January 15th, 1995
It was now halfway through the month of January, meaning it was one day closer to the second task then it would be closer to the end of the tournament. Your vision has been showing you events of the third task, fitting as everything big that happens at Hogwarts happen right at the end of the school year.
Everyone has recovered from the Yule Ball, expect you and George's friendship. The two of you haven't spoken since that night. You decided that maybe you guys needed some space, get your feeling in check.
George's presence was quickly replace with Cedric's. He sits with you at breakfast now, take trips to the library with you, chat with you as you sit in your favorite book nook in the common room, even wait for you after classes.
"You're dating." Beth stated as you sit with her and Beau in the Three Broomsticks.
"We're not." you deadpan.
"Well the whole of Hogwarts seems to think you are." Beau added.
"Yeah, I'm sorry weren't you suppose to be with Cedric instead of us?" Beth pointed out.
"No…" you lied.
"Babe you gotta stop running from your feelings." Beth said.
"I'm not running I'm just…"
Your eyes went to Ludo Bagman talking to Harry about something at the bar. You can see Bagman start getting nervous and eyeing something as he tries to quickly end the conversation with Harry. Following the line of sight, you spot the twins. There is a part of you that finds it funny the length Ludo goes to to avoid them.
George turns his head and your eyes met. You're smiling softly before you could stop yourself. He didn't reciprocate any tells, just pretended he didn't see you before turning back to Fred.
"You were saying?" Beau said.
You sigh in frustration, "I can't even remember how we got to this point."
"Look you're both idiots and instead of admitting your feelings for George, you instead on a date with the hottest guy in school right now." Beth recalls.
From outside perspective it does look like that doesn't?
"That's not— things with Cedric are-"
"Complicated, we know!" Beau and Beth say at the same time.
The conversation stopped when something caught your eye. It was Rita Skeeter in bright yellow robes. She stood out against the brown filter of the Three Broomsticks. She was accompanied by her photographer and what Harry had told you was her Quick-Quotes Quill
Rita started to make her way around the tavern, looking for a story it seems. She made a bee-line for Harry once she laid eyes on him.
"Trying to ruin someone else's life?" said Harry loudly.
He must have read the article about Hagrid. Though you thought it was common knowledge about Hagrid being part giant, why else would he be so large?
"Harry!" Rita beams, "How lovely! Why don't you come and join-"
"I rather fight another dragon than come anywhere near you." Harry states.
The entire pub had gone quiet. Nobody dare to move, not even Madam Rosmerta, who was currently over filling a flagon.
"Oh come on, Harry. How about you tell me all about the Hagrid you know. Would you say that he's like a substitute father."
"Okay." you said loudly getting up. You stood in front of Rita's view of Harry. "That's a line you don't get to cross anymore."
Harry can take a lot, you know he can, but you've seen how he shuts down whenever someone talks about his parents or his lack of.
Rita gave a challenging smile, "Y/N Greengrass, aren't you a story. Tell me how is everything going with that dashing, Cedric Diggory, hmm?"
"Like I would ever tell you anything." you stated.
"Oh don't you worry your pretty little head, I have my ways of finding what I want."
The sentence feels threatening. You and Rita are glaring at each other, the pub is uneasy now. Hermione intervenes.
"Come on let just go." she tugged on your arm, "C'mon Harry — Ron…"
Everyone stared at the four of you as you left.
"She'll be after you next, Greenie." said Ron in a worried voice.
"Well I would certainly like to see her try." you state.
"W-what if she finds out about your abilities or your real parentage?" there was a nervous tone to his voice. He was started to remind you of George. Well they are brother's after all.
"I appreciate the concern, Ron, but I can handle Rita." you reassure.
January 25th, 1995
A week later, you are back in Professor Trelawney's classroom for the first time since the start of the second term. Daphne is still the only person to know about your vision about Cedric and the rest of the tournament.
"How is your assignment going, dear?" Trelawney asked.
"The dream journal? Um…not well really. I keep having the same nightmare…drowning." you said. Trelawney began to mutter to herself, the way she always does. "Does that mean something?"
Trelawney examine you, "You have something troubling you, it's weighing you down. Another prophecy perhaps or maybe just a simple prediction…"
The Black Lake
Drowning
A maze
A graveyard
Red and green
Your mind is racing.
"Whatever it is my dear, you can't change the future. Countless attempts have been made, but the future is in fact…set in stone." Trelawney said.
You leave the Divination classroom, pondering what Trelawney said. During your first year, Dumbledore told you the same thing. The future was set in stone, no matter how hard you tried to change it. The outcome will eventually be the same. Knowing the outcome of this tournament terrified you immensely. You couldn't let Cedric died.
Your mind flying off the rail, you sit at the bottom of the spiral staircase. Not wanting to go back to the common room just yet, you were certainly going to be questioned by Beth and Beau. They were getting more relentless and you waking up gasping almost every night was not helping.
You pull the Map from your bag. Remus gifted it back to you the end of last year and it's been your little secret since.
You weren't looking for anything specific really. Harry's name appear on the fifth floor near the prefects' bathroom. He finally seemed to take Cedric's advice. Peeves, who you were most worried about running into, was bouncing about the trophy room.
Scanning the Map some more you catch something else moving about. Someone flitting around a room near you —- Snape's Office. Only the person wasn't label Severus Snape, but rather, Bartemius Crouch.
You furrow your brows as you watch the footstep move. According to Percy, Mr. Crouch was gravely ill to even work or make appearances, so what was he doing here? Let alone in Snape's office without him. More importantly, what was he looking for?
The logical thing was to go to Dumbledore or maybe even McGonagall, but then you would have to explain the Map. So best to go find out yourself. Getting up from the steps, you set off to Snape's office.
Too busy focusing on Barty's name, you didn't notice the figure in front of you. The sound of your name being spoken made you look up.
"George…" You haven't realize how much you missed him, "George I-"
"Shouldn't you be with Cedric somewhere?" It came out sharp.
"Don't be a dick." You said back with the same sharpness, "Is that why you've been ignoring me? Because of Cedric?"
"I already told you why…"
"You said you were mad at yourself, but that's very vague, George!" you exclaim.
A silence fell between the two of you. It was broken occasionally by the crackle of fire in the lanterns on the walls.
"What did you see on Halloween night?" George asked calmly.
You huff, "Stop changing the conversation to avoid talking about your feelings."
George let out a surprise laugh, "Oh well that's rich coming from you." You gaped at him. "Is that why you said yes so quickly to Cedric?"
"No, it's complicated."
"Because of the vision you had."
"No."
George exhales through his nose, "Lying isn't your strong suite."
You couldn't do this right now. You turned on your heel, completely forgetting about your mission before hand. You came to a halt when Filch appeared around the corner you were about to round, a nasty grin playing on his crooked mouth.
"Well, well, well." he said, grinning wide, "Going for strolls after curfew, are we?"
"I was coming from Professor Trelawney's office. I do private lessons with her." you reason quickly.
Filch scoffed, "Yeah. I've heard that one so many times before, caught you just in time. Now where's the other one of you?" He was talking to George, who goes to speak when Filch interrupts him. "No matter, I'll find him after escorting the two of you to detention."
The walk to Filch's office was done in silence with glances pass between you and George from the corner of your eyes. You've been to Filch's office once before in your first year to bail the twins out. George, of course, has been in Filch's office numerous of times.
Following Filch inside, you looked around the windowless room, which was only lit by a single lantern. There were filing cabinet around the wall which contain details of all the detentions that Filch has given student throughout the years. You wonder if you would find your father and his friends in there.
"Sit." demanded Filch as he began shuffling around a drawer for parchment.
You and George sit down on the chairs that were station right by Filch's desk. Filch mutters something about forms before pulling out a large roll of parchment from the drawer.
"Names…Fred…" Filch looked up at George, "Wait which one are you?"
"Awe come on Filch, as many times me and my brother have been in here, you still can't tell us apart?" George quipped. Filch was not in the mood for jokes. "George."
"George Weasley and…" Filch looked up at you with narrowed eyes, "Your name?" You tell him your name and he scribbles it down.
The ink pot suddenly spills over the parchment and Filch curse out loudly. George lets out a small breathy laugh. You turn to see his wand poking out from his folded arms. He quickly hides it when Filch stands up.
"I have to go bring another patch….that was my last form. You two better be here when I return." With a warning glare, Filch walked out of his office, closing the door behind him and locking it.
"He didn't even take our wands, we can easily just open the door." you state.
"If we escape, he'll make it double detention." said George as a matter of fact, "Trust me, I should know."
As the minutes passed, no words were exchange between you. The silence was at last broken by George as he let out a little sigh.
"I'm sorry." he whispered.
His voice was barely audible, but of course thanks to Remus' werewolf gene, you hear it just fine. Was that how genes worked?
You turn to look at George, who was sitting to your right, though he was avoiding your eyes.
"You — you don't have to say anything," he went on, "but…it's just that…you were my friend, I didn't want to lose you to someone else." George didn't dare to look at you, afraid of losing of all his sense.
"Were?" your voice wobbles. It made George whip his head so hard, he was surprise he didn't give himself whiplash.
"What, no, no. Sorry, I misspoke, love." He apologized. "I'm sorry for being childish about this whole thing. This has all been stupid and — why are you smiling like that?"
You chuckled, catching George by surprise, "Beth is so right, we are idiots."
George laughed with you. Merlin he missed your laughter. The sound of the door unlocking ruined the mood. You stopped laughing and George sat forward in his chair again.
Filch gave you both suspicious look as he return to his desk with new forms in his arms. The parchment thumped down on the desk. Filch started the whole process over again.
"Names…Y/n Greengrass and George Weasley…crime —"
"Mr. Filch! Ah good, you're here," said Professor McGonagall as she entered the office, "Peeves has thrown water balloons in the kitchens. Seems to be his thing this year. Please look into it."
"Yes, ma'am." Filch consented, though it seem he didn't want to.
McGonagall began to leave, but the sight of you and George sitting along the wall made her pause.
"Miss Greengrass? What are you here for?" she asked, frowning.
George tossed his hands up, offended.
"A misunderstanding, Professor —" you began to explain, but Filch broke you off.
"They were out in the corridors after curfew!" Filch shot up to his feet, pointing fingers at the two of you.
"Mr. Filch, Miss Greengrass has night lesson with Professor Trelawney almost every week." McGonagall huffed angrily.
"Oh.." Filch's face fell, avoiding looking at you.
"You're not going to question why I'm here, Professor?" George asked. McGonagall gave him a deadpan look.
"George was just walking me back to my common room." you protested.
Professor McGonagall sighs, "Fine. Both of you please return to your respective common rooms. Don't take any detours, Mr. Weasley."
"Yes. Thank you, Professor," said George politely, getting up to depart alongside you.
"Night!" you said, mostly to McGonagall, leaving with George.
When you gotten far enough from the office, you both burst into laughter.
"Did you see Filch's face? Thank Merlin for McGonagall." George laughed.
"Yeah, but I think her not even giving a second thought as to why you were in detention was better." you smiled.
You had reach the Grand Staircase and paused there. You two just stood in silence for a minute or two before George spoke.
"You're still not off the hook, by the way. Your vision…I'm sure it's not bad whatever it is." George said.
A startling loud wailing noise came from somewhere above you. Save by the wailing.
"We should go before Filch tries to give us detention again," you said.
You left George standing there in the archway between the dungeons and Grand staircase.
February 23rd, 1995
It was well into February and the weather outside was still frigid. Why did they have a task that was water base in the freezing cold of winter? You'll never know.
You had a moment to catch up with Harry at the beginning of the month where he told you some…interesting things.
