STARTER FOR; @kylelcpez
The Jeep came to a shuddering halt outside the familiar house, a few miles out of town in Cobblepoint, a place she had grown more familiar with over the past few years when she would drop Ava off to spend time with her father. When Nicola had chosen to settle in River Heights, near the water and the bustling business of downtown, Kyle had chosen Cobblepoint which allowed for their daughter to experience the best of both worlds. Once she had put the car in park, her daughter opened the passenger seat door and hopped out of the car, grabbing her backpack and racing across the front yard towards the door. Ava had told her that she had tons of homework to do, but Nicola knew that it was code for ‘talking to the cute boy from history class.’ She didn’t pry or question it, she knew what it was like to be that age; first crush, first love, first kiss, she had experienced it all. She just wished it wasn’t happening so soon. It was almost as if she had blinked and was instantly greeted by a twelve-year-old who wanted to wear make-up and frequent Starbucks and have alone time --- whatever the hell that meant.
Nicola got out of the car and made her way towards the house, the front door unlocked as she pushed it open and set down her car keys on the mantle. She’d always chosen to make herself at home in Kyle’s house; a certain sense of familiarity greeting her as she stepped inside. They shared a child, they were family. “Kyle? Are you in the kitchen?” Nicola called out, seeing Ava’s backpack abandoned on the entryway floor as she moved towards the kitchen but only silence greeted her. She pulled open the refrigerator, scanning the contents inside and cursing under her breath at the fact that he didn’t have her soda of preference. The audacity. Then, the sound of footsteps approached and she turned to glare at him. “You’re out of Mountain Dew.” Nicola pouted, taking two bottled waters instead and offering one to Kyle. “So… I’m thinking of getting another tattoo, adding to my sleeve. The WAP lyrics---” she said, twisting the cap off her water and taking a sip. “I just need to decide which lyrics and what font, so Sera can do it.” She watched for Kyle’s reaction, an innocent gleam in her dark brown eyes.
