Chapter 7
You were peacefully resting in your bed, dreaming about your celebrity crush when your obnoxious alarm clock rang. You groaned at the sound and normally you would turn it off but, today was an important day, today you were going to apply for your mentor. Without further ado, you got out of your bed, excited and somewhat nervous. It wasn't an exam but, you had to make a kind of resume and depending on that you were going to be assigned a journalism professional or as you would call it a mentor who would guide you in a more professional way. You would be fine with any professional, but you would like to have a mentor who had an excellent professional career and experience.Without thinking you got out of bed so you could start getting ready to go to college. You quickly had some breakfast and left your house like a flash, however, Mr. Johnson, the older man who rented you the apartment where you lived
.“Good morning, (Name)!” The older man who was sweeping the entrance of the building greeted you.
“Good morning, Mr. Johnson!” You greeted him with the same energy
“I see you are very happy today and with a lot of energy” he smiled at you
“That's right! It's a very important day today” you explained
“Oh really? Then I won't stop you anymore” the older man said softly
“Thank you! Have a nice day!” You said to walk again but out of nowhere you remembered something and turned around.
“Wait, Mr. Johnson!” You called him again and he turned to look at you
“Yes, (Name)?” He asked you
“I'll pay the rent today in the afternoon, it's just that in my rush I forgot the money in my apartment” you said a little embarrassed
“Oh, of course! Don't worry about that, kiddo!” said the older man with a smile
"Thank you very much! See you later, Mr. Johnson!" you said goodbye and then ran back to the university
Fifteen minutes later you arrived at the university faculty where your friends were already waiting for you to enter the classroom and finally be able to fill out those damn forms.
When you had your form in front of you, your mind went blank. What should you start with? Maybe with your grades! Or not, better with your practical performance! You were undecided and that was making you nervous since you only had an hour and a half to answer it.
No... You couldn't have an anxiety attack at that moment... Breathe...
Take a deep breath and close your eyes for a few moments.
You are a good student. A good human being
You can do this
Good. You knew how to start.
That was the fastest hour and a half of your life but you managed to make a decent resume in your opinion. You left the classroom with your friends, satisfied with your writing. With a calm heart you attended your other classes.
The day went by quickly in your opinion and soon you were on your way to your apartment. On the ground floor, there was Mr. Johnson again but now he was sweeping the entrance of his apartment. With a smile on your face you walked towards him.

"Hello Mr. Johnson! I'll give you the rent money right now" you said and he seemed to pale a little when he saw you
"Y-you don't have to worry about that rent thing, (Mr. / Miss) (Name)" he said stuttering a little at first but with a nervous smile on his lips
"What? What do you mean? And you know you don't have to call me that right?" your smile faded a little when you heard the old man calling you
"I know, (Mr. / Miss) (Name)" he said still nervous "But I didn't know that..."
"You didn't know that...?" you asked, wanting to know what he meant
"I didn't know you were Bruce Wayne's kid..."
What the fuck?
"No, Mr. Johnson, he... he's not my father" you said a little confused
"No? He came to pay your rent and..." you interrupted
"He did what?" you said angrily
"Yes, and he also bought this building. He gave me a large sum of money and he's going to let me stay here with my family. He's a good man, your father" the older man smiled gratefully at you
No... He wasn't a good man. He and none of his other children were good to you.
What do they want from you now? Now that you were happy?
"No... I-I... I have to go..." you ran towards the elevators to go to your apartment
There weren't any cars that screamed Bruce Wayne outside the apartment complex and much less fit in the small parking lot. So that meant he was gone, right?
When you got to your apartment, you were going to open the door when you noticed something on the knob. It was a little scratched and turned more easily than in the morning.
Oh no...
Oh no...
Anyway you opened the door with your keys and even though everything was dark you could feel the presence of someone there.
"Okay, what the hell do you want?" you said as you turned on the lights so you could see Bruce better sitting on your couch
He was wearing a suit and had his hair combed, most likely he just left Wayne Enterprises.
"You have a nice apartment although... It's a little small" Bruce commented "I could give you a bigger one"
"Answer the question Wayne" you said with anger evident in your tone of voice
Bruce sighed and couldn't deny that hearing you call him by his last name as his rivals normally called him broke his heart a little more. He stood up and walked towards you to stop in front of you.
"I came to see how you were" Bruce said sincerely
You laughed at his words.
"See me? Me? Please! Don't make me laugh" you said with a smile but Bruce could see you were angry
"And you didn't have to pay my rent. I don't want to owe you more than I owe you"
"Owe me? (Name), you don't owe me anything" he was going to take your shoulder but you moved away from him
“I don’t want to have any relationship with you” you said while looking at him coldly
“As soon as I can I will pay you. Including my rent now” you sighed desperately
“You are my firstborn, my blood, (Name), I will always worry about you. We all worry about you” he said while trying to get closer to you but you just moved
I AM NOT YOUR CHILD!