"I took Cedric's advice and I got the egg to work." Harry told you, Hermione, and Ron in an empty classroom one afternoon.
"You told me you figure it out weeks ago!" Hermione exclaimed.
"I mean…I kind of did." Harry admitted. Hermione huffed. "But that's not why we are here. When I was going back to the common room and…"
He tells you all that happen to him that night. Falling through the trick step, dropping the egg, Filch, Snape, and Moody.
It was the same night you saw Barty Crouch's name on the Map rummaging through Snape's office.
"Snape said Moody's searched his office as well?" Ron questioned. "Do you reckon Moody's here to keep an eye on Snape as well Karkaroff?"
"Snape and Karkaroff were both Death Eaters." you state.
"Maybe…Moody thinks Snape put your name in the Goblet of Fire!" Ron exclaimed.
"I thought we were past accusing Snape of things." you reminded.
The conversation goes on. You hadn't brought up the fact that it was Barty Crouch being the one breaking into Snape's office that night. You sent a letter to your father about it. Even though you knew he was just going to tell you to go to Dumbledore.
It was dinner time at Hogwarts and the second task was tomorrow morning at ten O'clock. Your fellow Hufflepuffs were bombarding Cedric with questions about the second task. Though he couldn't answer them very well.
"Cedric you ready for tomorrow?" someone a couple of seat away asked.
"Oh yeah what is it?" another asked.
Cedric smiled that polite smile when he didn't know how else to respond, "Um…not much I can tell you.
You didn't have much of an appetite. You looked through the gaps of people to the next table over — Gryffindor.
Harry wasn't at the table, nor was Hermione or Ron. This made you worried, are they getting into some kind of trouble that you weren't alerted too?
A tap on your arm pulls you out of thought.
Cedric leans closer to you, "Hey, are you alright? You've barely eaten."
"I'm fine." you say.
"You know, if you are worried about the task tomorrow. I'll try to keep an eye on Harry down there." Cedric says.
You gave him a soft smile, "Thank you, Cedric. Really, I appreciate it. Harry he's…I don't mess around when it comes to him."
"He's lucky to have someone like you." Cedric responds. "So lets keep it that way." he takes a slice of sponge cake and puts it on your plate. "Your favorite right?"
"Yes, but how did you-"
"Elizabeth told me." Cedric says.
You poke at the sponge cake with a fork, just looking at the dessert is making you nauseous.
"Cedric…" the brown hair boy looks at you again, "I'm sorry…I can't–" you say for yourself.
Cedric gives a confuse look as he watches you get up from the table and walk out. You find out from Nearly Headless Nick that the trio was in the library trying to help Harry. You scanned the rows of book in the library until you found them.
"There's a way of doing it!" Hermione's voice coming from the next row over, "There just has to be."
"There you guys are. You miss dinner." you tell them.
Ron looked horrified, "What? Have we really been in here for that long?"
Harry looked exhausted and stress, ready to give up. Hermione was pacing as she skim read through the book she was holding.
"What are you guys looking for?" you asked.
"Trying to figure out how I'm going to breathe underwater for an hour." Harry responded.
Your eyes widen, "Harry, earlier this month you said you had it figure out!"
Harry sat up, "I said I had the egg worked out not the breathing underwater part."
Hermione let out a groan as she slammed the book in her hands closed, "This is useless, who would want to make their nose hairs grow into ringlets?"
"Oh I would," said Fred's voice from behind you, "Be a great conversation stater."
You turn with a curious look. Fred Weasley wouldn't be caught dead in the library.
"What are you two doing here?" Ron said, speaking your mind.
"Looking for you and Hermione," said George, "McGonagall wants to see you."
"Why?" Hermione asked, surprised.
"Dunno, but she was a bit sad though." said Fred.
"We were tasked to bring you to her." said George.
Ron and Hermione turned to look at Harry, who had a very grim look on his face. Were Ron and Hermione going to get in trouble because of how much they were helping him?
"Go, I got him." you assured the two. Ron nods.
"We'll meet you back in the common room," said Hermione to Harry, "Bring as many books as you can, okay?"
Harry nods in responds and watch as his best friends walk out with the twins. You stopped George before he gotten to far.
"George," you grabbed his wrist. Your friendship was still slowly repairing itself since the night in Filch's office. It was probably never going to be the way it was before, but you rather have whatever this was now than not have anything at all. "I- you were right, I have been holding things in, I'm sorry. I thought it was best to try and prevent things on my own, but now…I don't think I can stop what's going to happen."
George's eyes soften as he see the frighten look in your eyes, "Love-"
You cut him off, "Astronomy tower…ten o'clock? " He doesn't say anything, all he does is nods. George leaves to follow his brothers and Hermione. You turn back to Harry. "Everything's gonna be okay." you tell him or maybe you said it for yourself.
Eight o'clock hit and Madam Pince was extinguishing all the lamps, signaling for you and Harry to leave. You piled books into the boys arms for him to take back to the Gryffindor common room like Hermione asked.
When you get back to the Hufflepuff common room, Adeline (Head Girl) stops you on your way to the girl dormitories.
"There you are, Professor Sprout is looking for you." she said.
"What why?" you asked.
Adeline shrugs, "Don't know, she said it was urgent though."
You looked at the grandfather clock. There was an hole hour to spare, you can find out what Professor Sprout need then sneak to the Astronomy tower to talk with George.
"Madam Sprout, I found her." Adeline said as she opened the door. Professor Sprout looked relived when she saw you.
"There you are, Miss Greengrass. I am to take you to the headmaster's office straight away." she said, "Miss Chambers, thank you."
"Professor, what is this about?" you asked once Adeline left.
"Everything will be explained to you once we get to the headmaster's office." Sprout said motioning you to follow.
You arrive with Professor Sprout at Dumbledore's office. Ascending the Gargoyle staircase and entering the main office space. You didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't a party of people. Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape, Moody, Madam Maxine, Karkaroff, Ludo Bagman, Percy (in place of Mr. Crouch), and lastly Dumbledore himself all stood in the room.
"Ah, Miss. Greengrass. Welcome." Dumbledore address you before looking at Professor Sprout, "Thank you, Pomona. You may go." Sprout nods and gives you a weary smile before exiting the office. "You may be wondering why you were called upon. Tomorrow task, the campion are required to receive something special of theirs. In this case, a someone." Dumbledore continue to explain.
Your stomach drops, surely he is joking right? Putting four students at the bottom of the lake.
"Now, Miss Greengrass don't be afraid, you will be perfectly safe, I assure you." Dumbledore says, noticing your panic expression. "Shall your champion fails to save you after the hour is up, the merpeople are task to bring you back to the surface where we will collect you."
You don't see how that is suppose to calm you. Wait was this what McGonagall wanted with Ron and Hermione. Were they also going to be place at the bottom of the lake to be recused?
"Don't worry, it'll be like a long nap." Bagman said as he took his wand out.
You hadn't realized he move. Wait they can't take you now, you've got to meet George. What is he going to think when you don't show up?
You go to object, "Wait-" but it was too late. Your body starts to feel wobbly.
"Don't fight it, pup." a voice whisper behind you — Moody. He caught you went you finally gave in.
George reaches the top of the Astronomy tower. The class ended ten minutes ago and he made sure the professor retired to her office for the night before making his way up. A minute pass the time you said to meet, he didn't think anything of it. Then five, ten, and now twenty minutes have gone by and you still haven't shown.
It wasn't like you to be late. He was starting to get worried, maybe you got caught by Filch (he wished he had the Marauder's Map right now) or maybe you changed your mind. It was an hour of waiting for you before George call it.
February 24th, 1995
Harry Potter woke up to someone poking him.
"Harry…Harry!"
"Harry Potter must wake up, sir!"
"Stop poking me —" Harry mumble out.
"Dobby must poke Harry Potter, sir, he must wake up!"
The mention of Dobby's name made Harry open his eyes and jump up. He was in the library, he had forgotten that he went back. Must have fallen asleep.
"Harry, we've been looking all over for you." It was Neville. Weird, how did Neville and Dobby cross path.
"The second task is about to start!" Dobby squeaked.
Harry looked down at his watch, he had twenty minutes to get to the lake, but to do what? He hadn't found out how to breathe underwater. He wasn't going to be able to do the challenge. He's going to have to forfeit.
"It doesn't matter, guys. It's too late –"
"Harry Potter will do the task!" Dobby said, hurriedly, "Dobby knew Harry needed help. He had to find the right book! So Dobby did it for him."
"It's mine, the book you needed. Professor Moody gave it to me beginning of last term." Neville explained.
"Dobby saw the boy reading it. Dobby explained that Harry Potter needs it to save his Wheezy."
This was a lot of information for someone that just woke up a two minutes ago.
"Save my what?"
"No time to explain, you've only got fifteen minutes before the task starts now." Neville pulls out a green slimy-jelly like ball and placed it into Harry's hand, "Eat this right before you go into the lake."
"Gillyweed, sir!"
Harry stared at the strange ball in his hand, "This will make me breathe underwater? Are you sure?"
Dobby and Neville nod their heads. That was all the confirmation Harry needed. He jumped to his feet, pulling off the cloak and gathering his things before making a break towards the lake.
The entrance hall had some last minute stragglers. Harry zipped through them as he leapt down the stone steps and out into the chilly February air.
"Hey Harry," someone grabbed him as he was running causing him to come to a hard halt. It was one of the Weasley twins. The other twin was beside holding their makeshift gambling box.
"Sorry, but I really have to-"
"It's real quick. Have you've seen Y/N?" George asked.
Harry was a bit taken back by this, "Y/N? Not since last night when we parted ways at the library…why?"
"No one has seen her since last night." George replied.
'Weird' Harry thought, "Maybe she's already in the stands…look I gotta go, but she can handle herself. She'll turn up."
Harry tore off again. He hoped that you were alright and come to think of it…where were Hermione and Ron? Surely, they would have come with Neville and Dobby to find him, right?
Back up the lawn, George watched Harry run off towards the other side of the lake where the judges table was.
"Any luck?" Daphne's voice said from behind.
"None." George tells her.
Daphne was holding hands with Astoria, who had a very sad expression on her face.
"How does one just disappear without anyone noticing?" Ryan, who arrived with just moments ago with Beth asked.
"Well Sirius Black was getting in and out of the castle without notice, so obviously not that hard." Daphne snapped.
The booming voice of Dumbledore could be heard, along with the cheers of students ready for the task to begin.
"Welcome to the second task! Last night something was stolen from each of our champions. A treasure of sort. These four treasures, one for each champion, now lie at the bottom of the Black Lake. In order to win, each Champion need only find their treasure and return to the surface…"
Ludo Bagman spaced the champions along the bank, Harry on the very end next to Krum. Man, he really hopes Neville and Dobby are right about this. Harry took a glance over at the other side of the lake where the rest of the students were sitting.
Harry still wondered about Ron and Hermione. If they had come back to the common room, they would have saw that Harry wasn't waiting for them or that he wasn't upstairs in bed. They would have looked for him, so why didn't they.
"Harry Potter needs it to save his Wheezy"
That what Dobby said to him, but–
Oh.
Oh
Wheezy…weasel…weasley
Surely Ron wasn't the treasure that needed to retrieve. Hermione was also his best friend and what about you. George said you were missing also. All three meant something to Harry.
He didn't have much time to think as Moody hit him upside the head.
"Potter, gillyweed now!" he hissed, but he had his back turn to the side so it didn't look like he was actually talking to him.
Harry stuffs the gillyweed in his mouth and tries to not throw it up as he chews it. It was cold and slimy, but also rubbery, so it was hard to chew.
