Hello, everyone. I am a transgender gay man from Denmark, and I am a finalist in the Mr. Gay Denmark competition this year. The contest is partially judged by a panel of judges, and we compete in categories like social media, LGBT history, interview, talent, creativity (we have to make a poster), Mr. Congeniality... and partially a public vote. I am hoping that reaching out the the trans community in this way will help me with the public vote. So if you find this post because you follow one of the tags on this post, I’d like to tell you a bit about myself, in hopes that you will vote for me. I’m 44 years old, and I’m post-everything. I had my last surgery, metoidioplasty in 2014, and I documented the whole process on youtube (playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaE27MYiMbc&list=PL3a4-rJZqGtizo4YG6zz1u-2Lp1LO1A72). I’ve been involved with transgender activism here in Denmark, and we’ve had some succes. For instance, castration is no longer a requirement for legal gender change and we have also managed to get ourselves reclassified in the medical diagnostic journals, so we are no longer classified as having a mental disorder. I’ve stepped away from activism for a while, but now I am ready to throw myself back in. Being a gay man is not easy for me. I find myself at the bottom of a hierarchy that often makes me feel like I have no place in the gay community. I often feel invisible and excluded. A gay man is desirable if he is young, muscular and cisgender, and I am neither of these things. I would very much like to talk about this topic, because I don’t think I am the only one who is suffering in this system. What I really hope is that by standing up and speaking my truth, I will be able to reach others who really need to hear it. I know a transgender man has won Mr. Gay Philadelphia and I know that one has competed in Mr. Gay Ireland, but I don’t think a transgender man has ever won a national Mr. Gay competition. Netop kommet hjem fra en fantastisk dag i Gesten sammen med @larscphpride og andre fantastiske mennesker. Det var hyggeligt og inspirerende og rørende at mærke opbakning fra en kant man ikke troede bakkede en op. Og vi talte om hvor fantastisk det må være for de af byens børn der senere finder ud af at de er LGBT+ personer at have mødt miljøet. At vokse op et sted hvor de ved at alle er velkomne. Og jeg ønsker alt godt til arrangørerne, de var top seje og tog en chance og havde ingen sponsorer og jeg krydser fingre for at det ender med at løbe rundt.