It was what you wanted to yell at him but you weren’t going to give him the satisfaction of seeing you frustrated with just his presence so you just sighed. You were better than him than all of them.
“How did you find out that I lived here?” You asked him, a little calmer
“I am the best detective in the world” he pointed out
“And yet it took you several months to realize that I no longer lived in the mansion” you attacked back, but before he could answer, you spoke again
“Look, I am going to say this to your face. You aren’t welcome in my home, I don't want your charity, I don't want anything from you so please go away” you asked him in a firm voice
A voice that seemed very familiar to him
“Okay” he nodded after a few moments of silence “I’ll leave but I won’t give up”
After that promise he left your apartment making you let out a shaky sigh
How the hell did he know where you lived? That was your first thought, then you remembered Alfred and Duke but soon you dismissed those thoughts when you remembered that neither of them knew where you lived.
The next few days were quiet, Bruce hadn't shown up at your apartment, much less his children. Everything had been very quiet and that put you on alert because you knew very well that Bruce always kept his promises.
You were in class, focused on the professor when suddenly the director of your course named Mr. Wilson, knocked on the door of your classroom.
"Sorry to bother you professor" apologized Mr. Wilson "But I need Mx. (Last name)"
"Sure, Mx. (Last name), please" the professor pointed to you so you could go to the director
Intimidated, you got up from your place and walked towards Mr. Wilson. Once both of them walked out the door you finally spoke.
"Did something happen, Mr. Wilson?" you asked him
"The rector wants to talk to you" the man answered
That took you by surprise. Did something happen? Why did the rector of the university call you?
The rest of the walk, both remained silent until they reached the principal's office.
"The principal is already waiting for you" your director said without further ado and left you in front of the door
Your hands were shaking and you could feel your heart racing. What had you done wrong? That was the question that was going through your head and without thinking you knocked on the door.
"Come in" could be heard from inside and without further ado you went in
When he saw you, the principal smiled at you and motioned for you to sit in a chair in front of his desk
"Did something happen, principal?" You asked politely as you sat down on the chair
"No, nothing bad happened, Mx. (Last Name)" he assured you "I just wanted to tell you something"
"Sure" you nodded and paid attention to what he was going to say next
"Well, you see Mx. (Last Name), I didn't know your father was Bruce Wayne" he started to say but you interrupted him
What..? Bruce had come...? That left you speechless but you spoke anyway
"Y-yes... H-he's my biological father but what does that have to do with this"
"Yes, Mr. Wayne came and told me that from now on he's going to be paying for your tuition so your scholarship has been completely withdrawn"
You paled at his words.
Did they take away your scholarship?
Your scholarship that you had earned with so much effort?
"And he also made a nice donation to the university" the rector noticed your bad state
"But you don't have to worry, Mx. (Last name)! Or should I call you Mx. Wayne?" Your father will cover all your expenses"
"Please don't call me Wayne" you asked him
"Oh..." he seemed surprised but he nodded "Sure, as you wish"
"T-that would be all?" you asked with a broken voice
"Yes... sure" the principal nodded a little confused with your reaction
Without further ado you got up and ran out of the building.
Why did he even have to get involved in your studies?
You didn't want to go back to class anymore and you were going to ask one of your friends to pick up your things, for now, you had to relax. You ran your hands through your hair pulling it a little, while you sat under a tree. You put your head in your hands, trying to control your breathing.
(Name)?" a voice near you spoke and you recognized that voice perfectly
You got up and saw Tim kneeled in front of you while he looked at you with concern.
"Tim..." you said as more silent tears fell down your face. cheeks "W-what are you doing here..?"
"I came to see a friend but... Did something happen...?" he asked softly
"No, nothing" you said as you stood up and turned around while wiping your tears
"Hey! Wait" Tim grabbed your wrist but you quickly moved it away from him
"Could you leave me alone, Drake?" you said irritated
"Something happened to you" the young man confirmed
"And how do you know that something happened to me?" you asked him while crossing your arms
"You were crying and you're angry" he pointed out "Besides, you're not like this. You're normally a nice person"
"And what do you know about me, Drake?" you asked coldly "We've lived in the same place for several years but no more and don't pretend that you don't know why I'm like this. You're Bruce's right hand man, he tells you everything and the rest of his lackeys but mostly to you. You don't know even the half of who I am. So now leave me alone"
You turned around and walked away from him towards another direction on campus, leaving Tim surprised by your words.
"You heard them, didn't you?" Tim spoke into the earpiece he was wearing
Tim couldn't deny that your words didn't affect him but you were right, he didn't know you and he never bothered to do so and that makes him feel guilty...
What would have happened if he had given you a chance like Duke did? Would you be just as close?
