time travel fix-its, my best beloved

So, it’s a poorly hidden secret that I love the trope of “time travel fix it” AUs. The kid where people (usually the main pairing) travel back in time, to a specific point, and THEN the canon divergence fix-it happens. Those are *chefskiss* for me, because I love to see how different choices can make things better. Not all fixed – things aren’t all 100% fine, and canonical plot points twist to still have negative consequences, but often less severe consequences? amazing.

And there are a bunch of time-travel fix-its in qaf, mostly (I assume anyway) stemming from thewinsomewasp’s fic “one more time” – and they all have brian and justin going back to before the pilot.

But here’s the one I want: Justin going back in time to after prom.

Because, he can’t stop from getting bashed. He can’t prevent his disability, or Brian’s PTSD. For better or worse, that’s a constant, a fixed point, and he can’t fix it. But. He does have several more years’ worth of patience and understanding behind him. He knows Brian loves him– loved him at prom, loved him while pretending he never came to the hospital. Loved him even as Brian shoved him away as hard as he could. loved him, loved him, loved him. But also: Justin from seven years in the future hasn’t had to deal with mean Brian in a while. It would be hard. He wouldn’t know if he had the strength to live through it again.

I just think it would be interesting to see Justin – older, wiser, but also more tired, maybe even a lil more fragile, since he’s not used to Brian’s walls being so high – having to deal with the veritable shitshow that is season 2.

Not to mention how he’d beg and plead with the universe to try and have Brian remember their life together. Maybe Brian remembers little pieces, maybe it feels like a far-off dream… but he doesn’t have the whole, so he’s still fighting, until something happens and then the future rushes in.