"You may begin at the sound of the canon." Dumbledore said.
The sound of the canon sends everyone cheering. Krum, Cedric, and Fleur all dive in perfectly in sync. Harry, still chewing on the last of the gillyweed, was pushed in by Moody.
He thrash around as he felt himself being to change. There was a piercing pain on both side of his neck. When he placed his hands around his throat, he felt two large slits…gills. Quickly observing the rest of his body, he saw that his hands and feet were webbed.
Harry started to swim down till he came upon a giant field of kelp. He paused for a moment, the soft sound of the merpeople singing was coming from beyond the field. Harry press on but didn't get very far as something took hold of his ankle.
Twisting his body to see what it was, he saw a grindylow. The small horned water demon that he learned about from Lupin.
Back up at the surface, your friends wait with baited breathes. You weren't in the stands at all like they hoped you be.
You've 'disappear' before, there were secret rooms in Hogwarts that you discovered and made your own. George hoped you been in one, it was his last hope before the worry really settled.
"The Beauxbatons champion, Miss Delacour has unfortunately been forced to retire, so she will no further be taken part in this task." Dumbledore said.
Students from Beauxbatons sounded with upset groans. A comment from one girl caught his attention.
"Poor Gabrielle, what will happen to her?" she said with her French accent.
"They wouldn't keep her down there. They just wouldn't, Madam wouldn't be so cruel." another said.
What are they talking about? Who was Gabrielle?
"Fleur must be terrified." said the other.
Curiosity got the best of George, "I'm so sorry, but what are you ladies talking about?"
The girls turned their attention to the ginger, they both giggled and blush at the attention.
"They took poor Gabrielle last night. Fleur couldn't sleep."
"There's a person for each. That's the treasure they are task to find."
A person for each? It dawned on George and he felt his stomach hollow out. He turned back to the Lake. Did they take you for the task? For Harry to save you? No…Ron and Hermione were also nowhere to be found. Out of the three, it would most likely be Ron. Hermione has been seen often with Krum at the library. Which leave you for Cedric. Cedric has been basically his replacement by your side these pass couple of months.
What happens if you don't get rescued when the time is up?
Harry kicked out hard. His foot connected with a horned skull, looking back, he saw the dazed grindylow floating away. He watched as other grindylows shook their fist at him before sinking back into the kelp.
He swam on and the merpeople's singing started to get louder.
"An hour long, you'll have to look to recover what we took…"
The landscape around him started to change. Rock formations covered in algae resemble that of a broken castle. Kind of like what Muggle would see if they ever got too close to Hogwarts. Hermione showed him the picture that was feature in 'Hogwarts: A History'.
The merpeople had grayish skin and long, wild, green hair. Nothing like how it was depicted in the prefect's bathroom or muggle media. They would come out of their rock houses to look at Harry as he swam past.
He was now at the center of the kingdom, where the singing was loudest. Tied to a giant statue of a merperson was you, Ron, Hermione, and a little girl that resemble Fleur. Everyone looked to be in a deep sleep with their head lolling to the sides and bubbles coming from the mouth.
Harry swam up to Ron, who was floating between you and Hermione. Harry expected the merpeople to charge at him, but they instead just kept their distance and watched. He dived down to where Ron's feet were and began to untie the kelp that was around his ankle. Whoever tied this knot was not messing around. Harry looked around for anything that he could use to cut Ron free. He settle for a jagged rock and began to hack away at the kelp.
When Ron was free, Harry paused for a moment, keeping ahold of Ron's foot so that he didn't float away. There was no sign of the others champions. He looked back at you. Do they really expect for him to just save Ron?
Harry raised the jagged rock and began to hack at your bindings too. At once, several pairs of gray hands seized him.
"Take your own hostage!" one of the merpeople said.
"but she's my friend too!" Harry tried to say, but that came out was bubbles.
Harry struggled out of the merpeople's grip. He didn't like this. Where were the other champions?
His question was answer when the merpeople around him pointed over his head. Cedric was swimming towards him with a big bubble covering his nose and mouth. He watched at Cedric pulled a knife out of his pocket and cut you free.
Cedric grabbed hold of you gentle and then motion to Harry to get moving before guiding you up and out of sight.
Harry heard screeching from the merpeople. He turned and saw a shark coming at him. He went to dodge only to realize that it stopped before him, right at Hermione. It was then that he saw that the shark was actually just Krum.
Krum bit the kelp around Hermione's ankle, grabbed her wrist and raise rapidly towards the surface.
You awake when your head emerges above the water, only you haven't fully realize where you are just yet. You straighten your legs to touch the ground, expect there is no ground and you panic. Sinking back into the water, you open your mouth to cry out. Arms are around you pulling you up.
"You're okay, you're okay." a voice is saying.
You open your eyes and see you're in the Black Lake, when only moments ago you were just standing in Dumbledore's office. Your hand grab on tightly to whatever or whoever was holding you.
"Hey, it's okay, I got you." Cedric reassure.
He guides the both of you over to bank where Dumbledore and others were waiting for the both of you.
Madam Pomfrey was there immediately with blankets, wrapping you so tight that it felt like a mummy. She forced a potion down your throat too that made you instantly warm.
Okay, so that's you and Hermione, but what about the girl? Harry looked off in the distance, as far as the lake would let him, there was still no signs on Fleur. Though merpeople had let go of Harry, they were still closed in around him and Ron. They knew what he was thinking and were shaking their heads at him.
Harry drew out his wand, magic will not work during this task, but maybe the merpeople didn't know that. They scatter away scared. Harry darted forward and began to hack at the kelp. He seized her arm and Ron's and kicked off from the bottom.
His body began to change back to normal, he was so close to the top. The silts on his neck had closed up and Harry felt his lungs begin to burn. He could only hold his breath for so long.
To make matter worst, the grindylows from earlier wanted revenge. A hoard of them began to claw at his legs and surround him. He kicked his legs hard and fast. Water was getting into his mouth and lungs, he was starting to feel dizzy, but the light was so so close. He had to get Ron and the little girl up to the surface.
The grindylows were attacking him all over and began to drag him down. He thinks this is the end. He thinks about you, Hermione….Sirius.
Harry pushed Ron and the girl up to the surface with all his might.
You glanced at the clock that was place near the judges table, time was almost up and Harry still hadn't broken surface.
"He made it there before I did." Cedric told you, "He should have been right behind us."
Just as the clock ding, two heads broke the surface of the lake. The crowd on the other side began to cheer. The heads belong to Ron and a little girl with blonde hair similar to Fleur's. Ron helped the girl get to the bank and then looked around. Where was Harry?
The dream of you drowning wasn't maybe you at all, but of Harry. You scanned the water for any signs of the boy. Percy was motioning for Ron to get out of the lake, but Ron was refusing.
Then one by one, wild, green-haired heads emerged out of the water. The merpeople, they had something in their arms — Harry. Ron had swam over and help bring him closer to shore. He was breathing, thankfully, but it was shallow.
Madam Pomfrey and Dumbledore were over him instantly. Madam Pomfrey did something and Harry was turning over on his side puking up water.
"I want all the judges over here, now!" Dumbledore shouted after he made sure Harry was okay.
Madam Pomfrey wrapped Harry in two blankets like she did the rest of you before leaving to grab the warming potion she had you drink.
"Harry!" Hermione shrieked.
"Hermione, ow." Harry's voice was raspy from the lake water.
"Are you alright?" Hermione rubbed Harry's arm to try and simulate warmth.
You and Cedric went over to Harry. You grabbed him and kissed the top of head wet head.
"Harry, you idiot! Why did it take you so long!" you shouted at him.
"Fleur didn't show up, I couldn't just leave the girl there." Harry responded.
Cedric laughs a bit, "You thought the song was serious? It was just so you made it back inside the time limit. I was trying to tell you that because the hour was about to be up.
Madam Pomfrey was back and had shoved all of you out of her way to get to Harry.
Dumbledore and other ministry officials were at the water's edge talking to the what seem to be the leader of the merpeople. Who knew Dumbledore could speak Mermish. After twenty minutes of discussion, Ludo Bagman's voice boomed out making everyone jump.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached our decision. The merpeople have told us exactly what happened at the bottom of the lake and we have therefore decided to awards marks out of fifty as follows…"
Bagman continued, "Fleur Delacour, though she demonstrated excellent use of the Bubble-Head charm, was attacked by grindylows and failed to retrieve her hostage. We award her twenty-five points."
Applause from the stands across.
"Cedric Diggory, who also used the Bubble-Head Charm, was first to return with his hostage within the time limit of an hour, therefore award him fifty points."
Enormous cheers from the Hufflepuffs in the crowd. Cedric looked at you with a glowing look and you responded with a smile. That landed him in first place.
"Viktor Krum used an incomplete form of Transfiguration and was second to return with his hostage within the time limit of an hour. We award him forty-five points.
Karkaroff clapped particularly hard, looking very superior.
"Harry Potter used gillyweed to great effect," Bagman announced, "He returned last and returned outside the time limit of an hour. However, the mer chief has inform us that Mr. Potter was first to reach the hostages and the delay in his return was due to his determination to return all hostages to safety."
You turn to Harry, commiserating look. You knew in any situation Harry would never leave you behind or Hermione for that matter.
"Most judges…" Bagman gave Karkaroff a rather nasty look, "feel that this shows moral fiber and merits full marks. However….Mr. Potter's score is forty-seven points."
Ron and Hermione were surprised at this, They stared at Harry before laughing and applauding hard with the rest of the crowd.
"The third and final task will take place at dusk on the twenty-fourth of June," Your happiness was quickly replaced with dread, "champions will be notified of what is coming precisely one month beforehand. Thank you all for your support of the champions."
You have only a few months to figure out how to save Cedric from a deadly faith. Oh right…George. He must be loosing his mind, no? Or did he not give a second thought when you didn't show up to meet him last night.
Madam Pomfrey started herding all the champions and hostages back to the castle to get into dry clothes. Up the hill, your group of friends were waiting.
"Right on, Harry!" Fred shouted, ruffling the boys hair. "All that moral fiber, aye?"
"Just when you think things go wrong, it turns out right." Ron commented.
Your attention drew from Harry and the Weasleys to your own family. Astoria attack you with a hug.
"You're alright! What were they thinking kidnapping people in the night and just putting them at the bottom of the lake like that." Daphne said.
"Awe, you do love me." You joked.
Daphne rolled her eyes and you felt another pair of arms around you, Beth
"We were all worried sick, when you didn't come back last night." Beth mention.
You smiled at your friends, "Merlin, I didn't mean to cause panic."
"You cause more than a little panic." Fred mention. George hit him before he could say anything else.
You wanted to say something to George, but Madam Pomfrey had realized that you strayed from the group and was yelling at you to come in.
After you changed into warm clothing and was release from questioning by your roommates, you went to find George. Though went you exited the Hufflepuff common room, George was already there, standing near the other set of barrels.
You tilt your head at him, "How long have you've been waiting there?"
"I've only just got here." George states, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, for real…I was on my way to you last night I swear–"
"You don't have to apologize, love. Just what happen?"
You shake your head, "Professor Sprout took me to Professor Dumbledore's office where they told me about the task. Before I could object, Bagman already said the spell and-" you paused.
George watch your body language change, "What?"
"Moody…right before I fell under the spell…he- I heard him call me, pup. The only other person I've heard call me that…was Sirius." you tell him.
more notes: one more chapter. I'm so excited for the ending of this era.
Batsiblings as an interaction between me and my brother
Dick: *rushes into the movie room* Guys that Airbender movie is finally out, wanna watch?