Yes, Dick was always with him when he arrived at Wayne Manor but normally he was in Bludheaven and he couldn't deny that there were times when he felt alone until he met his friends from the Young Justice League...
If he felt alone then you must have felt more alone... Only for 15 years...
He would have shared his loneliness with you and maybe today he would be in Duke's place and instead of seeing him with that cold look, you would look at him with love and affection... Like an older sibling looks at his younger brother. And yes, he knows he has more brothers but they didn't look at him in a tender way, but as an equal, as someone else, but he wants to feel that soft love that he sees in Conner and Jon and that he knew now you could give him.
"That's right. They didn't seem too happy that Bruce started paying for their tuition" Dick spoke
"To be fair, I would have reacted the same way" Jason said now who was eating what sounded like some chips
"Jason, you react like that to anyone" Tim said as he started walking
"I don't think you should have gone" Duke said who sounded nervous
"It was good to try" Tim said
"But now they seem more distant than before thanks to father and Drake" Damian said an angry
"Come back Tim and we'll talk more here" Bruce ordered
"Yes sir”
"Alfred, I think this is going to get out of hand" Duke said, as he walked around the kitchen
"I know (Name), they are very stubborn" he said panicked
"And I know them too, Master Duke" Alfred said while washing dishes "I know that what they have always wanted is the attention of the family and now they have it"
"And what happens if they find out that we are part of this? They will end up hating us! I-I couldn't stand it" said the young man scared
"Maybe I should send them a message to tell them that we didn't know about this?" he suggested hastily
"Message?" someone asked from the kitchen door Both Alfred and Duke turned to see who it was and opened their eyes wide when they saw Cass.
"Miss Cassandra" Alfred greeted but she only looked at Duke with an intense gaze
"Message?" the girl repeated again
"Y-yes..." said Duke in a small voice
"You have… (Name)'s number?" asked Cass
"Y-yes..." nodded Duke
"Miss Cassandra" the butler spoke again as he stood in front of Duke
"Yes, both Master Duke and I have (Name)'s new number”
"So both you and Duke have kept it from us that you have my child's number?" Bruce asked in a stern voice.
Once Cass found out about this, she quickly called a meeting when Tim returned. They were all in the Batcave with Bruce standing in the middle in front of Alfred and Duke, the buttler being calmer and the boy who was much more nervous.
"That is right, Master Bruce," Alfred nodded.
"Why did you hide this from us, Alfred?" Bruce asked, a little hurt, making Alfred's heart sink.
"First of all, it is worth clarifying that it was my idea, not Master Duke's, so do not get mad at him," Alfred began. "But I knew that if we told them we had their cell phone number, all of you would try to call them nonstop. I do not want to sound rude, but we know (Name) better than anyone, and they are just as cunning as all of you. If you start forcing this thin thread you still have with them, you will only make them break up, and then we would be in serious trouble. You neglected them for years; this new attention from all of you is uncomfortable and overwhelming. You can not force this if you want them to come home again."
Everyone fell silent at Alfred's words, for he was right. They can't expect you to accept them back so quickly, but eventually you would...
No?
"Fine, Alfred, Duke," Bruce nodded. "Tell us what we should do."
Alfred's heart began to beat faster, though no one could notice. Finally, his plan was coming together now that the whole family was on the same page. Some more than others, but soon everyone would see you as he did.

Damian Wayne wasn't a problem child. Definitely not. He wasn't hanging off chandeliers (that was Dick), dying (Jason), running a crime ring (also Jason), hacking government seals (Tim), wasting his life on a caffeine addiction (mostly Tim, but sometimes Cass), or at all bothering his family. So it was very surprising to his step-mother, Y/N Y/L/N-Wayne, when he stormed into her room seemingly mid-tantrum.
"It's stupid. Absurd. Maddening, even," grumbled the young heir, flopping onto Y/N's four-poster bed, "It's unthinkable, making me do something I do not wish to do."
Y/N spun around in her desk chair, smiling slightly while also concerned.
"Those are some pretty big words," she observed light-heartedly, "What's so 'unthinkable', Damian? Who's making you do something you don't want to?"
Damian practically leapt into her arms when she sat down beside him, still grumbling that "it wasn't ethical". But Y/N had no idea what 'it' was, and only a minute later she was following him out into the corridor with an extremely confused expression glued to her face.
She found Tim leant against the wall next to her bedroom door, arms crossed and wearing a somewhat bemused grimace.
"What's he crying over?" she asked, "Something absurd, I gathered, but he didn't say what."
"Uhh, Thalia wants to have him for a week, but the lil sh-t doesn't wanna go," Tim explained, a tinge of mischief in his voice.
"I thought he adored Thalia!" Y/N exclaimed in pure disbelief, "Heck, even I adore her! And I'm just a superfan!"
