A few more photos and a video from Beck, JMJ and Nigel's Ride Lonesome sessions at Miraval in France, including Nigel's Dalcon, Mastering Lab Tannoy Golds, Acoustic Energy AE1, Prophet 5 and a bunch of other mainstays from their career.
A couple of Instagram updates from Nigel and via Beck.
You can see a few shots of Nigel's stuff at Miravel studio in France during Beck's sessions - the moog modular, Dalcon, DC-20 delay, and Hawk HE-2150 Tape Echo.
And the other two shots are what look to be blurry sessions for Nigel's new band Dragonflies from Nigel's studio.

Looks like they have the Dalcon installed there. Not sure if Nigel sold it or just transported as he does sometimes with his 2488. You can also see Nigel mainstays like the Moog modular, Prophet 5 synth and a mono U47 over the kit and drummer's shoulder. As well as the Tannoy Gold with Mastering Lab mods.
Darryl Thorp shared two pictures of the monitor mix for At the Mercy (a song from Paul McCartney's Chaos and Creation in the Backyard). Remember Nigel mixed Beck's Sea Change in the monitor section of the Dalcon so it's possible this is the same approach. Interesting to see the balances and how the multitrack breaks down by element. Darryl was the assistant engineer at Ocean Way in Studio B during the time Nigel produced Paul.
Random update but one of the items in the racks from the black and while picture of Thom in Jonny's studio (in front of the wall of outboard) is an SCV Audio MD8, an 8 channel DI box with each channel having a pair of outputs (unbalanced and balanced). Versatile solution for hooking up synths, drum machines, guitars, etc. in the control room.

Not going to say much but for my money...this is the best Nigel interview from a human perspective I've ever heard. Very special one, I'd say.

Cool set of photos showing the Mutations setup, where all the guys were bagged up on the face.
Notice the C12 on Beck's vocal and the U47 on the acoustic - parallel capsules / positioned at same angle. Similar to the Roger Waters setup.
The L/R overhead setup over Joey's kit is similar to photos from Radiohead / Phil Selway's kit during the In Rainbows era, C12s angled towards the cymbals with a mono LDC (in this case a U47) low over the center of the kit. This was Nigel's first time at Ocean Way so he was still doing the 421s on the toms, as opposed to the near ubiquitous C12As from Sea Change on. As usual, blanket covered kick drum, possibly with the front head off.

I lost a drum fill once when making ok computer.. (putting together a version of no surprises) but apart from that mistakes have more often brought happy accidents .. I used to do these time little time lapse videos for fun. My archiving tendencies… This one goes out to my friend Eothan who I was talking to about it last night…"

Cool little documentary from the band Chartreuse about making a record with Sam Petts-Davies. Tape loops, pretty much the same Nigel-esque drum and guitar setups, API console, etc. There are other videos for each song.
Some pictures of the Dalcon and internals of its modules, posted by Strongroom's tech. For the curious. Highly modified, not exactly stock Spectrasonics and the like. As noted by the tech, the desk was constantly modified.
Excellent interview from Dead Wax with Justin Meldal Johnsen. This was two years ago but includes a lot about the recording of Mutations, Sea Change, how the main Beck crew operated and plenty on Nigel's mindset. Will transcribe the relevant bits soon.
Nigel recently had a conversation with Air's Nicolas Godin and Vegyn about Air's Moon Safari, but also some more philosophical stuff re: how production has changed for artists over time, musicianship vs. making a record. Fun chat.
