go around her feet.

Anxiety struck her suddenly and once she took a breath in, and it got stuck in there and didn’t come out. Her eyes got covered in a thin layer of seawater and instead of standing, she just sat on the nearest bench reminding thing. Ophelia did not notice when the queue of salty drops begun to run down her face, but she just could see them hitting her knees and the ground. Scared that she would upset the witch, she tried to pull herself together. “I, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to..”

Neve watched the girl for a moment, and she naturally moved to take a knee in front of her pulling the scarf around her neck to offer it to the girl. After all Neve was a mother - Eva crossed her mind but she had more children than that. It wasn’t something Neve showed often, that was more of Birdie’s area. Still she gently pushed Ophelia’s hair behind her ear.

There was something earnest in the girl’s actions. Something Genuine. Without realizing it Neve’s accent grew older - more lyrical if it was possible. It was soft and gentle, as if it was the earth trying to soothe her. “Aye, páiste. Don’t apologize. You’re a Lunar - or am I mistaken? We feel incredible feelings don’t we? We love so deeply and we hurt so clearly. Don’t apologize, my dear girl.” 

“Never apologize for having a heart. There’s magic in it. A painful one at times, but it’s strong. ”

“Please,” another plea escaped her lips, but perhaps even too weak, too silent for the elder to hear. She bit her lower lip swallowing thickly, a slight blood taste on the tip of her tongue. “I know this is not my place to ask, but I will not know if he’s going to lie again. He lied once, he can do it again. And I want to trust him, I do, but without the truth in my hands, I’m not sure if I can.”

Neve sighed catching the word as it floated on the wind. It was a plea. “He drowned a man, using his magic. Instead of going to jail, which would not solve the magic problem, he allowed me to put him on trial. In some ways it is worse. I have stripped him of his abilities. He has been doing well, and it has been getting better. Truth, my dear child, does not comfort most but I do hope that it gives you some comfort.”

Yes, he did. Yes, he was on probation. And yes, he lied. Ophelia’s face immediately went from neutral to sour and from that only grew sadder with every passing second. 

“..Because he lied,” her voice was a whisper, yellow eyes looking at the ground, mouth slightly opened. Why on earth would he lie? “Neve. Please. Please, what did he do to lose them?”

“Lied. Aye now I understand. He’s ashamed. Things like that make people hide. ” Neve paused not sure what to say. The truth was the nobel way, but the girl herself looked so broken. 

Neve sighed a little looking at the girl, light blue eyes trying to figure out what sadness the other felt. “Child, that’s his story to tell. I’m sorry he lied, I’m disappointed he did. But he’s been trying hard to put that away.”  Even as she said it she knew if she was asked again she’d tell the girl.

“Someone had to start it, doesn’t matter how. I’ve done this before, maybe now again. Fire radiates off heat, of course, I almost forgot.”

“Nobody started it, boyo. Oi sometimes things just happen. Occasionally this place has a temper tantrum. Come on.” She opened the door gesturing for the man to get inside.

“Oh? Oh, yes, okay.” She gave her a weak smile, concern still on her face. But she did as the elder told, and walked with her. “It’s about Sebastian. Clausen’s the last name, but I’m sure you would know.. I’ve heard some rumors he lost his magic years ago. Thought I’d ask, well, if that’s true?”

“Ah yes. Would know his name wouldn’t I? Yes, child he did. After all he’s on probation. Didn’t realize people thought it was a rumor.” She looked  down at the drain that wasn’t working. “Ah there were go. Looks like we’ve got a stoppage.” She moved her hand over the water pulling it up slightly letting it drain. 

“Now why do you look so concerned child?”
