Kara watched Helium and Argon leave Iris's office, having overheard... the loudest parts, at least.
"You really believe that, Helium?"
@newbietrainer
“Eh?!”
Helium’s head sharply turned toward Kara, his green eyes burning with equal parts frustration and confusion.
“Like you’d know what Stheno put me through, Kara. Iris has been lying to me for YEARS about what happened to us and THIS is how I find out?! Who knows what else she’s been hiding!”
"I do know what happened, talked to Xenon earlier. Something that's going on with her is why I was heading to Miss Iris before I overheard things. Take it from someone who'd had a similar thing done to them, there really was a good reason."
"Besides, should be obvious by now that Miss Iris is as blunt as a sack of bricks. She doesn't waste time lying or sugarcoating things, just tells it like it is. Yeah she hid the truth from you both, but if your memories were each nearly as traumatizing as I suspect, you two's brains would have blocked it out on their own. Instinctual defense mechanism, basically."
“…I felt it, Kara. The acid burned into my throat and chest. It melted my larynx, esophagus, and lungs into an homogenous mass. My jaw slid off and it bore into my bones. I can still feel the stinging. It infuriates me. I don’t give a fuck if she had a reason! I deserved to know. I deserved to know what happened to uproot and alter my life permanently!”
Helium’s fist slammed against the nearby brick wall, cracking it. On impulse, Argon blasted the damaged brick with mortar that swiftly solidified and repaired the damage.
“…You think I wanted to become a cyborg? I didn’t have a choice.”
"Let me ask you this. What would you two have done if you'd known from the start? Would you both have become the same people we all know? I'm not saying you're wrong for being upset, you've got every right to be. Was plenty mad at one of my uncles for what he made me forget about." Something to get Helium thinking and to cool his head a bit.
"And yeah, being turned into a cyborg wasn't something you chose. You actually regret becoming one, though?"
