quick question bc i don't know anything about how this works, but how do you find where people live through IP's and stuff? like can someone do that to me wtf?

Yes and no.

Unless you work for some kind of company that traces those things (your internet provider for instance, or law enforcement, etc) or you're some kind of super-hacker that can get into that information from your service (unlikely), or they hack your account or computer directly or with a virus to access that information (more likely), they can't just go onto your profile page and find your IP and location.

If you mean how I personally obtained Nia's IP (which I blacked most of it out on the callout for obvious reasons), its because I put an IP tracker/recorder on my personal pages.

Which means that Nia herself had to visit (see: stalk) MY pages by snooping around them herself for my tracker code to ping me her IP information. Lots of people have IP trackers on their pages for things like marketing statistics, visitor traffic, and the like.

What those trackers DON'T do is attach your IP to your account automatically.

So if you click on someone's page you've never talked to, don't like/reblog/follow and don't interact with that page and then leave, yes they'll have your IP but they won't know who it belongs to or what account its attached to. Even if you do interact, its hard to connect that information together with nothing to go off of.

It just so happens that Nia--in all her infinite wisdom--told everyone in our group CONSTANTLY where she lived (a specific town in a specific state).

So when she got banned from our group and her IP kept showing up Every. Single. Day. AND she made posts on her public blog directly bashing us for any and everything we said and did, it wasn't hard to connect the IP to her. She's not exactly smart.

There are ways to get around IP trackers and stop them from pinging your IP (IP blockers or VPNs), but honestly unless you're doing something that could get you in trouble (pirating games or something), or you're having problems with someone already, I wouldn't stress about it.

Its not impossible to connect IPs to accounts but it is pretty hard. You usually have to have prior information about a person to ever figure out who it is.

Even then you can get it wrong because it takes quite a bit of prior information and deductive reasoning to connect the two together.

I think murielsblackgf (or however you spell it) might be nia to. They sound very similar so that may be someone to watch.

Hm. They do talk in a *very* similar manner. Very. The resemblance in post style is almost uncanny.

But there’s a few nuances in some things that don’t look like her style, plus I’m pretty sure her current friends would outright lynch her for liking ANYTHING Attack on Titan since they consider it “Nazi coded so no one is allowed to like it or they’re a terrible person”. I hate to do callouts. I really do. I did not want it to come to this. I’d hoped this all would just die out on its own, and I’m very much an advocate of “resolve it in private”, however, that route was already attempted (Keep in mind while reading the IM, that was after 5 ½ months of leaving them 100% alone and yet they stalked us and talked bad about us nonstop that entire time), and nothing came of it, the other person didn’t want to resolve it privately, so now we’re doing it this way.

Just to be sure (because I am a dumb and forget tumblr automatically turns things to Off when making blogs), I double-checked that Asks and IMs on this blog are enabled for everyone.

Nia is free to message this blog at any time if she wants to dispute and/or resolve things here, discuss in detail where the problems really lie instead of making paranoid assumptions, but she is hard blocked from all my personal and RP blogs from here onward, since she never bothered trying to come to me to deal with her shit while I had everything open, yet had no qualms continuing to talk shit and keep spreading lies even though she was told in no unclear terms to stop.

Regardless of whether or not she comes to me, the callout and this blog won’t be taken down, because her patterns of behavior, as shown by the way she deals with being corrected, are highly unlikely to change any time soon, and as shown by the number of testimonies of personal experience with her I’ve received, a lot of people who don’t have experience with her already would do well to know ahead of time so they can block and protect themselves as needed.

I’m sure this sounds mean to her, but if people she would otherwise fight with have her already blocked, there’s no chance of her getting into drama with them, which benefits everyone in its own way including Nia.

Tumblr is a 17+ website.

But it is not a strictly / exclusively 17+ website, because Tumblr is not solely dedicated to 17+ content AS A WEBSITE. You can make a blog about cooking and crafts, or you can make a blog that’s nothing but graphic porn. In either case, Tumblr won’t stop you.

Its not difficult at all to wrap your head around the fact that a website is only as mature or not-mature as its enforced moderation of allowed content. The key word here “Enforced”.

Point. Blank. Period.

Tumblr lists its website as “Minimum age 13+ in the U.S.” because Tumblr is required to adhere to United States COPPA law, which basically means that tumblr is required BY LAW to hard-ban anyone younger than 13 in the U.S. and other countries with these same laws from using any of their services. This clause in their policy is nothing but their cooperation with Federal Law that they will enforce banning you from all services if you are not at least 13 years of age, and you have absolutely no say in the matter to dispute it whatsoever.

It does not mean Tumblr is a 13+ website. It means you, as a person, are not allowed to use this site PERIOD if you are under 13 years of age, no exceptions, no “but I’m mature for my age” excuses. You are not allowed to be on Tumblr. Period. Or most other websites for that matter.

It does not mean Tumblr as a whole is appropriate for you if you are under 17. It just means they won’t ban you outright for your age regardless of whether you have or haven’t done anything wrong except for be online and make an account.

If you’re making an account on a site that basically says by way of indifference and lack of any action: “Hey, if you wanna draw bad art of your 13 year old anime husbando getting violated up the butt by a dragon with a 10 foot dick, we won’t stop you”, sorry to burst your bubble, Its a Mature Rated website. I am relieved to see this blog even if I wish you all had not suffered. I once followed Nia, back then I didnt even know the people she harmed. I only saw her own posts but I felt uneasy. To me it looked like general stuff that she "defended" with occasional targetting, but it was enough to know I wanted to back out. To this day I'm still unsure if she ever vagued about me and a friend but it harmed us to see how she acts, and we were just bystanders. She's harmful as long as she doesnt change

There are. They were included in the callout, but I understand there’s a LOT to go through so its easy to miss. Its a story called Borrasca. Its extremely long so it takes a while to get to the reveal about what the story is about, but I did think to take screenshots of the part in question that goes into detail. The aforementioned kidnapped characters in question are initially kidnapped in 4th grade, but the story timeskips to several years later when its actually discovered what happened to them.

