He really did give himself a minute to think it over, because it was a solid fifty-fifty either way in terms of his answer. “I mean I don’t hate it, but like-- circumstantially, y’know? There’s a point where teasing’s great, and there’s a point where it’s not. Both giving or receiving. I know I get impatient, so it wouldn’t be terribly long I could stand it, but I’m also not totally one to put someone else in that position, either? Sometimes it depends on the moment, too.”

“I had a crush on my ESL teacher when I was in second grade.” Nico let out a laugh, head shaking once. “It wasn’t like, a crush crush, y’know, but you know how little kids are. “I’ll be real, I kind of dance around it a little, but like.. purposefully.” Nico can think back on a handful of moments where he did exactly that; dropping a flirtatious comment, seeing how long he could stand closely in someone’s space before they took the hint, among other things. “After a little while, I’ll be up front about it, but typically it starts with a little bit of teasing, bantering around the subject. I start getting a little more touchy, too, I guess. Hand on a hip, easing them back against something.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Subtleties until that doesn’t cut it anymore, y’know?”

“At risk of sounding potentially self-serving, but--” Nico rolled his shoulders back with a thoughtful purse of his lips, figuring out his explanation as he went along.

“Hearing the way my name sounds during sex is one of my favorite parts?” A brow twitched upward, as if he were unsure that statement made sense; as if the vaguely questioning inflection to his tone wasn’t quite enough. “It’s kind of different per person-- as if I’ve like.. had sex with that many people in the first place, but... The point is, there’s different ways it sounds at different moments. There’s the breathy sighs of it, there’s the shaky whines of it, the loud moans of it. Obviously the physicality of it all is great, but god, I don’t know. It hits different, hearing somebody say you’re name when you’re getting them off and you’re making them feel that good, y’know?”

It seemed a little like since getting back from Hawaii, he and Ryder had kind of been flip-flopped on work schedules. Not that it bothered Nico really, they fucking lived together, it wasn’t like they were never gonna see each other again, but it was admittedly a little odd. Coming in from an afternoon shift in the lounge to find that Ryder wasn’t getting ready to head down for work at the bar was a pleasant surprise, though. Slowing in the kitchen to grab himself a bottled water, Nico’s brows rose. “Wait, you’re telling me you don’t actually have to leave in like twenty minutes?” He chuckled, a vague disbelief present. “I feel like I’ve barely fucking seen you since before Hawaii, should we like get a pizza and celebrate or something?”
