yes this does make me feel better actually, medical stuff has been tough, thank you, :')
the fact that generative A.I. has created a completely new fundamental doubt in reality (checking to see if an artwork we see is manmade or not) and doubt in the instinct of enjoying art is unforgivable. its sickeningly tragic, and i mean it. NOTHING is worth this price and i hope that everyone will one day realize this.

nope, never gonna happen. no more of these ever
do you ever have to fight the urge to clarify what emotions characters are feeling? specifically when it will probably be addressed later in the story? in the comments i see people confidently asserting that a character is feeling one way or another, and often commenters will make mutually exclusive claims so one of them definitely Has to be wrong, and i feel like if it were me i'd want to correct them/clarify about my intent as an artist, but i also am not someone with a nearly 30 year history of posting my art on the internet
My default setting is to have characters overexplain things, and I spend a lot of time trying to dial it back and let a handful of words and the accompanying framing and faces work for themselves.
like, you'd think "dorothy, you have always always had me" would kind of explain itself, vis-a-vis joyce's romantic intentions, but sometimes i see people still wanting a deeper written-out explanation and some laborious thought balloons, i dunno
But decades of being in this, as you say, have mostly taught me to hang back and let people not understand. Years ago I would've gotten directly engaged and explained things comment-for-comment, but now? Ehh. It's time better-spent drawing more comics.

Was rereading the old Its Walky archives and found this bit of commentary which I thought was funny, given the current DOA strips. Granted, I love the current arcs, but I was wondering when/if your attitudes shifted from 2017?

i write... completely wonderful perfect college freshmen who've never had a messy terrible end to a relationship
even asher, who, as walky points out early on, is "villain-coded," makes absolutely double-sure his relationship with jennifer is over before agreeing to make out with ethan even a little
everybody always in my strip makes sure to give every relationship's end its due diligence, to exhaustive ends, to the point that lucy has to throw shade at walky for waiting a handful of days after getting dumped before moving on, because THAT is where the narrative has set the moral event horizon

honestly we have no idea how much good comedy is made by two or more people who desperately want to hook up with each other but they can't do that or feel that they shouldn't for whatever reason and so instead they have to become comedy partners