If I may, because this is incredibly relevant to what all happened here, @snapcracklebang put it very well:

Attacking people for fictional content is frankly really damn ugly. Especially if they write certain content to cope, because they have trauma associated with that content. It doesn’t matter if you disagree. It doesn’t matter if you don’t care what someone’s reason is and you don’t like it. It doesn’t matter how loud you scream “think of the children!” on a website that is 17+.

It doesn’t matter.

Writing certain content doesn’t mean condoning it. It doesn’t mean normalizing it. And nobody online is forcing anyone to read it if they don’t want to. In fact its physically impossible for someone online to force anyone to read anything they don’t want to. And when its clearly marked with bolded warnings, trigger warning tags, and under a read more, giving you blatantly clear instructions that the content is triggering and not child friendly, there is literally no excuse whatsoever to be attacking someone for their fictional content.

There’s no reason to be saying someone should “go to therapy instead” (how do you know they’re NOT going to therapy?), or how dare they write it “where children can see it”, on a website not meant for anyone younger than 17.

If fiction normalizes a clearly-not-normal concept to someone, or otherwise damages them, that is the fault of bad or negligent parenting, not having the proper guidance in real life and taught to think critically enough to step back and say “this is just fiction. It does not affect me”. That isn’t the fault of the content. That’s the fault of being raised with poor judgment and an inability to separate fiction from reality. That is YOUR personal problem to solve, not the rest of the world’s.

It is not the responsibility of strangers on the internet to raise and teach every child or teen what safe practice and critical thinking is.

It shouldn’t be, and it never has been. That is the job of parents, family, and legally recognized, real-life authority figures (lawmen, teachers).

The internet is not your personal “safe space”, it is a shared space where you control how you interact with it and what you see.

You do not get to DICTATE how people interact with the internet or manage their space any more than SOMEONE ELSE gets to dictate how YOU interact with and manage your online space.

You do not get to POLICE the internet to conform to your PERSONAL comfort. It doesn’t work that way.

If nobody is going out of their way to INVADE your space directly (like private messages) and make it unsafe in YOUR space, you have no right to invade or police someone else’s, no matter if you agree or not.

No, seeing it on your dashboard because you followed someone, or going to their blog directly to consume their content, is NOT invading your space and making your space unsafe.

That is YOU moving into THEIR space, making YOURSELF unsafe. Their blog is THEIR SPACE. You Do Not Get To Police It. You can unfollow. You can block. You can Report if you really want to or think its necessary. But that is all.

And just because you read some articles on how “fiction affects reality” on the internet, doesn’t make you right, and it does NOT justify attacking someone’s fictional content when they are otherwise MINDING THEIR OWN BUSINESS.

Fiction affects reality because, frankly, the world is full of idiots who were never taught (again, NEGLIGENT PARENTING) that fiction SHOULD NOT equal reality, that what they’re looking at is FAKE and NOT TO BE CONDONED OR MIMICKED.

Stop attacking people over fiction.

Fiction is not the problem.

PEOPLE who are not taught to DIFFERENTIATE reality and fiction are the problem.

Stop making it the job of writers to censor everything they do for your “personal comfort” or “the children!” if you’re not going to make it YOUR job to properly maintain your space, tag your triggers, NOT CLICK ON CLEARLY WARNED AND LABELED MATURE CONTENT, and EDUCATE “impressionable young people” that they should take everything they read, “problematic” or not, with a grain of salt and high criticality, and should REGULARLY remind themselves that all of this content on the internet, all of it, does not affect them unless they let it affect them.

I’m glad that this blog exists, Nia has vagued about me and my ship, and had made me highly uncomfortable and actually caused me bad anxiety when I was following her. I blocked her cuz she was so hostile, saying things like ‘all white boys are so disgusting, sorry but it’s true’ and stuff like that. But it’s nice to know I am not the only one who feels uncomfortable with her and sees her negatively. I hope one day she will leave tumblr, or improve her behavior... but I doubt both.

Yeah. I’m actually amazed (well, kind of, but not really) at how many messages I’ve gotten regarding other people talking about their bad experiences with her. I have yet to get even one message in my inbox defending her or her actions.

I used to see those posts she’d make and after a while I unfollowed her as well. One, two… Hell even five posts was like “yeah, alright, she can have whatever views she wants”, but after months I got tired of seeing it. I didn’t have anything against her or bitterness at the time of doing so (this was like, 2016?), but I have enough negativity in my life already without coming online and having it shoved in my face here too (despite what she and others want to claim about “you can just turn off the computer and go outside and never have to deal with this stuff because you’re [insert whatever “privileged” group here]”).

I highly doubt she’ll leave tumblr. If anything, she’ll just jump to a new blog, make a “fresh start”, then enact the same behaviors all over again and wonder Why-She-Keeps-Having-Problems (and then she’ll attribute it to being black, probably, even though nobody is going to know what or who she is unless she tells us about her blackness, which she does, frequently. For all anyone knows, I’m a super genius bilingual parrot who learned how to type, or a highly advanced computer AI. Its the internet. Nobody knows anything about anyone beyond what you tell them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Not that hard of a concept to understand).

I doubt her behavior will change much, but maybe. We can only hope. Maybe she’ll actually get the help she clearly needs. I hope she does because frankly I don’t harbor any ill will towards her as a person, mental illness is hard af and people need support with that shit, but her behavior and unnecessary disregard for the safety and comfort of others needs to stop.
