A smile formed upon Evie’s lips. What an interesting man. “Yes. That’s the way the world works though isn’t it. History is written by the victors.” When Nico said not to get emotional, Evie let out a gorgeous titter. “Trust me, I’m not emotional. Until you hear me speak in Spanish, I’m not emotional.” It was a habit she picked up from her mother; as she grew up in a bi-lingual household. “Just until a moment ago, you thought there was no such thing as fairytales. So I wouldn’t count out luck just yet.” The smile on her face widened when he described killing the man. It seemed as perchance as if they could get along. It was only when Evie found out whom the man was, that her smile turned into a frown. “John? Oh dear, that makes things a bit…awkward. I’m afraid I’d have to stand in the way of you hurting him. As you see he has agreed to mentor me. He was impressed with my lineage…I enjoy his field of study and his terrible personality.”

The same thought crossed his mind; she was interesting alright, maybe a bit cocky, but he met lots like her. A girl with such lineage, she probably earned the right to be so by her peers. Besides, her views were interesting themselves, and he laughed when she mentioned her speaking Spanish. “I’ll keep that in mind. And luck? I don’t know, fairytales and different planes of existence are true, but luck is a hard lie for me to swallow. Tell me, how many times did luck save your skin? Can you count on it? Or will you just sit there, waiting for it to somehow make everything better for you?” The conversation took an entirely different turn; of course John got to her first, and what he had promised sure got a reaction out from him. “Oh, did he now? Did dear Johnny ever mentioned who his own mentor was? You’re looking right at him. That coat he’s wearing? Take a wild guess who it belonged to. I wonder, why the sudden interest to be a mentor.. teaching was never his strong element.” Despite his fake, calm demeanor, fists were clenched.

“The most dangerous monsters are the most beautiful…” Evie bat eyelashes that were immaculately curled. “The very one. Yes, my mother died. Don’t bring up cliffs or dwarfs around the woman. Very touchy about the subject. The heroes thought death was too good for my mother. So they brought her back from death so she could suffer…I was born after she was resurrected. Born to suffer with her… Trust me, because our condemnation was shared with Lord Hades himself…I went to school his kid. So consider yourself lucky. There are some fates worse than the Underworld.” Though Evie looked delicate and sweet she had lead a life of anguish and did not under some complaints. At least he was allowed to die. Not everyone was so lucky. That sounded familiar though, she knew someone who could send people to hell. She wasn’t sure if that was a common ability. “Who’s your friend? That sounds like ever so much fun. Are you going to get your revenge?”

“Can’t disagree with that“, he agreed, with just one person coming in mind; both him and John were very much aware of Zee’s power. “Heroes? They call themselves that? What a load of bullshit - I don’t care much about what they did - eternal damnation is a good concept, but coming from so called ‘heroes’, the self proclaimed ‘good guys’? Makes me sick. Don’t you get too emotional with me here kid”, he huffed; he was keeping his calm thus far, but Nick wasn’t a man known for his patience or compassion anymore. Maybe he was that way briefly once, but everything had changed, his lust for power and desire to hunt down John and Zee changed him. “I would never call myself lucky, there’s no such thing as luck, especially when you don’t know in the circumstances of a stranger.” She seemed curious, but delving into details about his life wasn’t something that he wanted to do. “Killing him once won’t do it, I got a taste of what it feels like killing him, bringing him back and then killing him again - that felt good. Constantine, you might have bumped into him.”

“I swear some people around here think we’re all supposed to have warts on our noses and have green skin.” Evie’s almond eyes sparkled when he inquired about her potions, “Even with my powers stunted… There is little I can’t accomplish with my potions. It simply just won’t last as long or be as strong. . It isn’t a bit though. I’m the daughter of one of the most infamous witches in all of history, time, and space. My mother is The Evil Queen Grimhilde. Known for poisoning a terrible little rude princess named Snow White. You were right. There is magic in this mirror. It’s what’s left of my mother’s Magic Mirror. It is one of the most dangerous objects one can come in contact with. If you aren’t careful, it can drive you insane…“ Just like it drove her own mother crazy. ” I come from what other worlds consider a fairytale world. Now prey-tel what type of magic do you do, and what type of world do you come from?“