Tim chuckled lightly, still grinning. At the exact same time, Duke appeared from the opposite direction Damian had gone. He too leaned against the wall and grimaced.
"He interrupted my daily Animal Crossing Island Tour just to fret about leaving you for a week," Duke sighed, slipping his hands into his pockets.

The authorities arrived within a few hours of your father contacting them, led by two detectives. Their excuse for the delay was the sudden traffic jam. You believed Being X somehow caused it but after thinking about it a bit more, the logic didn’t make sense. So you kept your observations to yourself, silently watching the police take photographs of the box and tulips before bagging them as evidence. The detectives questioned Caretaker Lee and your parents separately. You were last and the one who could shed more light into this bizarre situation.
Yes, you knew Yeo Jung-Hwa. You had been engaged to him until recently. You also knew the victim Hyeung Mun-Hee, or Choi Mi-Rae. She was the one who had an affair with your fiancé. Were you aware of the relationship? Well, not really. You had your suspicions, seeing them being so close at the office but Yeo Jung-Hwa was kind to all of the staff. It wasn’t until last Friday night’s gala night that their affair had been revealed to all of the guests in an outburst of anger, yourself included. Did you think Yeo Jung-Hwa was capable of violence? No. And you haven’t heard from him since the engagement got called off two days ago. The only reason you think he might be the culprit is because Choi Mi-Rae had bragged about the ring at work, saying he bought it for her. Provide a list of the people she worked with? Well, you had been in charge of her department at Yeo Jung-Hwa’s conglomerate. You couldn’t access any information now since you left the company, but you can provide some names of that department they can talk to.
The detectives thanked you and everyone else for their time before herding the officers through the front door, promising to stay in touch with your father on the investigation when necessary. Your father was not too pleased to hear that, grumbling on how he should just hire his own private investigator and be done with it before your mother gently chided him, folding her hands over his own.
“We don’t even know if Yeo Jung-Hwa is responsible yet, my dear.” She crooned. “As our daughter pointed out, we had speculated he had an affair, we did not know for certain until recently. That will not hold up in a court of law without physical evidence. All we can do is let them do their job and pray swift justice shall happen.” She then turned to the family’s housekeeper, smiling softly at the older woman. “Why don’t you take time off and visit your family until this nasty business is over, Caretaker Lee?”
“Madam!” Caretaker Lee said, fear and shock on her face. “Take time off, when this family could be in danger? I couldn’t! It would not be fair to you, to your husband, or to your daughter! What if -”
“I appreciate your concern, I truly do.” Your mother gently interrupted. “But this ordeal has clearly shaken you up even if you try to deny it.” She then walked over to Caretaker Lee, pulling her into a hug. “Please. For my peace of mind, take time off. Go travel. Visit your family. Anything and anywhere but here. I or my husband will keep in touch.”
Caretaker Lee proved to be as stubborn as your mother; finding excuses to stay and work, citing that she considers you, your parents and your little brother, family as well. What kind of a person would she be to abandon them at the first sight of danger? How can your safety be guaranteed if she wasn’t around? Unfortunately, in the end she could not argue with her employers and packed up two suitcases at their request, leaving the house in just under an hour but making Madam Park promise to stay in touch.
Around dinnertime, Park Jin-ho returned from the library and became understandably worried when your father explained what had happened earlier today at the table after he asked where Caretaker Lee was. He immediately volunteered to help your mother around the house or the grocery shopping, anything to help out so that she didn’t get too overwhelmed. Both of your parents appreciated your younger brother’s tenacity, but they wanted him to focus on passing his exams. Before Caretaker Lee was hired, your mother had been handling everything around the house by herself.
You agreed with them, saying that schoolwork is important and you would be more than happy to help around the house if your mother needed you. Of course, he could not talk about this incident to anyone since it is an ongoing investigation; if someone does try to approach him outside of school, say nothing and call you or your father immediately.
Your younger brother pouted for a moment before he reluctantly nodded. “All right. But you need to be careful too, Seo-yun!”
You waved off his concerns with a mischievous smile. “Yes, yes~. Now finish up your dessert so you can help with washing these dishes. Mother needs a small break from working hard today.” You turned to her, winking playfully. “Am I right or am I right~?”
“Hey, why do I have to help with the dishes?!”
“Now where did that enthusiasm to help around the house go?” You said teasingly. Humoring and comforting people was not something you were never really good at even after having four time loops under your belt. But…is it so bad to hope that this small camaraderie would ease your parents’ worries, at least for tonight?
“Oh, we are so blessed to have such good children~!” Your mother exclaimed with a teary smile, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand as she quickly collected the plates up. “Come now, come now~! If you two finish up quickly, there might be time to watch something together as a family! Ooh, maybe that new fashion show? It premiered last night on ParaFlower! Or a movie?”