Steph: YEAAAA! Pull it up Tim.
Tim: *Pulls up the movie and presses rewatch button*
Jason: Um...why did that say resume?
Tim: I have no idea what you're talking about.
Duke: Did you already watch it? Without us?
Tim: No, I don't know why it said that...must be a glitch.
Steph: Did you watch it with Kon?
Dick: Or did you watch it by yourself.
Jason: Either way is a betrayal.
Tim: Guys, shh you're missing the beginning of the movie.
a/n: anways movie was good, but I'm still piss that he watched it without me.
Hey guys! Okay so it's been a minute since I last updated this story on here. To be honest, I'm putting this story on the back burner.
What does that mean?
It means that I'm not going to be updating it like I have been.
Don't get me wrong. Sixth Sense is my first child, I've been writing it since way before I even decided to share it with the public (the verison here on Tumblr is the alter 'x reader' storyline), but I haven't been feeling inspired to write more chapters...until recently.
What inspired Sixth Sense in the first place?
I started analyzing the books/movies more one day for fun and just began to wonder how easier Harry's life would have been if everyone was just honest with him from the beginning.
Diana Greengrass was created to do just that, only it's later that I realize (after building her character and backstory) that Diana was place in the wrong time period. Then I created Eurydice (Diana's revenge), that's who Sixth Sense truly follow.
Why the 'x reader' version then?
'x reader' is what is most popular in fanfiction. I posted a tester OC fic here, just to see if maybe people would be interested. The results were how I expected to be, but if people are interested in Diana's and Eurydice's (Eurydice's journey is slightly different than readers in the later parts) story, I will post them. For now, my girls are just that...my girls.
Wait so what's happening?
Sixth Sense is going on a slow update run. I just wanted to let all of my followers that are here for that story know that, so you guys don't think I forgotten about it.
I can never forget about this story, it consumes me. Remember how I said that I wasn't feeling inspired until just recently. Yeah well, I went to see the pro-shot of Hadestown and Reeve's and Eva's performance just moved me in a way that I couldn't stop thinking about Eurydice and George, whose relationship is very inspired by Hadestown Orpheus and Eurydice. They just have my heart forever.
Anyways! ADHD kicking in, with the updates being slow, I will try to make the chapters longer to compensate (keyword is try), but the hopefully longer chapter won't be until Order of Phoenix storyline because Goblet of Fire end chapters are basically done, they just need editing.
I will see you guys again in chapter twelve of Sixth Sense.

The video starts with a quote from Dick Grayson.
"I can already see the comments shaming us for going for the milk. You try these wings! Try them!" he yells at the camera.
The introduction montage starts to play.
"This is Hot Ones Versus." the narrator of the video said, "In front of these contestants is a stack of deeply personal questions. They can either tell the truth…"
It cuts to a moment featuring Jason.
"I think this might actually kill Tim…" he's quoted saying.
"Or suffer the wrath of The Last Dab." the narrator continues.
Tim's voice cuts through, "Oh my gods, this is so bad!"
"Whoever eats the most wings…loses." the narration ends.
Sitting at the table was Tim on the left side; Dick and Duke sitting at the center fully in front of the camera; and Jason sitting on the right side. Palate of wings were laying in front of each boy, along with glasses of milk and water.
"We binged watch every episode of Hot Ones in preparation for this by the way." Dick states.
"I'm scared." Tim says.
"I'm excited actually." Duke states.
Round One
Dick picks up the first card, "This one is for Tim."
"Shit." Tim says.
"For this first challenge, you can only use one your senses. Choose wisely." Dick read.
"Let's go with taste since we're here. That's the respectable thing to do when your doing a wing challenge." Tim said.
Dick laughs as he read ahead to himself.
"Oh no, that was a bad idea wasn't it."
Dick nods his head, "After gracing us with their presence sixteen years ago, Mattel introduced to us a Justice League toy line featuring the six original members. The line continue to grow as the League did. You must now successfully identify Justice League toys only using the sense you selected. Which was taste."
There was laughter coming from the crew and Tim instantly regrets his choice.
"I don't think anyone but Tim could do this." Duke said as a crew member comes and places a blindfold and headphones near Tim.
"I live for this shit." Tim said as he put on the headphones. "Alright I'm ready!"
A tray featuring action figures of the original six Justice League was place in front of Dick. He grabs the Aquaman figurine first and holds it up.
"Open up." Dick said.
Tim begins to practically make out with the toy. Jason, on the other side of the table, was loosing it.
"Someone clip this please." Jason said looking at the camera.
"Hold it still!" Tim mumbled out, mouth full was Aquaman's head. "Can I have the arm please?"
"What do you want? The weapon?" Dick asked.
"Aha." Tim said before wrapping his lips around the trident. "Aquaman."
Dick hold up the Wonder Women figurine next. Tim clamps down on the head, feeling the toy with his mouth. Dick is trying to not to laugh too much.
"Can you provide me with the feet?" Tim asked.
Dick turned the figurine so that Wonder Woman's feet were now being bitten by Tim.
"I think it's Wonder Woman."
"Yes!" Dick exclaims.
Flash was next. Dick slows protrudes Tim's mouth with Flash's head.
"I've got no idea." Tim said, sitting back a little.
"Focus on it's head…it's got two identifiably things on its head." Duke said.
Tim goes back for the head once more before sitting back after a minute.
"Okay is it Batman?" Tim said unsure, "Flash."
Dick looks towards the crew, "Does that count?"
"I'll let you make the call." a male crew member said.
Tim still blindfolded knew what verdict his brother was going to make.
"Bullshit, you just shoved plastic in my mouth for the last twenty minutes. I should be given that." Tim yells. Dick, Duke, and Jason all lean in various of ways in laughter, "Is it Flash?"
"Yes, but you guess Batman first." Dick reminded.
"No, but I corrected myself immediately." Tim defended.
"Cause I didn't immediately say yes." Dick argued.
"This is rigged. Do I have to eat a wing?" Tim looked between his brothers and the crew.
"Yes that's literally the whole point." Dick stated.
Reluctant, Tim ate a wing. the others waited with baited breath for his reaction.
Tim swallowed, "I'm fine-" His words were interrupted by a cough that made the others laugh.
"I think this might actually kill Tim…" Jason said.
"Our little Victorian child." Dick commented.
Tim held up his middle finger as he drunk from his water glass.
Jason picks up the next card.
"This is a wildcard for Dick." an air horn sounds and the words 'wildcard' goes across the screen. "Okay then um…Dick you grew up in a traveling circus, where you were performing acrobatic tricks by the age of five."
"True." Dick confirms.
"Put your skills to the test by beating me in a handstand competition. Whoever loses must eat a death wing." Jason read.
"Oh great." Dick said, sarcastically.
The tables have been pushed to the side. It was just Dick and Jason against the white back drop with Tim and Duke standing to the side.
"You ready to go?" Dick asked is brother.
"Let's do this." Jason responds.
Both boys fall into a handstand, their backs facing the camera.
"We're gonna be here a while." Tim mention.
Duke has a card in his hand, "To spice up the competition, the other opponents can now try to sabotage the competitors."
"What?!" both Dick and Jason yelled.
Foam balls were given to Duke and Tim. They started to throw the balls at their older brothers. The older boys start to let out a series of complaints. Both had now turned so they were facing the camera. Jason had caught a ball and threw it back towards Duke. Tim nailed Dick in the balls causing him to falter.
Dick groans as he falls backwards. Jason remains in a handstand.
"Ha, I win!" Jason boast.
"This game is rigged." Dick stated.
The tables are back and everyone is back in their seats. Dick sighs and looks up at the ceiling before taking a bit.
"Mhm, mhm. Okay." Dick wipes his fingers on the black napkin. He lets out a breath that turns into a cough. "Coughing does not help."
"Duke, you led the We Are Robin youth movement after Batman was presumed dead leaving Gotham hero-less.." Tim read from the card.
"Oh, y'all did research, I see." Duke commented to the crew.
Tim continues to read, "Rank all of the Robins from best to worst."
Duke thinks for a moment, "There's five Robins or four past Robins and we are on number five now. I'm going to say Robin 3, Robin 2, Robin 1, Robin 5, Robin 4."
Round Two
Tim: I Dick: I Duke: 0 Jason: 0
"Jason, you love and know romance novels, but how well do you know your RomComs? I will now read poorly described plot descriptions and you must tell me which movie it is. Miss one and eat a death wing." Tim said.
"Poorly described?" Jason questioned. He makes a face, not confident in his skills.
Tim nods goes to read the first plot, but the wing from earlier was still effecting him. "It doesn't get better with time," he states, "Okay a woman falls for her arch nemesis via email."
"You've got mail." Jason said instantly.
Second plot: "Two people who desperately want to break up realize that Staten Island is for lovers."
"How to lose a guy in ten days?" Jason said unsure.
"Yeah." Tim confirmed.
Third Plot: "A high-schooler who can't drive realizes she falling in love with her step-brother."
Jason laughs, "Clueless."
"I'm sorry what? She falls for her step-brother?" Duke makes a face.
"They were step-sibling," Jason explains, "we'll watch it next movie night."
Fourth plot: "A man doesn't think he came be friends with a woman, but he can share a sandwich with her."
"When Harry me Sally, which I've actually never seen before." Jason states.
Fifth plot: "A boss blackmails her assistant into marriage."
"The Proposal."
Sixth plot: "A woman accepts a proposal from a recovering asshole."
Jason brows pinch, "Huh?"
Tim stifles a laugh, "Dude, you have to get this. You're going to be so mad if you don't."
Jason mumbles the sentence back to himself. Dick leans over to see what the movie was and makes a face.
"Jay, come on you know this." Dick hinted.
"Can we give hints?" Duke asked looking towards the crew.
"Yes." someone answered.
"This is like a movie adaptation of a really popular book." Tim said.
"That like fifty percent of Rom-Coms!" Jason exclaims.
"Do you give up?" Tim asked.
Jason sighs in defeat and picks up a wing, "What was it?"
"Pride and Prejudice."
"Fuck! Are you serious?" Jason fumed.
"I told you you were going to be mad." Tim reminded.
"Kudos to you, you did good, Jay." Duke praised.
Jason shook his head, upset that he didn't guess his favorite novel. He takes a huge bite of a drumstick.
"Oh Jason is just going in…" Duke said watching Jason.
"Damn Jay…" Dick observed.
"It taste the way bleeding feels" Jason coughed out.
Tim smirked, "Yeah, you would know all about that wouldn't you."
Jason threw him a death stare, "You are so lucky that there is about five feet between us — holy shit, I feel like it's getting worse." he goes to chug some water while his brothers laugh at him.
"Duke, you are still relatively new to the family." Jason struggles to read out.
"You okay there, Jay?" Duke asked, chuckling.
Jason clears his throat, "Shut up…rank all of us from most to least likable." He throws the card down.
"Rank like rank all of the siblings or rank everyone in the family." Duke looks to Jason then the crew.
"Yeah, we'll say just us sibling." Jason said.
Duke shakes his head, "I can't do that. You've all been so welcoming to me."
"See we haven't broken him in yet because everyone else would have answer this in a heartbeat." Jason told the crew/camera.
"So you can rank the Robins just fine, but not us?" Dick questioned.
Duke picks up a wing and takes a bit. He chews on it then makes a satisfied face.
"It's good." He clears his throat, "Definitely feel it in the chest."
Round Three
Tim: I Dick: I Duke: I Jason: I
"Dealer's choice. The player who picks this can ask one of their opponents any question they wish…their opponent must answer truthfully or eat a death wing." Dick reads out loud. His voice was going in and out still affected by the wing from earlier. "Well this can actually be a question…for everyone, but going to mostly directed to Jason…"
"Fuck you." Jason said, sweating from the heat of the wing.
