If a girl tells you to stop calling her by masculine terms such as “guy” “dude” and “bro” . You stop. Don’t give a half assed apology and expect her to just take that apology and just forgive you. You just stop. Respect her boundaries and treat her like the person and woman she is.
I'm ngl it kinda kills me that the thing that is killing Hank Green and making him go through mass cancellation is him saying that he sometimes uses AI for research.
Like not the horrible video on hrt, no of course not. Loudly and proudly declaring "we don't hire transfems here at scishow"? Nobody gives a shit!
But say "i used Claude as a search engine for academic articles" and every creator on youtube takes turns shitting you as you go into fucking witness protection.
There is a connection here with that post I saw the other day about how being performatively anti-AI can be a way to loudly declare one's commitment to "good values" without actually having to care about uplifting any marginalized communities
Damn, they announced they don't hire trans women? Was it in the video they took down?
In the video that was eventually taken down, after they finish the transfem hrt section, they segue into the transmasc hrt section by saying "and now for the part our writing team actually has experience with"
straight white people making a romance movie: haha what if it was illegal to have sex? wait what's lawrence v texas. wait what's mclaughlin v florida. wait what's loving v virginia
i have for a while been using stepping on somebody's toes as a metaphor for misgendering. and i genuinely think that it's kind of a good one.
if you keep stepping on somebody's toes for a long time at minimum they're probably going to start really hating you and at maximum you might cause them lasting damage.
if you do it on purpose you're a dick. if it's on accident but you keep doing it that person is still going to be mad at you because you don't care enough to try not to step on their toes
if you give a grovelling begging apology after accidentally stepping on somebody's toes one time you're going to make the whole thing awkward, but not giving a quick "sorry" before moving on is still kind of rude.
just witnessed something devastating
guy on the subway with one ear pierced, little gold hoop. other guy on the subway very quickly and subtly googling "which one is the gay ear". it is not the gay ear. visible disappointment on his face as he puts his phone away.
lying about/exaggerating trauma is a sign of SEVERE NEGLECT. Wishing your trauma was worse is also a sign of SEVERE NEGLECT. Just that you're having thoughts about wanting to be abused proves you WERE. No non-abused person looks for attention, because they don't need it. The idea that looking for attention is a moral failing on your part actively supports abusers, demonizes victims, and prevents recovery for both.
People with violent and aggressive tendencies deserve proper medical care
People with active addictions deserve proper medical care
People with factitious disorder deserve proper medical care
People with personality disorders deserve proper medical care
People with severe health anxiety or “hypochodria” deserve proper medical care
People with criminal records deserve proper medical care
People with schizospec disorders deserve proper medical care
Everyone deserves access to proper, non-judgmental, and reliable healthcare. No condition or struggle should change that.
with love. you have to fact check shit. yes you. you still have to fact check shit. a lot of people are great at fact checking stuff they don’t want to be true, but somehow are still absolute ass at fact checking stuff that’s rhetorically convenient to them. even people my age, who I KNOW grew up doing internet/bibliography literacy workshops, and being warned not to believe anything that isn’t reliably sourced, people who DO harp on fact checking conservative output or whatever, are still kneejerk sharing unsourced shit that is partially or wholly untrue or misleading, because it suits whatever narrative they’re pursuing in that moment, without even a “take this with a grain of salt”. fact check!!!!!! look at the sources!!!!! yes it’s a drag!!! do it!!!!!
being a bitch actually saves you a lot of time
they’ll think you’re a bitch anyway for having some reasonable boundary so you might as well just be a bitch sometimes and save yourself the trouble, the time, the energy, the money, etc
It's nuts how common it is to not allow children to be angry, even (especially) in households where adults are angry all the time. As a child I knew my own anger was unacceptable--not just expressing it outwardly but feeling it at all. So now as an adult my immediate reaction to my own anger is often to feel guilt instead of like. Noticing when someone is being rude or unfair or my boundaries are being violated or whatever. fucked up.
idk who needs to hear this but it’s healthier for you to just accept that you’re gonna be kinda fat than it is to live the rest of your life miserably trying to monitor yourself to maintain a skinny weight your body doesn’t want to hold onto
fuck it’s august??? what’s next? 2022???? can’t do this anymore
Petty vent, but one thing that really bothers me is USAmerican Greek Life - like, in the college sorority/fraternity sense. I know it's first world problems, but they never pronounce the letters correctly, which pisses me off. Also, in my personal experience, it made it difficult to find actual Greek-culture related clubs or societies on campus. Groups like that are often INUNDATED with alcohol/drug abuse, heteronormativity, transphobia, rape culture, racism, etc (Alabama, yes THEEE Alabama, one of the biggest "Greek" life colleges in the country, the one that goes goes viral every year with their rushes! didn't desegregate until 2013!) Which are all WAY more serious problems than the bastardization of the Greek language, of course! But I do think the issues are sort of related, because when USAmericans pretty much only know the Greek language because of sororities/frats, that is a TERRIBLE way to introduce it said language to someone, ugh.
(I know there's the historically Black/Latino/Latina/Asian, Multicultural, and honor societies that also use Greek letters. I don't know much about those, so I'm talking about the historically white ones that are basically known for parties and high dues/membership fees LOL)
I honestly don't know if I'd go as far as describing it as racism, but I definitely understand why some people think it is. Idk your familiarity with it or if you've posted about it before, but it really does irk me.
Ah, yes I have something against "Greek life" and it's exactly the issues you mentioned. I believe that if you search my tag #greek life you will probably find my thoughts on that. The whole thing is a bad mix of frat life, priviledge, and the commodification of Greek life coming from 19th-century dandies. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. They call themselves thus because they supposedly embody the ancient Greek values. But at the same time, they ignore the existence of real Greece and Greeks - as their colonizing progenitors intended.
Love it when you do a quiz and it’s obvious what the answers correlate to. U know what I mean. The quiz will be like… r u a mermaid or a vampire… and the questions are like
Do u like the ocean

2. It’s ok
3. Not a fan of the ocean
4. Fuck the ocean unless it’s made of blood which btw I love to drink
And she wonders why people hate her?
