Praying to the Lord above,
Because the first night without him,
Was always going to be the hardest,
But I could never have known,
It would feel like it does now,
So now I write my prayers down,
And they sound something like this,
Give him the words that I can’t say,
Be the voice he needs to hear,
At the end of each and every day,
Be the light that casts his shadows,
Adrift - let him know that he is missed,
When he gets lost - be his guide,
Something else but cigarettes,
Until his tears have finally dried,
Hold him like you love him,
And please don’t ever let him go,
The clarity to sort through his past,
The wisdom to know the difference,
The strength to make it last,
And if his heart is ever breaking,
Give him mine - even if it’s all I have,
And don’t take anything away,
Remind him of his greatest rewards,
When failure casts his skies to grey,
Let him know that he has purpose,
Even if he loses sight - give him light,
Lift his voice and hear him sing,
And give him lyrics for the melodies,
His beautiful ears will want to hear,
Let him know that when the day is over,
That he is loved and you are near,
Through the pain and through the rain,
Please bring him to the other side of it,
He deserves to sleep in peace tonight,
And every night for the rest of his life,
Let him know that he is not alone,
That we are underneath the same sky,
He’ll always have a home in my heart,
And that I will love him until the day I die,