Rolling your eyes good-naturedly, you stood up from the table and pulled your younger brother in the kitchen. Between the two of you it didn’t take very long to clean everything up, even as he complained about the difficulty of his classes and how it wasn’t fair to incorporate so much material into a two hour exam yet all of the teachers expected him to remember every single thing from this past semester. Ah, to be a carefree teenager again~.
In the end, the four of you watched one action-adventure movie and one episode of a rom-com drama before it was time for bed. The following morning commenced a period of self-isolation. Or would the proper term be house arrest because you were not allowed to go anywhere outside of the house, even to get the mail? Regardless, your parents were firm in their decision and you were left with little choice but to obey them as a filial daughter should.
In a week all you did was split the large stack of marriage candidates into Maybe and Would Like To Meet For An Interview piles, or finding more arts/crafts projects on TikTok that required minimal online ordering. Your father did your best to keep you company, though he did have to hole himself up in his office for an hour in the evening for emergency situations at the conglomerate that required his attention. Your mother too, but you did try to give them some alone time. And if you couldn’t sleep, you had your baking shows.
On the following Tuesday, the detectives stopped by the house that morning with more information on the investigation. After your mother’s home-brewed tea and snacks were placed on the coffee table in the living room, the two men shared what they discovered with you and your parents. The chemicals used to preserve the heart erased any possible DNA results to link it to the missing Choi Mi-Rae, but they were able to get a positive ID match from the ringed finger.
Her parents had filed a missing persons’ report after receiving no phone calls or text messages for two days. The father had gone to the apartment she had been renting under her alias Hyeung Mun-Hee but found it completely empty. No sign of anyone who had been living there for the fourteen months.
The reason that the Chois had their well-bred, shopaholic socialite daughter become an entirely different person to seduce Yeo Jung-Hwa was to merge their conglomerates together. The current business contract between them had brought in more than enough wealth and an amiable partnership. But it wasn’t enough; the Chois wanted more money, and their daughter wanted a good-looking husband. This scheme ended up backfiring on them of course, and you knew the rest.
Following the list of employees you had provided for them, they were able to speak to three members from the Accounting Department who corroborated with the story of the victim bragging about the ring in the office and one had attended the night that the affair between her and Yeo Jung-Hwa had been exposed to the upper echelons. The problem now is talking to the man himself; it seems like everything had gone to hell after his engagement to you had been called off, and he isn’t talking to anyone without a lawyer present.
“We were able to get a warrant to search his house but we need him to stay out long enough for our team to do a sweep and collect any evidence he might destroy.” The older detective folded his hands in his lap, looking you directly in the eye. “Miss Park, I know that you do not have any obligation to be anywhere near him after what he had done to you and your family, however we do need your help to pull this off before another judge throws out the motive just because he doesn’t want to lose his stock with the Yeo conglomerate.”
“Detective Lim!” His younger partner admonished, a stunned expression stretched across his flushed face.
“Being rich ain’t for sissies, Kang Byung-ho.” Detective Lim grunted. “And I have a feeling the little miss knows every skeleton in everyone’s closet, bein’ the icy boss lady of her ex-fiance’s conglomerate. Am I right or am I wrong, Park Seo-yun?”
“Detective, you dare to speak to my daughter like that in my own home?!” Your father snapped, standing up from the couch. “When you said you had information to share, I had hoped that you were able to catch the culprit and that we would be free of this matter entirely! Now you are asking my daughter to speak to the man who had belittled, demeaned, and cheated on her when he could very well be the murderer?! Putting her life at risk for a hunch?!”
“I’m afraid I am going to have to agree with my father on this one, Detective Lim.” You said calmly. “Your plan is extremely risky, and any evidence that you may find could be thrown out by the lawyers when they find out that you used me to get him out of the house. Not to mention almost everyone in high society is aware that my engagement to Yeo Jung-Hwa is officially over. What kind of setback do you think I would face if I were to be seen with him in public, when his own father clearly told him to stay away from me as per the annulment agreement?” You leaned back against the couch, arms folded under your chest. “It would end badly for both parties, and I don’t want my family name to get dragged through the mud because of your hunch.”
“Then what about a sting operation?” Detective Lim quipped back. “We’d still use a public space, but we’d limit the scope of witnesses and plant officers dressed as civvies who act as our eyes and ears offsite. Like a bookshop, a cafe, or some place that was significant to both you and Yeo Jung-Hwa when you were together.”
“There is one place I can think of that meant anything to him, and my answer is no. I am not going back to The Lotus Pavilion just so he can criticize how much food I put on my plate again.” You said. “If you are thinking of a cafe, there is an establishment on the outskirts of the city I have been wanting to try out. It’s got great reviews, and a long drive.”
“And I’m sensing a but in that sentence.” Detective Lim said with a bitter smile.