"What happened to my motorcycle, Jason?" Dick asked.
"That's why I said fuck you in advance." Jason said, voice breathy.
"What happened to my motorcycle?" Dick asked the question again.
"Which one?" Tim asked trying to act oblivious.
"Don't play stupid with me, Timothy." Dick argued.
"I think we should pretend that this card never happened…" Duke said.
Dick looked forward, a little past the camera, "Bruce, where's my bike? I know you know…"
There was a pause before Bruce's voice was heard in the distant, "Ask Jason."
Dick turned to Jason again, "Jason…"
Jason also looked off camera, "Damian."
"I swore an oath to father that I wouldn't tell…" Damian said from behind the camera.
Dick looks at Bruce with tight lips, "Now why would he have to do that, Bruce?"
"Everyone eat a wing." Bruce declare.
Duke took a bit of a wing without complaint. Tim picked up a wing and took the smallest bite in the world. Jason took a bite, but bite of a lot more than he wanted to.
Dick saw him about to spit it out, "Nope, you got to eat that."
"Tim you've been in more hostage situation than anyone else in the family." Duke says.
Tim looks towards the crew, "Alright, who the fuck made these cards?" Everyone laughs.
"Rank these villains that have held you hostage from least intimidating to most intimidating. Condiment King…."
"Condiment King, really Tim." Dick looks at his brother.
"I was just trying to get a bat burger." Tim grumbled.
"…Kite-Man, Polka-Dot Man, and The Mad Hatter." Duke finished saying.
"Mad Hatter, I understand, but Kite-Man and Polka-Dot Man, Tim." Jason threw a disappointed look at him.
"From least to most intimidating? Um…Kite-Man, Condiment King, Polka-Dot Man, and Mad Hatter." Tim answered.
"Hey Richard…" Jason says with the biggest grin on his face.
Dick, already not liking this, "What the fuck do you want, Jay?"
Jason laughs as he reads the card again, "I love whoever made these cards."
"Get on with it!" Dick yelled.
"You've had many public girlfriends, one of whom was the police commissioner's daughter…" the camera zooms in on Dick's face, which was sweating and scared for the question. "Out of all your girlfriends whose the worst kisser?" Jason laughs starts silence before it gradually getting louder as he watches his older brother complaint life.
"Um…" Dick began as he picked up a wing, "Y'all play dirty and I don't appreciate it."
Dick hesitates before taking a bit of the wing, "I feel like it gets hotter every time I eat it." He lets the taste settle.
"Are those tears, Grayson?" Damian asked from behind the scene.
"No…" Dick denied. "I can already see the comments shaming us for going for the milk. 'Oh, they can't handle it blah blah.' You try these wings! Try them!"
Round Four
Tim: II Dick: II Duke: II Jason: II
Duke picks up a card, "It's tradition around here to put a little extra on the last wing…"
"You and your opponents can add an extra dab to your final wings now." Duke finished reading.
Tim and Dick both get up, but Tim goes to grab a bottle of sauce while Dick walks straight off the set.
Jason laughs, "Dick just left."
Tim confused, "Where is he going?"
There is laughter coming from the crew. The camera pans off set to where Jason was coming back in.
"You good brother?" Duke asked when Dick walked back.
There's a cut in the video, the boys are back at the table. Each putting a little extra one their wings…maybe a little too extra.
The camera is on Jason's wing. The sauce pours out of the bottle fast.
"Oh gosh is that too much?" Jason picks up the wing to show the crew/camera, "Will this send me to hell?"
The camera is on Duke's wing next. He pour the tiniest bit of sauce on his wing.
"Duke…" Tim observed both Jason's and Duke's wing, "Look at the difference."
"It said a little." Duke defended himself.
Dick was next, pouring the same amount of sauce as Jason.
"Oh see they like living life on the edge" Duke stated to the camera.
Tim pour a little extra than Jason and Dick.
"Yeah no, you guys are cooked." Duke shook his head and the three boys laughed. "Our local vigilante Batman is know for his unique utility belt that houses gadgets such as the bat shaped ninja stars. For this last challenge we'll be testing how good your aim is while wearing inverted goggles. The player with the most points wins."
The set changes. A backdrop of the skyline of Gotham city is rolled down. Crew members roll in a dart board and lock it into place. Each boy was given inverted goggles and three 'bat-a-rang'.
"Okay should we throw to see who goes first?" Dick asked.
"Nah let's just do youngest to oldest like we always do." Jason said.
Duke puts on the goggles and looks around, "Woah."
"Alright, ready? Gonna spin you." Jason said and began to spin Duke.
Jason stopped and then position Duke so it was facing the board. Duke throws his first dart - 20.
"Shit." Jason said.
Duke threw the other two darts - 4, then 14. Duke lifted his goggles to see his score.
"Oh wow, I did better than I thought." Duke surprise with himself.
Tim was up next. Jason spun him faster than he did Duke. Stopping Tim and lining him up with the board. Tim stumbles a little when Jason stops him.
"Why did you spin me so fast you jerk." Tim whined before holding his hand up to throw the first dart. He had missed the board completely causing everyone to laugh.
"I fucking missed didn't I…" Tim frown getting ready to throw his second one.
"No no, you're doing great." Dick reassures.
Tim throws his second dart - 20. Then lastly his third - 3. Tim took his goggles off.
Jason was next. Dick spun him for longer than Jason had spun Duke and Tim.
"Alright, Dick!" Jason shouted, holding his hands out to steady himself. "Am I lined up?"
"Yeah." Dick lied.
Jason first throw missed, sticking itself on the backdrop instead. Jason turned a little to his left and threw his second - 1. The boys let out a laugh. Jason threw his final dart - 3. Taking his goggles off, Jason saw his darts.
"This game is rigged." Jason stated.
Dick walks up next. All three boys join together to spin him. Though it was more of Dick getting jolts around. Jason patted Dick's shoulders as to settles him into position. Dick throws his first dart - 5. His second dart was close to the green center, but not quite and his third dart missed. Dick removed his goggles.
"Okay could be better, but hey, I was the closest to the bullseye." Dick said.
Duke: 38 Tim: 23 Jason: 4 Dick: 17
The camera cuts and Jason, Dick, and Tim have their palette of wings in their hands. While Duke just stands beside them.
"Cheers." Dick said as him, Jason, and Tim bumped their wings together. "Alright guys, I'll see you…"
"On the other side." Jason finished.
"On the toilet." Tim said also finishing Dick's sentence.
The three take bites of their wings and the effects are immediate.
"Oh…OHHHH." Tim yelled.
"I ate the whole splotch…." Jason mumbled out already beginning to sweat.
"This is the end of my week." Dick declared.
The videos skips to moments later, Dick, Jason, and Tim have accepted their fates. Duke stands in front of the camera with the trophy wing in hand, completely un-phased. The rest of the boys are seen panting, crying, or chugging milk.
"So I won. Uh white people are crazy." Duke says as he starts his winning speech.
The camera is focus on Duke, but in the background was Tim, actively dying. The boy had tears in his eyes and a glass of water in hand.
"Oh my gods, this is so bad." he said bent over laughing through the pain.
Duke ignores the cries of distress and continues, "This is for my parents and my people. A shout out to Bruce and Y/N." He gives a smile as the crew applause. "All righty, thank you!"
"Bru- Dad!" Dick yells holding his arms out towards Bruce, who was coming in frame.
Bruce chuckles as his eldest wraps him in a hug.
"Alright there, chum?" Bruce amuse by the situation.
Dick sucks in a breath, "I'm gonna died, this is hotter than Cass' Buldak noodles."
Jason comes into view with a traumatic look and red eyes from crying, clutching onto Damian. Seeing that everyone in a state of…not functioning, Duke closes out the video.
"This has been Hot Ones with the Wayne Brothers. Thank you so much for having us. Be sure to catch our next video, whatever that might be." Duke said throwing an arm around Jason. "How are you feeling?"
Nothing but a small whine came from Jason. Duke laugh enjoying the sight of his surrogate brothers in different states of unwell. The crew starts to clap, and credits start to roll as Duke leaves Jason and Damian.

The video opens up with a clip of a moment later in time. Bruce Wayne is in the hot seat with you asking the questions.
"I feel like this is going to be boring because you generally don't really lie." you say.
"What? I lie to the press all the time…and our children." Bruce states.
"Truth." the operator, Judd says.
You stare at him with wide eyes, "Honey, you can't say that."
The video cuts to both you and Bruce sitting next to one another. Both of your hands are clasp on the table while Bruce's are hidden under. One of them of which is on your thigh though the camera doesn't see it. A female crew member from Vanity Fair sits just off camera on the other side of the table.
"Y/N, Bruce, you were both brought here today to take a lie detector test. One of you will be hooked up onto the machine and the other will interview. Then you switch." She tells you. Both you and Bruce nod in understatement. "This is Judd, our polygraph operator." she introduce the man sitting off to the side.
You and Bruce both turn to him. Bruce gave him a greeting nod, you smiled and gave a small 'hello.'
"Who wants to be in the hot seat first?" the crew member asked.
You laugh nervously and turn to look at your husband and he looks at you.
"Is the hot seat the lying seat or the other one?" Bruce asked.
"This side is the test and also it's the truth seat." you tell him.
"Well then ladies first." Bruce says, which you gasp in shock.
You are getting hooked to the machine and are suddenly getting nervous. Judd, the lie detector operator, places your right arm on the table.
"Try not to move this arm too much." he told you.
A montage of setting up the lie detector starts to roll before the camera is on Bruce, now sitting opposite of you.
"My love…to calibrate the machine, I'm going to ask you some straight forward questions. Please answer honestly. Is your full name Y/N M/N Wayne?"
"Yes." you say.
"Are you 39 years old?"
Once again your eyes widen, "Didn't anyone tell you it was rude to ask a women her age?" Bruce just gives you a smug smile. "Yes." you finally answer with an eye roll.
"Are you about to take a polygraph exam?"
"Yes…everything I say feels like is a lie." you say then looked over at Judd. "Is it registering than I am?"
Judd shakes his head, "No, you're doing fine."
Bruce raised an eyebrow at you, "Are you nervous?"
"Well I wasn't before we arrived, but now being hooked up, I am. I guess I never realize how much I lie in life. Now I'm actively trying not to and it just feels wrong." you say.
"You lie more times than you think you do." Bruce stated.
Y/N Wayne Tells The Truth
Bruce reads off the first prompt, "You once told the Gotham Gazette that you feel like everyone hates you." you nod your head. "Do you still believe that?"
You nod your head again, "Yeah."
The camera switches back to Bruce, whose face had nothing but concern written on it.
"Why?" he said so quietly that it also didn't get picked up by audio.
"Um…I mean I don't know why anyone wouldn't have like some resentment towards me. You are like Gotham's baby, the prince of Gotham City. The city loved your parents and by extension you. Then here I come, a low-middle class girl from Star City, somehow got the playboy to settle down. I was living most Gotham girls fantasy and different from everyone else. So yeah I knew people hated me and I think some still do."
"I wouldn't trade you for anyone." Bruce stated.
"Awe you sap."
"Is the real reason you took the job to be my assistant because you secretly wanted to date me?"
"Really? That's the next question, even after what I just said?" you rolled your eyes, "No."
"She's telling the truth." Judd said.
"I truly had no idea who you were. I'm from the west coast, we didn't care about what was happening in the east. Which also if we are being honest…I think Alfred was looking for someone who didn't care who you were."
