chapter 43
-Kate "I probably won’t get back until eight" Steven called over the shower as I entered the bathroom. "Of course you are." Pulling open the curtain he turned his face away from the water shooting me a curious look. "Is that sass I’m picking up?" He asked the humor in his voice making me laugh. "A whole lot of it." "I work all day-" "And most of the night?" "To support my family" he laughed. "And this is the thanks I get?" "Doesn’t matter though. Last I checked I’m the only woman crazy enough to be with you." "Come in here" he smiled. "It’s cold with this thing open." Doing what he said I laughed as he pulled me under the water, his grip around my waist nearly causing me to slip as he readjusted it. "We have to take showers together more often" he smiled against my lips. Nodding I let him kiss me, the warmth of his skin against mine stronger than that of the water. It wasn’t until he made an attempt to raise my leg that we heard the doorbell float up the steps. "Don’t" he objected as I attempted to move away. "I’ll be right back." Grabbing a towel I quickly dried before grabbing my robe and pulling it on. Managing not to slip I made my way to the door and opened it to find Steven’s mom on the porch. "Hi-" "Kate" she replied looking me over. "Where’s Steven?" "Uh, upstairs getting ready for work. Did you tell him you were coming? He didn’t let me know-" "No. Can you get him for me? And put some more clothes on." "Babe, if you’re gonna get things started you can’t just leave like that…" Trailing off as he rounded the corner, Steven readjusted the knot of the towel around his waist before wiping the water from his eyes. "Ma?" "Morning Steven." "What are you doing here?" He asked. "I came to see you" she replied stepping around me and entering the house. "I didn’t expect your girlfriend to open the door half naked." "We talked about this, she’s not just my girlfriend. Besides why didn’t you tell me you were coming?" "I need to talk to you" she responded ignoring him question. "Alone." Keeping his gaze on her for a moment he motioned to the living room. "Let me get dressed" he replied as she headed in that direction. Waiting until she was around the corner he started towards the steps forcing me to follow. "You’re tracking water all through the house" I teased causing him to roll his eyes. "Wouldn’t want your mother to throw a fit." Waiting until we were in the room he shut the door behind me backing me against it. "I was being serious" he replied the seriousness of his gaze making me smile. "Someone was at the door." I giggled as he ducked down to kiss me. "Who was your mother might I add?" Pushing me back against the door he nipped my attempt to slip past him in the bud. He placed a kiss against my lips, smiling once I didn’t pull away. With the baby and his work schedule spending time together consisted of us both falling asleep in bed after a long day. He let his hands untie my robe before lifting me off the ground.
-Tim Glancing away from my computer screen I let out a deep breath from the banging on the front door. "Alright hold on!" Giving a quick glance in Lily’s direction I prayed she’d stay asleep before jogging down the hall. Unlocking the door I pulled it open narrowly avoiding Danneel’s hand. "What the hell Dan-" She nearly knocked me over as she threw her arms around me. Maintaining my balance I felt her arms tighten around my neck as I steadied her. "Alright…" Managing to lift her up, I struggled to push the front door shut before carrying her towards the sofa. Taking a seat I waited for her to stop crying, my grip around her tightening as the trembling of her body increased. I could feel the tears seep through the fabric of my t-shirt causing me to brush against her hair. "What happened?" I asked once she finally got it all out. Wiping at her eyes she let out a tired laugh as I brushed at her runny nose with the sleeve of my shirt. Faintly smiling she attempted to brush my hands away as I dried her cheeks. "My dad" she choked. "He had a heart attack-"
-Kathy Turning the page. of my spiral to finish my notes I paused as a knock came to the door. "Come in." I waited a couple of seconds but the door never opened causing me to get up and cross the room. It was nearly three thirty in the morning which meant it could only be three different people. Opening the door I found Dalton standing almost impatiently there. "Were you sleep?" He asked glancing over my shoulder briefly. "No, studying…you need something?" "Can’t really sleep" he sighed. I waited for him to explain what that had to do with him being here but he didn’t. "Wanna come in?" When he didn’t respond I reached forward and tugged against his shirt until he hesitantly moved forward. Shutting the door behind me I watched as he remained where he was. It was clear he had just rolled out of bed, his hair was all over the place, his clothes ruffled. I couldn’t help but smile as he watched me sit on the bed. "Are you going to just stand there and not say anything?" Shaking his head he faintly smiled before resting against the dresser. "I’m sorry for reacting the way I did. It was inconsiderate." "What?" He asked once he took in my smile. "Nothing, it’s just…that doesn’t sound like you." "What do you mean it doesn’t sound like me?" "I mean, it sounds like your mom." Rolling his eyes he laughed “my mom?” Nodding I watched him cross the room before stopping and sitting beside me. "Right, so if you’re gonna give me an apology…I’d really appreciate it if you did it your way." Facing him I smiled as he let out a deep breath before laying back. "I was mad at you" he sighed as I faced him not objecting as he pulled my legs across his lap. "Because I love you…and I just started thinking of all the guys at school who you’ve could’ve been with. And I’m sorry." "You said you were mad at me." Rolling his eyes he smiled before letting them close. "And other things" he shrugged. "You know how I never wanted you to meet my parents?" "I hope your mom’s as good as your dad" he laughed quietly. "She’s really not" I admitted causing his smile to grow. "I don’t know if I believe you" he sighed. "One of them had to be half right, or you would’ve ended up just like them." "I guess so…" Letting my fingers brush against his hair I faintly smiled as his eyes opened before meeting mine. "My dad." His smile disappeared as his eyes searched mine. His jaw clenched as he sat up causing me to move so that I wouldn’t fall. He let out a deep breath before reaching forward and taking my face in his hands. Placing a kiss on my forehead he wrapped his arms around me before moving to my eyelids.