“It could be a good thing; let them believe in those fairytale stereotypes, they’ll be surprised when they realise what most of us look like“, he said with an almost smile. Nobody would guess what Zee really was if they went looking for a traditional witch. He couldn’t resist raising an eyebrow when she mentioned her heritage, completely contradicting what he had previously tried to say about people and fairytales. “Snow White? Like from the stories..? I suppose that this couldn’t be unheard of..So let me get this straight.. there’s no such fairytale in your world, and I guess we somehow heard of her and made her a story..she had a grim ending, didn’t she? At least in the version of her...biography that I know. What do you say...”, he trailed off, interested in the Mirror that she mentioned. “I come from Earth, I guess, even if I was snatched out of Hell to end up here”, he answered the question casually. “You see, a FRIEND of mine put me there, who also happens to be HERE, must be no coincidence if you ask me...And to answer your question, occult magic is my calling.”

His statement is concerning and makes little sense. Terrifying monster…? The Zora were predatory to be sure, but they’d long since given up their more aggressive behaviors in favor of keeping peace with surrounding peoples. 

“Tell me,” she begins curtly, tone even and polite, “Do you think everyone that appears different is some threat in disguise?”   

A polite one; that wasn’t a conversation much to his style, but it would have to do. The moment she spoke, he could tell that she was a female of whatever race she belonged to. The fact that she dismissed the monster and demon comment made him believe that she didn’t know what he was referring to.

“Considering that I ended up here just a few days ago - yes. That’s what I’m used to, especially if the residents look like...this“, he added, gesturing at her. “No offence.”

✡— Able to breathe once more – oxygen returned to his tar lined lungs, and he coughed a few times to clear his constricted air passage. Embers still danced in his palms, before he drew them back – knowing that he too had limited use of his fire abilities. 

“Other from burning you, I didn’t do fuckall, Nicky. You know… heh, this is pretty funny, innit. You used to be strong, now yer weak. Funny ‘ow the tables ‘ave turned, innit? Oh-ho-ho… This ain’t no con of mine, luv.”

The pain was nothing; he had dealt with worse in the past; under different circumstances it would have been EXCITING, circumstances where he didn’t want to slowly and painfully kill John. The fire disappeared, and he could tell that it didn’t entirely happened intentionally, John was also suffering from whatever got him in the first place as well.

“Say that again and I swear, I will choke you before you can burn me alive you piece of shit”, he growled. “Make yourself useful then, start by telling me what the hell is this place. I didn’t get pulled out from Hell to end up here with you.“

“The deal with me? And what does age have to do with it?” Evie stopped for a second, as she reluctantly looked up from her reflection. Yes, she used her powerful Magic Mirror; to check her lipstick. “I didn’t realize there was an age requirement to be an evil witch. Don’t tell me you believe that old stereotype? Not all witches are old haggard horrible old women. Though technically I could be if I wanted to. I have the potion for that.” She shook her head and smiled as she tucked a strand of cobalt hair behind her ear “ People from other worlds are so weird.”

“Stereotypes?Not at all, I know quite a few sorceress and magicians who are the most attractive women I’ve ever seen. So you need potions to shapeshift? I’ll be damned, I don’t know what this place is doing to MY magic, but shapeshifting seems to be the only thing that works right now. Not that it’s not helpful, but it’s making me pretty pissed off. What world are you from then? The whole evil witch bit got my attention.”

✡— Johns eyes set upon the other as his appearance changed – shifting to a woman that could merely glance his way to stop his heart from beating. They had been through tragedy together – she had broken his heart, he had broken hers — yet every time he peered into those eyes he was FLOORED by her. 

The better part of him knew that it was Nick behind this guise, but his heart was fighting against him. Fire continued to burn in his hands and he narrowed his eyes fiercely. 

“Zee don’t speak in third person, ye pretentious twat. If she were ‘ere– she’d be fighting WITH me against ya sorry arse!” 

He didn’t expect for John to suddenly back off; he was only testing his own abilities but also John’s, seeing just how powerful he seemed to be in that place. The fire burned brighter and warmer, and his own disguise fell through, not because he was in pain, but because of on an unknown cause. The shift was quick, and he was back in his own body soon enough.

Cursing, he let go of John’s neck, pushing him and his fiery hands away, rubbing his now injured wrists with a dark look in his eyes.

“What did YOU do to me? The magic in this place is weak, you’re not daring to fight me on equal grounds, no, you’re planning to con your way out of this one too, Johnny?!”