Judd nods, "Truth."
"Am I a good husband?" Bruce ask with a straight face.
You take a moment to answer, "Yes."
Judd shakes his head and Bruce tilts his head at you.
"What? No! You are you're a great husband…I will say though that you weren't a very good boyfriend, but I've had worst."
"That's the truth." Judd says.
"Okay so then follow up, what made me not that good of a boyfriend?"
"Well, there are two big things, but for legal reason…I can't say." you say.
"You went to the same high school as this person." Bruce slides over a picture of Oliver Queen.
You knit your eyebrows in confusion before realizing who it was, "Oh Ollie."
"Don't like how you said that…" Bruce mumble. "You dated during your senior year. Would you say that he was one of your worst that you were talking about?"
Your mouth twist as you looked at the picture, thinking hard. You opened your mouth to speak, but then retracted it.
"No." you finally say.
"That's a lie." spoke Judd.
Your jaw dropped as Bruce laughs a little, "What? I didn't lie. Sure he wasn't the best and he owns up to that…now at least. The ones in college though…" You make a face.
"Ones? Plural?"
"Oh, don't act like that…you practically had a new girlfriend every month according to Alfred."
"I already know the answer to this one," Bruce says and you give an offended look, "Do you look at fan accounts dedicated to you?"
You laugh, "I look at fan accounts dedicated to all of us. Especially ones about Dami."
Judd nods, "She's telling the truth."
You look into the camera, "I gotta make sure everyone is being respectful and appropriate about my baby."
"We see it all." Bruce comments.
"You make me watch a lot of reality TV." Bruce says.
"I don't make you, you enjoy it."
"Do you think we should have our own reality TV?"
You shake your head, "God no. We are kind of public enough, I don't need the world seeing into our home life."
"Truthful."
"If I asked to with hold information from a super villain to cover for me, would you?" Bruce makes a face.
"No." you say equally making the same face.
"I would never ask you to do that."
"I don't even think our kids would cover for you." you and Bruce both laugh. "Also, I've done that before…wouldn't recommend."
"Did you lie at any point of this interview and we didn't catch you?" Bruce asked.
"I think I was pretty truthful consider that fact that I felt what I was saying was all lies."
"My turn I guess." Bruce said tossing what he was reading off of behind him.
The camera cuts to now Bruce getting hooked up to the polygraph machine.
"Bruce, to calibrate the machine, I'm going to ask you some straight forward questions. Please answer honestly." you read off of a note pad. Bruce nods. "Is your full name Bruce Thomas Wayne?" you asked.
Bruce nods, "Yes."
"Are you from Gotham, New Jersey?"
"Yes."
"Are you about to take a lie detector test?"
Bruce smiles at you, "I suppose that I am. Yes."
You look toward Judd, the lie detector operator, "Good?"
"All good." Judd says back to you, and you turn your attention back to your husband.
Bruce Wayne Tells The Truth
"I feel like this is going to be boring because you generally don't really lie." you say.
"What? I lie to the press all the time…and our children." Bruce states.
"He's telling the truth." Judd says.
You look at him with wide eyes, "Honey, you can't say that."
Bruce shrugs, clearly not caring.
You look down at the paper the crew gave you. Pre-reading the first one, it makes you laugh.
"I'm already not liking this." Bruce admits.
"How often are you faking that you remember people at Galas from when you were a kid?" you ask.
Bruce doesn't hesitate to answer, "Oh, all the time."
"That's so bad." you say, "You're horrible."
Bruce shrugs again.
"The family group chat often talks about how hot this person is " you slide a picture of Clark Kent in front of Bruce.
"Oh no…" Bruce says already knowing where this was going.
"There is a part of the internet that is very dedicated on shipping you two together..,"
"Shipping?"
You gave your husband a deadpan look, "Don't try to act like you don't know what that is. I know Stephanie's explained it to you before."
Bruce chuckles.
"The two of you are seen pretty close with each other. So the question is would you leave me if Clark Kent declared his love for you?"
Bruce draws his lips into a thin line. Staring a the photo of Clark on the table, contemplating. Five minutes go by and you, on the other side of the table, look at your so call lover with with shock.
"Bruce this is a long time, goodness!"
Bruce shakes his head, "No, no I wouldn't leave you." You turn your head to Judd.
"Truth." said Judd, but you shake your head.
"I don't believe you. Would you leave me for Clark Kent?" you ask again.
"No." He said it clear with a stern voice.
You are narrowing your eyes at him as Judd tells you that Bruce was telling the truth.
"Before dropping out of Gotham University, you were dorm mates with Former District Attorney, Harvey Dent. Was he a good roommate?"
"I think we were both equally bad roommates…" Bruce said.
"Would you say that you are or were more successful than him?"
"Ohhh." Bruce made a face like that question psychically hurt him. You laugh at his reaction, "No absolutely not."
"Deceptive." Judd said, causing both you and Bruce to laugh.
"Oh well I already know the answer to this, but when was the last time you made a dinner reservation?" you laugh. Bruce makes a face that you couldn't describe. "Never." you said as you shook your head. "I don't think you ever have, Alfred does it for you."
"If I did and this was before you, I would just call and pretend to be my own assistant…" Bruce revealed.
"Well, you didn't have to," you told him laughing, "It was just something you chose to do."
"You're quite well know for your physique. What's your secret for staying so fit and or hydrated?"
Bruce thinks on how to answer, "I get wet when I…"
The camera cuts back to you. You are slightly shaking your head, trying not to laugh.
"No…say something else." you say. Bruce breaks into silent laughter. "Please say something else."
"What was the question again?" Bruce asked.
"What's your secret to staying so hydrated or fit?"
"I get wet when I-"
"NO!" you yell, "Bruce say it another way…" you tell him.
"I drink water? I work out almost everyday?" Bruce responds.
"There you go. Oh my god, Bruce." you say.
Bruce laughs at your panic expression.
"Moving on from whatever that was-"
"What I was trying to say-" Bruce began, cutting you off.
"NO! Honey, we're done." you say.
"We have a lot of kids." You state reading of the card, "Out of all of them, who is your favorite?"
"Are you trying to start a war?" Bruce ask.
"Not me, Vanity Fair."
"I don't have a favorite." Bruce claims.
"That's a lie." Judd tells you. You burst into laughter
"It varies week to week. Who ever runs my patients the least that week the is favorite."
"Truth." Judd says.
"So then who gets on your nerves the least?" Jason's voice said from somewhere off camera.
"Cassandra…and Duke."
Judd nods, "Truth."
"Are you the crime fighting vigilante known as Batman?"
Bruce sighs, "Am I going to get asked this every interview we do?"
"Answer the question, honey."
"No." Bruce declared.
Judd's face twitch a little, "Ask him again."
You let out a little surprise noise, "Did it not pick up?"
You lean forward looking into your husband's eyes. He was staring back at you, with a shit eating grin on his face.
"Are you Batman?" you ask again.
Bruce leans forward too, leaning into your eyes. You're enjoying this, he could tell.
"No." Bruce answered.
"He's telling the truth." Judd announced.
You fell back into the chairs, "We almost had him guys." you say referring to the people of the internet.
"Okay that was all the question. Did you lie at any point during this interview and we didn't catch you?"
Bruce nods, "Yes."
"True." Judd said.
You looked wide eye at your husband, "Are you serious?" Bruce smiles and nods. Mouth open with shock, "When?"
"I'm not going to say."
"Can I say what I think you lied about?" you smiled.
"What?"
"Leaving me for Clark Kent." you laughed.

November 25th, 1994
You're munching on breakfast the next morning after the first task. It was a normal breakfast all things consider. The talks of the first task were high and whispers about what the next task could be were also going around.
"Look at this!"
It was Hermione's voice disturbing the peace. She was fiddling with the mornings Daily Prophet. You tuned her out a bit and turned your focus back on the people in front of you; Fred, Angelina, and George.
A few moments later, Hermione voiced your name. The tone was shocking.
Confused you say, "What?"
"She wrote about you and…Cedric." Hermione said.
"Who are we talking about?" George tuned into the conversation.
Hermione grumbled, "Rita Skeeter." She passed along the Daily Prophet.
"Harry Potter and Viktor Krum aren't the only champions experiencing romance. Cedric Diggory, the second Hogwarts Champion, seems to be in a sparking romance with fellow housemate, Y/N Greengrass." Fred reads.
"That bloody woman." you say snatching the paper to read it properly.
The article was title, Romance and Heartache, with of picture of Harry and Hermione hugging before the first task in a heart frame, a picture of Viktor Krum right below that and on the bottom of the page, that picture of you and Cedric that Rita took also in a heart frame.
You looked up and scan the table. Hermione was giving you a look of sympathy, but she was also furious. Angelina seemed like she wasn't surprised at all. Fred had a smug look on his face that you wanted to slap off and George…well George was unreadable at the moment. Which you find strange because you can normally read him very well.
"You know it's not like that. You were there. I was just comforting him." you reassured.
"I don't know…" Fred began and you were already giving him a look, "hard to tell from where we were standing."
'You're not helping.' was what your expression was telling him before shoving the paper at him.
On the way to charms, Beau and Beth met up with you.
"Care to explain this?" Beth asked, showing you the same Daily Prophet page from earlier. You rolled your eyes.
"It was taken out of context. Cedric was nervous, I was just comforting him. Ask the twins, they were there." you said.
Beau gave a curious look, "George witness the whole thing?"
"That's literally what I just said. Are your ears on?" you asked.
"How did he react? Was he jealous?" Beth asked.
What the hell is up with everyone?
"Well?" They were waiting on an answer.
"George? Jealous? What would he have to be jealous for?" you asked.
"Cedric obviously. He fancies you, you know." Beau said.
"Annddd so does George, which of course, you already know, just won't admit." Beth added.
You ignored her like you always do. You didn't know for sure, you're not even sure if you fancy George back.
Who are you kidding (yourself really).
"Before you all go," Professor Flitwick began at the end of Charms class, "I have something that I need to announce to you all." he said. Everyone stopped packing their books, "Right now uh towards the end of this month, the Yule Ball, which is in fact a dance, will take place. It has been a tradition of the Triwizard Tournament and an opportunity for us to socialize with our foreign guest."
The girls in the class started whispering excitedly, while the guys grumbled at the notion of a dance.
"The ball will be open to fourth years and above. Students from three and below can be invited but will have to get special permission from their head of house." Flitwick mention. The bell rang and everyone resume their packing and started to file out. "Oh um ladies, you'll need formal dress and fellas you'll need dress robes!"
Walking to your next class when you notice Beth and Beau weren't beside you, but rather behind.
"This is the perfect opportunity to get them together." you head Beth whisper to Beau. You whipped around.
"What are you two planning?" you confronted them.
"Nothing." they both said simultaneously.
You gave them suspicious looks. "Right."
December 15th, 1994
It's been half a month already and the school was divided once more. Split right down the middle between boys and girls. Finding a date to the Yule Ball became a race to some.
George Weasley has spent the last week and a half trying to muster up the courage to ask you to the Yule Ball. Your friends/dorm mates, had cornered him in the hallway just the other day about it.
"Uh…can I help you guys?" he asked the two.
"No, but we can help you…" Beau said.
"Listen, everyone is pretty tired watching the two of you dance around each other." Beth stated.
"It's been four year and neither of you have made a move." Beau adds.
George felt his face get hot, "Is it that obvious that I like her?"
"To everyone expect her, but…she's also been giving signs back that you haven't picked up on either, so you're both useless." Beth claims.
"I mean-" George couldn't lie, last year and this past summer he's felt as if things were changing between you and him. "I don't want to ruin our friendship."
