my character design final, the great dogsby? the great dane gatsby? I wish there was a better pun that could be made

gatsby taking nick out on a boat really late at night and it ends up being really romantic. there's the most perfect lighting from the moon and the stars.

it's pretty quiet and they're all by themselves. they stay out talking until they've run out of things to say.

then they end up just gazing deeply into each other's eyes. nick's heart skips a beat and he starts to feel shy, looking away but still facing gatsby.

gatsby's still looking at him, noticing little things about nick and seeing him in a way he never had before.

and then gatsby realizes:

I do believe that Gatsby always loved Nick, he just couldn’t recognize it because he felt so different about Nick than he did about Daisy. He THOUGHT he loved Daisy, but it was actually just obsession and infatuation. Meanwhile he actually did love Nick right from the start but the problem is he honestly didn’t know what love really is. He thought his feelings towards Nick were just friendship.

He’d always invite Nick to hang out with (aka third wheel) him and Daisy and he told himself it was just for support. He didn’t realize it was because he truly loved spending time with Nick. He told himself that Nick made everything less stressful just because of how good he was at remaining in the background and how much of a supporter he was, but in fact it was because he loved him.

He’d always feel so happy when he spent time alone with just Nick and he attributed it to how grateful he was to Nick because this was the man who got him back with Daisy. Truthfully, he felt happy whenever he saw Nick because of his strong feelings towards him.

Of course, he doesn’t realize his actual feelings towards Nick, and therefore Nick spends his life thinking the love is unrequited.

(Unless there is a way to make this end happily…..)
