▣ — Peridot actually took a step back when the child began spitting questions at her. it wasn’t difficult to keep up with what was being asked, ( in fact answering quickly & accurately was part of her repertoire on Homeworld ), but it had been a while since anyone had hurled so much at her so fast.
trying not to get overwhelmed, each inquiry & corresponding answer ticked itself off in her mind. once she was organized, she opened her mouth to start replying…
… just in time for the child to have scampered off. well, at least it fit with her current pattern of ‘ Gem with the worst luck ever ’.
“ well, at least he’s excited about something… ” she muttered, mainly to herself.
after a few seconds, noticing that Joseph was speaking to her, she looked up at him. another one? what was he talking about – oh. “ another… fusion experiment? ” all of a sudden her hands curled inward against her chest, feeling as if she had a heart that was thumping against her ribs. for all that she had monitored those things, having them out & about was absolutely terrifying.
she snatched the box as soon as he was finished speaking, & held it against her chest. slowly she looked down, but didn’t want to risk opening the box & possibly letting the thing out. “ … thank you. you made the right decision. ” a deep breath was taken, before she did her best at focusing her new skills. a moment of this, & a small green bubble formed around the box.
“ … there… now, back to the temple. ” with all her fingers, she tapped on it, & it vanished. “ this isn’t good. I thought we’d gotten the last of them. ”
“I don’t know.” Joseph replied, still watching across the way for David to get done with the house he was currently at, “I’ve been looking online to see if there’s been any weird sightings like that, but there're few and far between. Either they somehow know to stay out of sight, or...”
He shook his head. It was all a theory at this point, anything he had to say. It's not like he was up on the strange Frankenstein-like experiments of ancient alien civilizations. He worked a crappy night security gig. All he could do was guess.
"What I don't understand is why one would come back to the pizzeria," he said, frowning slightly, "I mean, sure, the one was there, and you and Steven took care of that one that was inside the first time. But I can't tell how that one or the second one got in in the first place."
David had gotten his booty and was heading on back. Joseph smiled again, but was still talking to Peridot, "I'm sorry I can't be of more help."