Beau lets out a groan, "Just ask her to the ball."
"We are…at least I think we are…." George confessed.
Beth mumble something under her breath that George couldn't make out.
"No, you have to do this the proper way, ask her to the ball, George."
The two of you would have your usual hangs out, nothing that wasn't normal. Expect for the constant butterflies in his stomach now.
Did you really like him back? This suddenly became very real to him. He's just suppose to ask you to the ball. It was a simple question, so…why was it so hard to ask?
"George." your voice draws him out of thought.
You both were sitting in his room, on the floor with blankets and the heater in the middle going. The bed was in fact big enough to house both of you, however; George knew that you prefer to sit on the floor for whatever reason.
"Did you hear what I said?" you asked him.
"No…no sorry, love." George said. Suddenly that nickname, love, has a weight to it.
You had your feet prop up on his bed and your hair was splay out in a way that George could only describe has a fan like shape.
"I was talking about Moody? He gives me a weird vibe." you retell him.
"Well they call him 'mad' for a reason." he explains.
"I know, but I can't just shake this feeling." You turn your head to look at him. George see you furrow your eyebrows before sitting up. "Alright, what's up with you. You're usually more engaged in our conversation."
"I know, I just…have a lot on my mind I guess." George told you.
'Now ask her now, you knitwit.' he thinks.
He's fighting with himself in his head and he is forever thankful that you can't read minds or maybe you can. The way you were looking at him currently makes it seem that you can hear his thoughts as he thinks them.
You sigh, "Alright what did you and Fred do?"
"What? Oh no…we haven't done anything….promise."
"Then say what's on your mind. I can practically see the gears turning."
George is looking at you and he can't bring himself to say what he need to say. He can hear Fred teasing him already. Hear Beth and Beau groan in frustration…again.
"It's almost time for fifth period, we should get going." He said as he got up from the floor.
He goes to offer his hands to you help you up, but your just looking at him. You, yourself, want to interrogate him, but that would just make you a hypocrite wouldn't it. You grab his hands and George pulls you up. He takes his hands away form you like you've burn him and grabs his bag and walks out the door.
You follow after him after grabbing your own bag. This is weird…this is awkward, things have never been awkward between you two.
After class, George told Fred all about what happen during free period.
"You're pathetic." Fred simply said. "And hopeless it seems." George sighs in defeat knowing he would not get any sympathy. "I don't get it, you've been talking and hanging around just fine for years and now suddenly asking her a simple question is too much for you? It's not like you're actually telling her you like her…not yet at least. You're thinking too much into it."
George lets out a groan.
"Hey George!" a voice called from behind.
Fred and George both turned around to find Cedric walking up to them. He seemed nervous, but not as nervous as he was before the first task.
"Do you have a moment?" Cedric asked George. George just nods and steps over to the side of the hallway to get out of people's way. "So um…" Cedric was hesitant, "What's the deal with you and Y/N?" he asked.
George was confused, "What?"
"You two are very close, so I was just wondering if there was anything-"
George spoke before his brain even process, "We're just friends." Inside George screamed at him self because why in Godric's name did he say that?
Cedric looked slightly surprise, "Really? So it would be alright if I asked her to the ball yeah?"
George froze, 'No it would not be alright' is what he wanted to say, but can't bring himself too.
Fred steps in and throws an arm around his brother's shoulder. "Of course you can, mate. No one better than a bloke like you." George whipped his head.
"Okay yeah, thanks. I'll see you guys around." Cedric said before happily walking away.
George shoved his brother, "What the hell, Fred?! Why would you say that?"
"Why did you say that you and Greenie were just friends?" Fred counter.
"I don't know…I- I panic!" George exclaimed.
"Like I said helpless. You now have a limited window, ask her before Cedric swoops in and steals your girl." Fred said before leaving his brother to stand in the hallway.
December 17th, 1994
The Yule Ball was getting closer and closer. This weekend was a Hogsmeade trip, so Beth and Beau drag to shop for accessories, which you were still very up in arms about.
You technically still didn't have a proper date as Beth says. You assume that you would just have George as your 'date', but Beth said that he needed to ask you properly, like she had her boyfriend, Ryan, do. It's been weeks now though and George hasn't mention anything about the Yule Ball at all.
Ron and Harry, however; were in a similar boat give or take. They couldn't find dates at all and almost everyone in Hogwarts seem to be taken now. Hermione wasn't having the same problem as they boys. As Viktor Krum had asked her to be his date a couple of days ago. You weren't surprise in the slightest, the boy had been eyeing her since the first task. Though happy about being ask, you could tell that there was still something up.
Back to the present, you were sitting with Harry at lunch and his eyes kept looking behind you seemly distracted from the conversation you were trying to have with him. Why was everyone so distracted these days?
"Harry!" you say snapping your fingers at him.
His green eyes snap back to your eyes, "Hmm sorry."
"What are you looking at…or should I be asking who?" you say narrowing your eyes at him.
"I wasn't looking at anything…" he says as his eyes keep going behind you.
You turn your head around to try and see what or who Harry could possibly be staring at. Smiling and staring in your direction was a group of Ravenclaw girls. One of the girls you knew to be Cho Chang, the seeker for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. You turn your head back slowly and could help, but give the boy a teasing look.
"Cho Chang?" you question.
Harry looked like a deer caught in headlights, "No…" he answered. You gave him a look to which Harry sighs, "Okay…yeah."
"Well what are you waiting for?"
"I don't know, I just get scare and I can never get her alone…"
"Well…I just happen to know that she goes to the owlery ever other Saturday right before dinner." you tell him.
Harry perks up, "Really?"
"Really." you say giving him a wink.
With the majority of the castle staying back this holiday, some teachers, like Snape and Moody, thought it would be amazing if they assigned homework…tons of it. So you find yourself in the library once more.
You round a bookshelf when you bump into Cedric. His hands come to steady you and a imagine of him laying on the grass staring lifeless flashes before you. It makes you freeze.
"Woah, sorry. I wasn't expecting you to just come around the corner like that." he says, completely unaware.
"No, I didn't see you there." you say trying to shake the horrors from your head.
"Um hey…while I have you here…can I ask you something?" He asked. You didn't give him a verbal answer, just a reaction that told him to proceed. "I was hoping maybe you would like to come to the ball with me?"
Oh. You take in his question. Technically speaking you were available, George hadn't asked you to go with him. Surely he would if he liked you more than a friend like the girls said…right, but maybe your second sight keeps showing you Cedric's death as a warning. What if it's giving you the chance to possibly save him?
Cedric spoke when you were quiet for too long, "Unless someone asked you already that is…"
"No! I mean…yes." you say abruptly. "I mean…I would love to go to the ball with you, Cedric." you say more calmly.
December 24th, 1994
The fall term had long ended and the castle had been decked out even more than usual for the Yule (or Christmas) festivities. The castle seem to be turned into a ice wonderland compare to the forest greenery that it normally is.
The twins new invention, Canary Creams, which upon eaten would turn the consumer into a canary, were a great success. The first few days of holiday break, people were bursting into feather all over the place. You, along with the whole of Gryffindor house, have long since learned not to accept anything from those two.
The news of you and Cedric going to the ball together had gotten out.
"What and you said yes?" Beth asked.
"I would have felt bad if I said no…" It was the half truth, but they couldn't know the full reason as to why you agreed.
"What about George?" Beau asked.
"What about George? He never once brought up the ball. I think you guys just might be seeing things…" you say.
"Are we? Your reaction tells us plenty." Beth states.
A present was sent to you from Remus. It was small and had a note attached to it.
You open the present and saw the album in question. It was filled with photos taken from when you were a baby. They were taken with a muggle camera as none of them moved, expect for one.
There in the photo was a younger Remus and you, you can't tell how old you were there, but you had a pacifier in your mouth. Remus is holding you up, face squished into the side of yours, and you are waving to the camera. Assuming that your mother was on the other side.
You see the resembles of younger Remus and you now was a bit uncanny. All your life you though maybe you looked too much like your mother that your gran wouldn't even look at your without being reminded. Now you see maybe that wasn't the case and it was for a different reason entirely.
You didn't notice the tears until Beth said something and soon all three of your dorm mates were on the bed with you looking at baby photos.
"Young Professor Lupin was even hotter." Haley said.
"Haley!" you exclaimed.
"What, everyone was thinking it!" Haley defended.
Later the evening, when everyone was getting the for the ball, you had shown the album to Daphne.
"I've never seen a photo of her." Daphne said as she did your hair, referring to Diana, your mother. "I've always an imagine of what she might look like. It was mostly just you…older." That made you laugh.
Beth was helping Hermione with make-up. The young girl was almost unrecognizable. Her normally frizzy curls were now defined and in an up-do, her front teeth were shrunken down after an incident with Malfoy, and she wore a pretty blue color dress that matched nicely with her skin tone.
When it was time to leave, Cedric was down in the common room waiting for you. He wore a classic dress robes and he had cut his hair a little, though it still had that fluffy look to it. He smiled at you and offered his hand to help you down the rest of the stairs.
"You look beautiful." he told you.
You smiled politely at the comment, though you wish you were hearing it from someone else.
"You don't clean up to bad yourself, Diggory." you quip.
You notice for the first time since the World Cup, that there wasn't any warning when you touched Cedric's hand. The lingering feeling was there, but it wasn't sickening like all the other times.
The entrance hall was pack with students. It was overwhelming, honestly, but you reminded yourself that this wasn't like the Yule Balls hosted by Pure-blood nobility, but the gossip was all the same no made where.
"Are you alright?" Cedric asked using his other hand to squeeze the one that was wrapped around his arm.
"Oh…yes. I'm fine, I don't really like crowds or…balls in general." you say.
"Yeah I notice." Cedric said, which make you give him a questioning look, "Last Yule, the ball hosted by the Notts. I saw you."
"Why didn't you say anything? Could've used a familiar face. One that I liked anyways." you commented.
The conversation was interrupted by Professor McGonagall.
"There you are Mr. Diggory— oh Miss Greengrass…" she was shocked to see you standing there, but fixed her reaction real quick. "Are the two of you ready?"
"I'm sorry for what exactly…" you asked.
"Why to dance of course. It's traditional that the champions are the first to dance." McGonagall informed.
Your eyes grew, "Oh no, no." you said while shaking your head, "I don't dance."
"Well you are most certainly are tonight." McGonagall left no room for an argument.
She guided you and Cedric to stand near the doors to the Great Hall. Fleur was standing there with Roger Davies, the Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain. Also near you was Harry and Cho and Krum had arrived with Hermione by his side. Harry's reaction to seeing Hermione was priceless. You watch him do a triple take before he finally realize it was her.
"Now I need you all to line up in the procession, please." Professor McGonagall said to the group.
The procession was as followed: Fleur & Roger, Krum & Hermione, you & Cedric, and finally Harry & Cho.
The doors to the Hall opened once more. Students had made a path from the door and created a big circle outlining the Hall. At the top of the Hall was a large round table, where the judges for the tournament were sitting.
Everyone applaud as the champions walked in. Beth with Ryan and Beau with Erik were standing at the end of the stretch. George was there standing in the outer circle with Katie Bell. There was a longing look in his eyes. You could see it even from practically across the Hall.
You take your place on the dance floor with Cedric. His right hand on your waist and your left on his shoulder, clasping the other hands together. The dance was a waltz, you could handle a waltz. A few minutes of just the champions and their partners dancing, other started to join in. Like Dumbledore with McGonagall, and Karkaroff with the Ancient Runes professor.