“It’s the owner.” You replied. “He’s highly protective of the place, and at one point he had been infamously difficult towards a culinary network when they wanted to use his establishment as the season finale backdrop for two of their highest-ranking television shows. When he finally said yes, the place’s population exploded. I don’t think he’s going to appreciate it as the center of a sting operation.” You sighed, pressing your pointer and index finger against your throbbing temple in an attempt to stifle the onslaught of an oncoming headache. “Look, I can do it, make the arrangements and stuff….just don’t be surprised if he gets pissed enough to try and file a lawsuit against your department, okay? Like I said, that cafe is his baby. He will not allow anything bad to happen to its reputation or his customers if he can help it.”
“What if we ask him first?” Detective Kang chimed in.
“You will either get the greenlight for this operation or you will need to figure out another location. Or come up with a new idea that will put my safety at risk.” You said. “I’m sorry gentlemen, this is the best I can do.”
Detective Lim grunted, standing up from the chair. “We’ll keep in touch.” Then he left without another word. His partner rolled his eyes exasperatedly before he turned to you and your family, bowing respectfully then following the older man towards the front gates.
Sure enough, without fail, you and your parents were contacted again by the detectives before the week was out. Detective Kang had been the one to reach out to the cafe owner instead of Detective Lim, politely inquiring about using his establishment for an ongoing investigation. Of course, the owner gave him grief over it until an hour ago. There will be police officers on standby and he will be there as well in case anything happens to his employees. No ifs, ands, or buts.
Now, will you be able to help them?
Your parents did not want you to go through with this whole scenario at all. They wanted you to stay at home and be safe until this investigation was over. But…it really won’t unless Yeo Jung-Hwa is ousted as a suspect. To do that, they needed to get in the house with the warrant and search for the evidence or lack thereof. This is where you come in. You thought for long and hard before you sighed heavily. “Very well.”
“Sweetie, you don’t have to go through with this!” Your mother exclaimed, her lovely face turning white with fear and shock as you pulled out your phone, punching in the passcode to unlock it. You glanced up at her, and smiled sadly.
“I know.” You said. “And I’m scared.” You scrolled through the menu of blocked numbers with your thumb. “Let’s just hope that this little arrangement will not backfire on us.” You found Yeo Jung-Hwa’s name at the bottom. You went to the settings and unblocked his number.
Dingdingdingdingding!
Text messages, missed phone calls, and voicemails came flooding in all at once. All from Yeo Jung-Hwa. The continuous vibrations from your phone made your hands tremble in fear as more notifications came through.
Call me please darling
Park Seo-yun, I can explain everything!
Five minutes. That’s all I need. CALL ME PLEASE.
Yet amidst the horror you felt with reading each message that was more unsettling than the last, your fingers had a mind of their own as they created a response that you had never thought would be possible even experiencing four time loops.
I want to see you too, but we must be discreet. What about the Cozy Nook and Garden Cafe on the outskirts of town on -----? 10AM? Will that work?
Yeo Jung-Hwa granted the housekeeper’s request to take some time off. Why wouldn’t he? She had scrubbed the townhouse from top to bottom, took out all of the garbage and made the arrangements for the groceries to be delivered once a week until she returned at the end of the month. It no longer looked like a hurricane had wrecked through here, and more respectable, orderly.
Like the disastrous Friday night had never happened. Like he hadn’t lost you.
Have you gotten his gift? The flowers, the box? You didn’t respond to his phone calls, text messages, or emails. He hoped you did, and saw the sincerity in his apology. He wanted to start things over with you, take back the annulment and his engagement much more seriously than just a business arrangement between his family and yours. But no one can convince Yeo Jeon to change his mind once he made a decision, not his wife and certainly not his only son.
His heir who had been working nonstop to salvage the conglomerate from sinking into the mud and declaring bankruptcy ever since the engagement had been annulled. His efforts paid off, but the fruits of his labor did not bring you back to him.
That has to be why you weren’t returning your phone calls, right? Because he had become unworthy of your eyes and you wanted him to work to earn your trust.
Yeo Jung-Hwa sighed, rubbing the end of the towel draped around his shoulders against his wet sandy-colored locks. He had taken a quick shower, shaved, and dressed in loungewear ready to resume working on his laptop when a notification on his phone dinged. Raising an eyebrow, he grabbed it off of the breakfast bar and unlocked it with his facial ID. Instead of another worried email from his secretary or the morning report on the conglomerate’s stocks, it was a text. From you.
Heart hammering against his chest and face burning, he tapped on the Message icon and quickly skimmed through the contents. Well, it wasn’t a confession that you had purposely avoided him because you wanted him to earn your trust again or given him a good reason why you didn’t return his phone calls, but you did want to see him. You wanted to go out on a date with him even when he really, really wanted you to come here, to his home and to his side.
“Yes.” He whispered fervently. “Yes, yes, yes!”
