Stop Calling Your Abusers By Name!

Kemetics, by now, you might know the importance of a name. Our Ancient ancestors regarded names as sacred, and remembering names was always important. If your name was forgotten, you were forgotten, your soul ceased to exist from the Duat.

Though I don’t personally believe souls are ever truly destroyed, I decided to experiment with this idea. Having suffered from emotional abuse my entire young life, I decided to try something; I decided, no longer, to refer to my abuser by name. 

We censor and deface A/p3p’s name at every given chance, and even here on this blog, we have said, if you hate a deity, you should not speak Their name. But what happens if you do this to a human? Completely erase and deface the very thing we use to identify them in our own minds?

Personally, while it didn’t erase the years of emotional abuse she put me through, it did bring me more peace. I think of her less, I get less heated than I did before when I think about what she did to me. It feels like an act of silent rebellion, and like slowly, I’m erasing her from my mind. I still slip sometimes and call her by name, but it’s a work in progress, like all things are.

So, Kemetics and fellow traumatized people, we encourage you; don’t refer to your abusers by name. See how it works for you!

Based out of the UK, artist Steve Payne is the brainchild behind the project entitled REPLACEFACE. Payne takes digital copies of the works of English painter George Dawe (get your Art History learn on if you don’t know who that is!) to literally swap the heads of the original subjects with the heads of contemporary celebrities.