When the waltz was over, you (along with the rest of the champion pairs) stood in front of the judges table and took note how all the judges were present expect for Barty Crouch, whose seat was instead taken by Percy Weasley.
The champions and their dates were to seat with the judges for the feast. There were open seats on either side of Percy, which you and Harry occupied. Cedric drew your chair out for you before taking a seat beside you.
Percy started a conversation with Harry about Mr. Crouch, you couldn't help but eaves drop in.
"I'm afraid to say Mr. Crouch isn't well. Hasn't been right since the World Cup. Hardly surprising — overworked." Percy informed.
Weird. To you, Barty Crouch seemed fine during Halloween and at the first task.
"Mr. Crouch suffered a huge personal shocked with the misbehavior of that house-elf of his — and then we had the tournament to arrange along with the aftermath of the Cup. There's that Skeeter woman buzzing around making a mess of things." Percy went on.
You tuned Percy out and tuned into Hermione's conversation with Viktor. Which you don't think you ever heard him talk this much…or ever for that matter.
"— though in the winter, we have very little day-light, so we are not enjoying them, but in summer…we are flying every day, over the lakes, the mountains —"
Conversations continued around the table. Dumbledore mention to Karkaroff about a room that seemly appear out of no where in the castle (they were talking about their respective castle's secrecy). You know what room Dumbledore was talking about as a room like that was mention many times in your mother's diary.
"Doing alright?" Cedric leaned over to ask.
You turned your attention to him. You've realize that you hadn't really been eating your food.
"Yeah, I'm fine." you said.
"A bit nerve racking yeah? Dancing in the middle of the room with a hundred eyes on you?"
"Probably not a nerve racking as fighting a dragon."
Cedric laughs, "No definitely not. Close second though."
"Speaking of tasks, have you figure out the clue to the second?" you asked.
"Oh yes actually, I figured it out weeks ago. I think it's going to take place at the Black Lake."
That made you stomach twist. You saw a glimpse of the lake during your…incident. That means the Triwizard Cup in the hedges must be the third task, but last time you check. There weren't any graveyards near Hogwarts.
"Why did you enter the tournament?" you asked.
Cedric took a moment to answer, "I think I just wanted to prove myself I guess."
"But the high death count…that didn't scare you?"
"It did…but I when I told my dad that I was going to enter…I never seen him so proud, so I just swallowed the fear down."
Listening to him talk made the sinking feeling come back ten fold. Doomed — Cedric knew that if he enter there was a possibility that he could die.
"Can I ask you about your scar and what happen with Sirius Black last year?" he asked.
"Not much to say, I was just trying to stop Harry. Get him and the other two to go back inside, ran into Professor Lupin on his way to where ever he went to transform, but he didn't make it in time. Got attack trying to help him." you say.
"And what about Sirius Black."
"I don't really remember, side affect of the confundus charm."
There was no point in trying to explain what really happen, not without revealing your abilities.
You find similarity to each other as you continue to talk. Learning that Cedric wasn't at all what people think. You tell him what you can about yourself, painting the perfect picture about a life that truly was a facade. You learned that he had a younger sister, Cordelia, she was eight.
When the everyone was pretty much done eating, Dumbledore waved his wand around to reveal the stage that was being hidden behind a curtain that blended well with the decorations. On the stage were several instruments; a set of drums, guitars, a lute, a cello, and some bagpipes.
The Weird Sisters, a famous pop punk/rock wizard band, hopped up onto the stage. Students started to go crazy, well the ones that were raised in the wizarding world, muggle-borns and some half-blood were giving odd looks.
Your jaw dropped, "No way!"
"I take it your a fan?" Cedric laughed.
"My 'big sibling' was the biggest Weird Sisters fan. If she were here right now, she would go ballistic." you said.
"You had a big sibling in first year?"
A 'big sibling' or 'badger sibling' was when a seventh year Hufflepuff student 'adopted' a first year Hufflepuff student and act as there mentor figure or big sibling if you will.
The Weird Sisters started to play 'Do The Hippogriff'
"Are you all ready to rock!" the lead singer yelled out.
The lights in the Hall dim and colorful ones came on instead. Excited to hear your favorite song, you grabbed Cedric and dragged him to the crowd.
"Move your body like a hairy troll…learning to rock and roll."
Everyone was more jumping to the beat than dancing. Cedric's buddies had found you guys amongst the people and pulled you in deeper to the crowd where there was barely any room to put your hands down. Professor Flitwick was seen crowd surfing, wether it was consensual or not, none of the other professors seem to put a stop to it.
You can spot Hermione letting loose and dancing with Krum. It was probably the happiest you've seen her in a while. Next to her though was George, who was bopping his head to the music kind of into it. You can somewhat see Katie Bell trying to get him more into it.
Your attention was pull back when someone grabbed your chin forcing you to look away, it was Beth. She took your hands and whirl you around, effortlessly distracting you.
After two songs, the band took a moment to catch their breath. You scan the room again, something you can't help but do. Spotting Ludo Bagman, who was just slow dancing with Professor McGonagall, being corner by the twins. Ludo, the dodgy man that he his, shook them off quickly The twins looked annoyed as ever. They spoke to each other for a moment before parting ways. Fred went back to Angelina and George went towards the exit.
"Hey…" you say to Cedric as the next song started to play. He gives you his undivided attention, leaning in closer to you so you didn't have to yell over the loud music. "I'm getting overheated, I'm going to step outside for a few."
Cedric nods, "You want me to come with you?"
You shake your head, "I'll just be a few."
The entrance hall was cold and had a dusting of snow that came in through the front doors. Out in the lawn the center garden was twinkling with fairy lights. Outside seem to be where students went to make out as you pass multiple couples practically devouring each other's faces on the benches.
You found George up on the guards wall that went around the perimeter of the lawn.
"You know Bagman isn't going to give you your winnings, he's con man." you say. George whips around at the sound of your voice.
George had been practicing what he wanted to say to you, but now that you were in front of him, he's forgotten. He couldn't stop looking at you and Cedric the whole time at the ball. Only time he manage to have a little fun was when Katie was threatening him too. He hated how Cedric made you laugh, your real laugh not the fake one you give most people. He hated that he was even jealous.
"I know, but I don't think Fred wants to admit that you were right." George responds.
"Why have you've been ignoring me?" you ask softly.
"I haven't I just…been busy with joke shop ideas…" George replied.
"Please don't lie to me, George."
George looked down at his feet before looking back at you, "Because I was mad at myself."
Your face scrunches, "What?"
'Because I'm in love with you?' he screams in his head.
"I-" George stop what he was going to say, "Why did you agree to go with Diggory to the ball?"
'"It's complicated." you said, 'Because you didn't ask.' you thought.
"Why are you being so secretive lately? Why won't you talk about what happen on Halloween?" George asked.
"Because I— wait hold on, don't try to flip the conversation onto me." you argue.
George goes quiet. He doesn't want to argue with you. He wants to get over himself and you to be honest with yourself.
"You should get back to your date." It comes out more angry than he wanted it to.
You don't know where the sudden anger came from. If he was angry about you going to the ball with Cedric than he should have asked you instead. Maybe you should have made it obvious that you wanted to be ask. Why did you have to listen to Beth? Maybe because a part of you wanted her words to be true. That George Weasley liked you more than a friend.
"Good night, George." you say to him before walking back down the stairs and towards the entrance.
You were about to head back inside when you heard voices coming from between the carriages that were parked.
"It's happening again like before and soon, neither you or any one else will be able to deny it."
That was Karkaroff's voice.
"I already told you, Igor. I see no reason to discuss it…"
And that was Snape's. The two were paroling the area for any…activity. You watch as Snape runs up to a carriage and bust open the door. Alexander Fawcett and Crystal Stebbins emerge from the carriage.
"You cannot pretend this isn't happening, Severus." Karkaroff said once they were out of ear shot, "It's been getting clearer and clearer for months."
"I don't know what you're talking about…" responds Snape.
"Really? Then you don't mind…rolling up your sleeve." Karkaroff goes for Snape's arm, but Snape dodges. "You don't fool me, Severus. You are scared, admit it."
"I have nothing to be scared of, Igor. Can you say the same?"
Karkaoff glares at Snape before walking off. You hid yourself behind a pillar. When you heard footstep draw further, you peak out only to catch someone doing the same thing you were.
Professor Moody was on the other side of the rows of carriages. You saw him, so he must have seen you.
"There you are." a voice behind you said.
You jumped and let out a small gasp. Sighing when you saw that it was only Cedric.
"Sorry I–" you looked back at the carriages, "I got sidetracked."
"You're shivering." Were you? You didn't even notice. Cedric shed his outer layer and draped it over you. You wrap it more around you and Cedric guides you back inside.
The Weird Sisters were playing one last slow song before officially calling it a night. The Great Hall was practically empty, only have a hand full of couples still dancing, you among them.
When you and Cedric walked out of the Great Hall and into the entrance hall, he paused as he spotted Harry and Cho going up the stairs that would lead to their respective towers. Cedric turned to you and mouth 'one sec' before running up to the Gryffindor boy.
"Hey Harry!" he called out, "Listen…" he spoke more quietly, "I owe you one for telling me about the dragons. Your egg does it wail when you open it?"
"Yeah…"
"You know the Prefects' bathroom on the fifth floor?" Harry nods, "It's not a bad place for a bath." Harry looked confused, "Just take your egg and mull things over…just trust me. Oh and the password is 'pine fresh'."
Cedric returns to you and you give him a smile.
"Thank you." you tell him.
"He told me about the dragons, it was the least I could do. I would have done the same if I learn about them first. He's only a kid." Cedric said.
'So are we.' you thought.
Cedric offered his arm again, "Shall we?"
"I actually have to do some damage control, but I had fun…truly." you tell him.
Cedric didn't question you, just nods his head in understanding and then leaned in to give you a kiss on the cheek. He said your name with a good night then walked down the steps towards the common room.
You stood there a little stunned. What a cruel thing, leading Cedric on. Even if you don't mean too.
"…Doubt it, he's way too old…" Ron's voice cuts through the silence.
Remembering why you stayed behind, you turn on your heel.
"What?! So that's what you think?" Hermione voiced.
"Yeah, that's what I think."
You see Harry on the steps next to you. He stop his quest of bring Cho back to her house to deal with his two best friends.
"Well, you know the solution, then, don't you?" Hermione yelled.
"Go on?" Ron egged her on.
"Next time there's a ball, pluck up the courage to ask me before someone else does and not as a last resort!" you could hear her voice beginning to break.
"Well…" Ron sputtered, "I mean, that's just completely off the point."
'Oh Ron.' you think.
Hermione's face twists in anger, "Off to bed, both of you!" she yells at both Ron and Harry.
Complying, Ron joins Harry on the stairs. Harry grabs Ron by the shoulder ruffly.
"They get scary when they get older." Ron comments to Harry.
Hermione whips her head around so fast that you almost didn't have time to process the comment Ron made.
"Ron, you spoiled everything!" cries Hermione before she fully breaks down on the stairs.
Harry starts dragging Ron up the stairs more, whispering to him trying to figure out what the argument was about. You go and sit next to a crying Hermione on the steps. She leans into you, crying into your shoulder.
"Why are boys so stupid?" she says as she takes her heels off. Your shoes were long forgone off your feet.
"Afraid I don't have the answer to that one." you tell her.
You think back on tonight. It was relatively the most normally night you've have in a while, but what was up with Karkaroff and Snape? What was happening like before? A problem for another day, perhaps. You have a crying Hermione to deal with.
"Come one, you can sleep with me tonight." you tell her, grabbing her heels and yours before making your way to the Hufflepuff common room.