This is it. This is the gods telling him that he still had a chance to redeem himself. To win you over completely and have things go back to the way they were before Choi Mi-Rae ever came into your lives. Still…it wouldn't hurt to carry a little insurance with him on this date so that you wouldn’t leave him again, right?

It was almost 2 minutes before I realized I was still dragging the crown prince behind me. I quickly dropped his hand and looked at him, not able to hide the embarrassment on my face. Listen- I’m committed to the bit. I WILL be the crazy jealous fiancé. But… I’m still human ok. I just dragged a full grown man down several halls and a flight of stairs while I spaced out thinking about how I’m gonna buy my cat premium wet food once I get back home to her.
It’s fine, I’m not flustered at spacing out about my cat, my characters just flustered because she’s been holding the hand of the man she’s obsessed with, that’s all!
“Well…. Did you still want to dine and take that walk?”
I expected him to scold me for my mistreatment of Cressida, grow irritated from me dragging him along like this. Instead, he chuckles and threads his arm in mine, and begins escorting me down the hall.
“Absolutely, have you dined outside by the roses yet? There’s this lovely pavilion that I am eager to hear your thoughts on.”
And that’s how I found myself under an impressive array of roses, all trained up and around a cozy dining area, creating a canopy of green and pink over an intimate tea table. The food was equally impressive, I had to keep reminding myself that the other me is used to this lavish lifestyle, to not gawk at the fancy tiny sandwiches and deserts.
“Well? Is everything to your liking? ”
I’m going off script here, how am I supposed to know how the villainess would react to a romantic scene like this?? If my “evil crazy” side isn’t supposed to be directed at him, and she’s usually kinda distant and unsure around him…. That means I should probably respond pretty curtly, polite, yet not really engaging. But…. I’ve already messed that up…. I guess I can be more genuine when it’s the two of us like this. He can think that this version of me is the facade, that I’m pretending to be pleasant, and then will start to see what a jerk “I” truly am when Cressida’s around. Besides…. I almost feel bad for the villainess. She really just seems like she was shy. Who knows- maybe, if given the opportunity, she really would have opened up more. It’s clear she loved the prince, and just didn’t know how to show it. So, with that thought, I made up my mind.
“It’s breathtaking! Roses are my favorite flower, and I’ve never seen so many kinds in bloom at once…. Plus the food and company leave little to be desired.”
There you go- slip in some subtle flirting! I’m not quite sure what time period this is supposed to be, but I get the impression flirting as bit more high class here, and I think I can have some fun with that.
“I’m glad, to be honest I was a bit flustered asking you to dine with me… you caught me quite off guard today, but in a good way.” He reaches his hand across the table and places it on my own, “I’d like to do this more often, you and I. I feel like the confines of our current arrangement have left us practically strangers, despite being engaged for several months already. I’m enjoying just being companionable with you, even if it’s just existing comfortably in the same room.”
Ohhhh, I know I’m the villain in this story but I can’t help but root for him- what a sweetheart! It’s so obvious he’s been lonely, I can’t wait for him and Cressida to fall in love and have a couple of kids that they’ll spoil rotten. And in the meantime…. Maybe I do have a bit of evil in me, because I’m going to selfishly enjoy this handsome man treating me to lunches under roses and reading in cozy libraries while I can.
“I know exactly how you feel your highness. Now, you mentioned a walk?”
We spent the afternoon laughing and chatting, and it felt nice to chat without worrying too much about my role. He asked me about that book I picked out earlier, and listened attentively as I caught him up with where I’m at in the plot. In turn, I asked about what papers he’s been signing, documents he’s been drafting, etc.
The only thing I had to do was send glares to any young ladies we passed, settling my hand on his arm possessively, and I saw their eyes widen and faces disappear behind fans as they whisper to one another. I can picture this illustrated in a manhwa- the nasty princess sinking her claws into the gullible prince… hopefully all these ladies will start gossiping and we can really cement this evil persona of mine now that Cressida’s here.
When we returned to our separate apartments, I explored my rooms a bit until servants came to get me ready for dinner, and I slipped back into the frigid bitch persona. The servant girls dressed me in a slightly stuffy gown, but I had to admit, I looked gorgeous. I sat stiff and straight as they did my hair, forcing myself to be the very picture of cold indifference. I then dismissively thanked them for their help, then sat there awkwardly as they stared at me like I was crazy.
Ohhhh shit…. The original story hadn’t prepared me for this. My character was a villain, yes, but a side character for the most part! How was she supposed to act towards her servants? I went over what I knew- the novel showed the villainess alone quite often, usually obsessing over Eric and plotting/stalking. It showed her with Eric, and how distant and awkward their relationship was when together. And then of course the numerous scenes with Cressida where the Villainess did all sorts of heinous things to the sweet girl. But… it never depicted her with servants, or even any friends or other nobles. Just… Eric and Cressida. Was other me not actually a bitch all the time? Am I being unnecessarily rude right now? Oh god I’m such an idiot.
