Banish excuses, self-doubt, and fear of success
You deserve to live your life for the joys and not the frustrating slights that are out of your control... Though the profound effect these tiny moments of happiness can have on all of us are often lost in the shuffle of life and its myriad injustices, you deserve to look at them and see them for the victories of compassion and simplicity that they are.
When you become that sponge who is always soaking up the love that surrounds them, and choosing to amplify it, and never confusing “single” for “alone,” that is when you are a better person. Because that shit radiates off of you like sunlight, and everyone is trying to get a tan off your happiness.
Of course, marriage requires sacrifice. And sometimes it will feel as if it takes and takes. However, when we return marriage to its rightful place in our priorities, it can quickly turn from something we have to maintain and sacrifice for into the greatest asset to every other layer of our lives.
But it’s this kind of torture that really propels us to greater things… Because after we get through that phase of wondering how and why we could ever be replaced, we start thinking about what this means for us. Where do we go next? What do we do? We make a new life. We’re refueled with such a drive to make a new life for ourselves, and I’ll tell you from experience that really incredible things can come from this. I know it seems hopeless, but keep moving forward, one step at a time.
Nobody is going to save you. That is something only you can do for yourself. You can wait for another love, another job, another whatever to come along and ease the burden but if and when that falls through as well, you’ll be hurt even worse. Learn to hold your own hand. Be your own best friend. Learn how to make yourself happy.
Whatever you may think, the truth is that only you are accountable for your own life. Your parents, your grandmother, your boss, your girlfriend, your neighbor’s dog or your country’s president – all of them aren’t really responsible for your personal life so don’t go playing the “blame game” on them when things go wrong.
It doesn’t matter if you’re not currently where you want to be in your life. What matters is that you’re actively trying to achieve your goals rather than getting defeated.
What I’ve learned is a cliché, but it’s true: You have to focus on yourself first. You have to be driven by your own secret desires for yourself, not by your loneliness.
The question never makes the asker seem foolish or childish — rather, to ask is to command the respect of the other person who in the act of helping you is drawn closer to you, likes you better and will go out of his way on any future occasion to share his knowledge with you.
If you don’t want your life to go in a certain direction, understand that you have the ability to change it. You might already. After all, “understanding something” and “deciding to do something about it” are two entirely different things.
We like stumbling through sentences in foreign languages like kindergarteners. We feel proud when we can get through three weeks in Eastern Europe on a single backpack or successfully navigate through the tricky back alleys of a new city. We get thrills during the moment that a plane takes off from the runway or a bullet train pulls out of the station. We get off on eating foods that contain things we’ve never tried before, let alone heard of. We love filling out those “where I’ve been” maps and seeing just how much of the world we’ve covered.
Studies show that stress can lead to heart problems, diabetes and even cancer. It is difficult to avoid stress; it will always come, especially if you allow it. But you can always learn how to deal with it.
The more circumspectly you delay writing down an idea, the more maturely developed it will be on surrendering itself.
If you are well and truly losing this battle, reach out to someone. I’ve been the random friendly-but-not-close person who has fielded the occasional outreach. I like to think I’m not judgemental and generally resourceful, and others have thought the same, so they called and asked. You know someone like me. And they will help you.
There’s a popular saying that goes something like this: “The happiest people don’t have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.” You will have a deeper sense of contentment if you count your blessings instead of yearning for what you don’t have.
Self-respect is one of the greatest gifts you could ever give yourself but it’s also one of the hardest things to obtain.
