I'm struggling to concentrate, and I'm so confused and anxious. I'm exactly back where I was in March, and early April when I couldn't seem to focus or feel anything. I was so depressed and anxious, too scared to do anything. Now I'm just frozen in paralysis whenever the idea of art (specifically my final for this class) comes to mind. I know I'm fearing failure with this, with all art right now. I hate this. I WAS able to do my warm ups today, but there was no feeling to any of it. I felt like I was just forcing myself. I hate this. Just Thursday, I was feeling all into the art and process and school and everything. I was so calm and happy. Now I'm just fucking scared.

A little bit of an update on the comic: I finished the panel descriptions for the entire prologue!!! Now I just need to work on the narration and dialogue, then last step is drawing each thing. Just a little sketch, maybe throw some lighting in there for reference. Nothing too detailed. I'm super happy with how the prologue is turning out. I just found myself in the flow of things. It was nice.

Here's what I've realized from the Artemis II mission:

You cannot study STEM without the arts, and you cannot study humanities without the sciences. In that tiny capsule we sent to the moon, we sent physicists who are also photographers. We sent poets who are pilots.

We sent experts on exact scientific maneuvers who also express precise emotion and experience that will be quoted for decades. They play with a stuffed moon in the background of a broadcast and have Chappell Roan as their wakeup music. They drove around the far side of the moon.

We sent parents, partners...We sent humans, who are unabashedly showing their humanity and brilliance and vulnerability. They are smart and kind and generous and ambitious and silly and thoughtful and so damn good at what they do. And they want to share it all with us.

things I won’t let ai take away from human writers

short sentence stacking as a stylistic choice

none of these belong to ai. these are all what human writers have been writing since day one, way before ai was invented. ai was trained to mimic how human writers write — so em dash, not x not y but z and short sentence stacking would never have been used by ai at all if ai hadn’t learned and mimicked them from human writers.

no, you are not “fighting against ai” by accusing every work that has em dash, not x not y but z or short sentence stacking in it as ai-generated, you are helping ai harm the writing community by engaging in witch hunt and scaring human writers away from creating/sharing their works for fear of being wrongly accused of using ai.

speculations, accusations and ai witch hunt harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.

"she holds the record for the most days spent in space by a woman!" this "she was part of the only all female space walk!" that, she's on the list of people who have spent the most time in space, period. she's spent more time in space than any of her crewmates - one of whom hasn't been into space at all. her time in space is only three days less than what all of her crewmates have combined. she has had as many spacewalks as all of her crewmates combined. she's not there because she's the best female nasa astronaut they could find and they wanted the diversity quota or whatever, she's there because she's part of the most qualified and experienced nasa personnel they could send up there

This is a comparison of my 1000 foot tall deep sea monster, C’thegra, vs a 6 foot tall (Noah) human. What the fuck. This scale is enormous and I really hope I can make this come across in the comic. I’m definitely going to draw this comparison myself, but just for comparison safe, this is insane. this got me thinking: short sentence stacking existed long before AI, and it’s because it existed — and because it can be effective — (oh, look, em dashes!) that generative AI uses it. now mixing it with even shorter and longer sentences is craft. technique. it’s creating rhythm. it’s knowing how to control words to create the exact meaning you desire. can AI effectively do that? 👀
