Art Tells A Story, Let it Tell Yours: Live January 13, 2021 6PM
Art Possible Ohio and the ReelAbilities Film Festival Columbus present a screening of the film “Code of the Freaks.” Taking its title from Tod Browning’s classic film, this radical reframing of how characters with disabilities are represented looks at a century of Hollywood favorites with a fresh perspective. Disability activists imagine a cinematic landscape that takes people with disabilities seriously. Matt Swift, video artist and co-founder of the Columbus Moving Image Art Review, talks with Code of the Freaks director and producer, Salome Chasnoff and writer, Susan Nussbaum. Salome Chasnoff is a Chicago-based filmmaker, installation artist, and educator who is inspired by the enlightening, humanizing and healing capacities of storytelling. She works in documentary and experimental film, installation, participatory performance and social practice art. Susan Nussbaum is a playwright, novelist, and a long time disability rights activist. She won the 2012 PEN/Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction for her novel Good Kings Bad Kings.
