I may need to rewatch the episode for some clearer details so this could be nothingburger, but it’s interesting to me how this episode almost sets up Miyako and Viola as parallels. Like. Okay, maybe this was just Viola doing her research on Miyako as per her stalker tendencies but I think her conversation with Miyako is one of the most genuine times she’s spoken this entire show.

She hates what she can’t have. But if she can own it she loves it.

Match this with what she said about not having a shining radiance (whereas Arale has been said several times by Ritsu to be “sparkly” or “shining”) then this explains a lot of her behaviors. I don’t think this is her exaggerating or lying; I think this is the most truthful we’ve seen her be so far.

In fact it makes me think that her obsession with Ritsu was actually just a byproduct of her hatred for Arale. It dulls Arale’s shine, and gives her something she can “own.”

okay so how does this make her a parallel to Miyako?

Easy.

Miyako has been shown to have a dislike for “bright chads” or people with more optimistic attitudes. She’s the complete opposite after all. She’s not naturally cheerful, she has to force herself into a motivated state. She believes herself to be a loser. So, similarly to Viola, since she can’t have the same happy-go-lucky view of life as people with that kind of personality, she “can’t stand them.” She can’t have it, so she hates it.

But what about her plushie corner? Plushes are things that can create joy, not unlike a person who naturally brightens up a room. But plushies are things she can own. And so she loves them.

The difference lies in how the two approach this mindset. Viola acts upon it, taking steps to own the things she can and taking revenge on those she can’t. Miyako, on the other hand, is naturally inactive. She sort of just lets it happen. In fact, she doesn’t make much protest when Arale and Nono-chan interact with her, despite her claim that she “can’t stand them.”

It’s interesting to see two characters approach the same mindset in seemingly completely opposite ways. Though I don’t want to see how far Viola is willing to go to get her way…

n25 is not heading towards disbandment. they are healing and moving forward, all thanks to each other's support. they are now able to find solace and hope in the real world outside their nightcord chat room and sekai. but none of that means they have to separate. quite the contrary in fact.

they are heading towards a future where they can come together not just at 25:00 but in the morning light too. and that's a good thing.

or it will be. except one of them isn't ready. one of them doesn't know what will become of her once the sun rises on their group- the only one whose name means nighttime.
