Master bedroom adaptability study - designed to support changing family needs, from an infant stage with shared space to future separation as children grow

The living space explores openness and adaptability, allowing residents to adjust the level of privacy while maintaining a lively and connected atmosphere
The shop area reconnects livelihood with home, inspired by local culture, where small businesses and social interactions happen alongside residential life
@feststudio5-26
The external view focuses on the relationship between the dwelling and the lagoon, inspired by the local Joali tradition. Adjustable tension nets create adaptable spaces for relaxation, play, and connection with the water
Semi open spaces for daily activities. Open drying areas, greenery, and vines help respond to the coastal salt breeze while creating a comfortable shared environment.
Exploring integrated systems within the design, including movement, rainwater harvesting, and water management strategies that allow the project to respond and adapt to its environment.

Peeling back the layers. An exploded axonometric exploring how structure, space, and systems come together to form the design

A collection of roof explorations developed throughout the design process. From simple sketches and structural studies to parametric experiments, each iteration tested different spatial qualities, forms, and possibilities

Development- Details
The detail model is an adaptable panel system where sliding, rotating, and removable elements allow constant reconfiguration. Solid, glass, and planted panels can be combined in different ways to control privacy, light, and ventilation, creating flexible spatial conditions within the spaces.
The interior detail model demonstrates how spaces can be transformed over time, such as a master bedroom that can temporarily accommodate a child and later be reconfigured again as needs change.

Development - Dwelling
In the first initial idea, there is a solid external form with internal modular and transitional spaces, exploring flexibility within a fixed envelope.
It then responds to the idea of the tree incorporated in the souvenire shop. From a solid base growing outward, extending to provide shade and softening edges. This still includes adaptable transitional spaces within.
Eventually, the dwelling develops into separated yet connected parts where rooms can be expanded, divided, or removed over time, such as a master bedroom that can temporarily accommodate a child and later transform again. The project reflects continuity through change, where space remains in constant adaptation.

Development - Cluster models
While each cluster follows the same spatial framework, no two clusters are expected to be identical over time. Organized around a shared communal core, residents gradually adapt and personalize their surroundings according to their needs and lifestyles. Some clusters may become greener through planting, while others may support children’s play, gathering spaces, workshops, or communal activities. As residents modify and inhabit these shared spaces, each cluster develops its own character and identity.
Extensions projecting from each dwelling, form a continuous layer of shade across the cluster. These extensions create shifting patterns of cover over the central pathways and communal cores, allowing the spatial experience to change throughout different clusters.

Development - masterplan models
The masterplan is organized as three layered settlement strips that gradually transition from island to lagoon.
The inner layer remains closest to the island, acting as the most stable and connected zone while maintaining strong relationships with existing community life.
The middle layer becomes more curved and adaptive, creating communal lagoon pockets that accommodate recreation, gathering, and shared public activities.
In the outer layer the curves become even tighter, wrapping around to bring people closer together and foster a tight knit community feel, even out on the water.
Together, these layers reflect the project’s concept of adaptation and transition, creating a gradual shift from the familiar conditions of the island to new forms of inhabitation within the lagoon while maintaining social and cultural continuity.

Concept Submission - few sketches and ideas, sustainability and systems
@feststudio5-26
Inspired from Guraidhoo’s adaptive character, this masterplan breaks away from linear, and change into a series of fluid, curved settlement strips that extend into the lagoon. As the settlement moves outward, the increasing curvature naturally forms intimate communal pockets, strengthens the connectivity between clusters, and softens the threshold between land and water.
By linking shared cores, ecological systems, and public spaces, the masterplan creates a varied spatial experience as you move from core to core.