The story is told through Cressida’s point of view- of course there’s more depth to my own character than I initially thought! The Villianess must be a misunderstood introvert! Unsure of how to act around her crush, she’s fiercely insecure and jealous of this new girl who doesn’t struggle the same way she does. When she notices the prince slipping from her grasp, she acts out against Cressida because she can’t bear to lose Eric!
As someone’s who’s worked minimum wage jobs and struggled with social anxiety most of my life, I try to be nice to the people just working to survive, but here I am acting like these poor women are the dirt beneath my shoe…. Ok. Um. Well they’re still standing there in shock, I can fix this….
“You really did a lovely job… my hair has never looked so gorgeous, you’re truly talented! And I think the prince will be very pleased with this choice of ribbon!”
There- I was nicer, and I brought it back to Eric, so I’m still the lovesick fiancé whose entire world is waiting for her in the dining room. I frowned as the servants scuttled out of the room with hurried excuses, all of them looking like they were about to faint. Damn it… I can’t believe I misread the relationship between us. I probably just ruined their night by being uncharacteristically rude. I’ve gotta learn their names next time…. Maybe ask them to help me eat some fancy pastries as an apology…?
I didn’t know it, but while I was lamenting how wrong I was about the Villainess’ character, the servants were all gossiping to the others about what had just transpired.
“You’re telling me she said THANK YOU!?”
“Yes!!! And then you should have seen how nervous she got! She just rambled, blurting out such a sweet compliment, and she even tied it back to the prince!”
“I had no idea how precious she was… I can’t believe I never realized she’s just shy! In a new place, all alone aside from her new fiancé…. Who I gather she’s got a bit of a crush on! Poor dear.”
“Ohh our sweet girl, I’m sure it must be hard bonding with the prince, when all you do is sit yards apart and hardly speak …”
“Well I may have some news about that… and it’s no wonder she was a bit flustered today, because I saw the two of them in the gardens today! They were both nothing but smiles- absolutely smitten with one another!”
“Such a lovely girl, and we never knew it all this time!”
Apparently, I had it backwards. The real villainess truly was a 2D, basic character. She was insecure and possessive over the prince, bullying Cressida half to remind her who Eric belonged to, half for the fun of it. But she didn’t let on to anyone about the true depth of her love for him. She didn’t gossip to her handmaid, didn’t ask the servants which dress he would like better. Simply acted as if they did not exist, hardly saying a word to them.
While I thought my blunt “thank you” was colder than they were used to, and then tried to smooth things over…. It was more words than they’d heard from me in the whole time I’d lived in the palace. They lapped it up and declared me their own shy little dove after that.
When I arrived to dinner, I realized why daily dinners weren’t exactly a bonding activity for the villainess and Eric. The table was massive, and only held two chairs, one at either end. It felt so…. Cold?
Eric had beat me there, and quickly stood up from his seat, waiting until I sat and a servant pushed in my chair to retake his own seat. He smiled at me and said,
“Good evening, princess.”
He had to project his voice slightly. It wasn’t like he was shouting or being loud, it was just the manner of speaking you use when talking to an elderly relative, clearer, and enunciating better so they could hear you.
I replied back, projecting my voice similarly, and found the conversation was, in fact, more awkward than it had been earlier. We ate our food mostly in silence, occasionally one of us would say something and the other would stop moving their utensils on their plate, listening closer as they ask,
“What’s that?”
By the time dinner was over and we each went to bed, I felt drained. I could have just been louder I suppose- but it’s so hard to keep up a conversation like that. I know we get along- we had chatted all afternoon after all. But some part of me realized it’s probably good to keep a bit of distance between us, even if I’ve rewritten things to be a bit chummier between the two of us. Cressida needs to swoop in and steal him from me… and my job is still to leave that room for her to do so.
It’s hard trying to be someone else, yet also making sure you lead the plot in the right direction- it’s exhausting! I feel like both director and actress!
It’s with this in mind that I launch myself into the softest bed I’d ever felt, and passed out. My first day as princess consort, the Yandere fiancé, complete.
While I was getting acquainted with my feather bed, Eric was speaking with the head waitstaff.
“Yes, tomorrow, would you mind adjusting the seating situation? I’d like for the princess consort and I to be closer together from now on. Yes, and ask my assistant to arrange my schedules like so, I’ve detailed it here. Thank you.”
At the same time, Cressida was recounting her run in with the prince and I to her handmaiden as she finishing unpacking and settling into her family’s guest apartments. Which, unbeknownst to me… was right across the hall.
Aaaa! You survived your first day! And look at you- doing suuuuch a good job staying true to character. Nothing could go wrong… right?
