‘Glow Up’ Tips
It’s kind of long, but here is a list of tips/ideas I feel are most important to improve yourself/glo up this summer (or anytime for that matter). -Nat
Take up a new hobby/skill (such as)
Learn how to play an instrument
Learn a new language
Learn how to manage stress
Take a course (online or elsewhere) in something you’re interested in
Build better habits (like)
Skincare routine/Taking care of your skin in general
Self-care routine (Not necessarily face mask and bath bombs, it could be anything from clipping your fingernails to setting aside time to read or do yoga etc)
Working out/Exercising every day
Break bad habits (like)
Going to bed really late
Eating lots of ‘junk’ food/drinking sugary drinks
Cut down screen time
Read!
Self-help*, fiction, non-fiction, how-to books
*Sarah Knight’s The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving A F**k, Get Your Sh*t Together, and You Do You are at the top of my list along with You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero
Get a new look
Clean out your wardrobe and add new pieces
Get a haircut/look for new ways to style your hair
If you’re into makeup play around with different looks
Get a piercing or tattoo if it’s something you’ve been meaning to do
Hydrate!
Because we all knew it was coming. Summer can get extremely hot so fight off dehydration by keeping water at hand
Get a job/fix up your resume/start saving money
Easier said than done, I know, but @yournewapartment has tons of tips on job searching and all that other fun adult stuff (it’s my absolute favourite blog. I’m always learning new tips and tricks to win at life from it)
Get organised
Organise your spaces/belongings (bags, bedroom, apartment/house, storage, etc)
Invest in a planner/bullet journal/notebook to keep track of events and to-do’s (your phone works too but personally I prefer a physical copy)
Focus on your mental health
Work on ending toxic relationships (romantic, platonic, or familial)
Or work on not being the toxic part of a relationship
If you need professional/medical help to manage your mental health take the steps to do so
Let your main focus be on you and doing what’s best for you, not what negatives people have to say about you
Have some zero days where you don’t do anything besides focus on you/do the things you want to do
Get to know yourself/Do a self-assessment
Think about who you are and who you want to be
Think about your immediate goals and goals for the future
To both of those things ask yourself how are you going to achieve them/set SMART goals
Identify your likes and dislikes
Fight negative thoughts/learn to accept your flaws (it’s hard and you may fall back into that pattern of thinking every once in a while, but as long as you keep fighting you’ll start to see progress)
Make memories/Go on adventures
With your family, friends, by yourself etc
Often times we can get so caught up in our hustle that we forget to relax and have fun- therefore set aside time to do something relaxing/fun every week or two such as going to the mall, out to eat, or curling up at home with a good book/movie.
06.8.2019 - Friday
It’s been raining the whole day, but at least I managed to take a photo of the beautiful (double) rainbow I saw while walking to school today :3c
how to get stuff done
1. invent a deadline for yourself and stick to it. either you finish things early and have free time for other things or you don’t meet your deadline and still have a few days to catch up before it matters
2. celebrate every little achievement. it’s frustrating to wait to get an assignment/exam back because you get no immediate satisfaction. after every task you complete go for a walk, see a friend, cook, get a hot chocolate. feel good about your progress without having to wait for someone else to tell you that you’re doing a good job
3. organise your to-do list using these 4 categories:
important and urgent - do this now!
important but not urgent - schedule this
not important but urgent - delegate this or schedule it for later
not important and not urgent - don’t do this until you have done everything else
4. divide and conquer. if you have a paper to write divide it up into easy chunks e.g. plan/first draft/second draft/checking etc. and tackle these one at a time. don’t just write ‘history paper’ on your to-do list because you will feel unproductive until you tick it off, even if you are making progress
5. don’t forget to put self-care on your to-do list. make sure every day you write down and tick off ‘drink water’ ‘get some fresh air’ ‘take some time away from the computer’ ‘brush teeth’ ‘shower’. you will feel productive and also be looking after yourself, both of which will boost your general productivity
6. study slots not study tasks. break up your tasks into time slots and write those on your to-do list. instead of ‘revise German Unification’ my to-do list will say ‘1 hour German Unification’. after 1 hour I will stop and tick off that task. then write it again later or the next day if I want to do more. it is easier to quantify tasks (especially humanities/arts revision) by time rather than by topic.
7. have a visual indicator of your progress. if you think you need to spend 6 hours on German Unification in total then draw a rectangle and divide it in 6 and colour one segment in for every hour you work so you can see your progress. this will serve as motivation and as a reward for hard work
8. find a friend with a similar/better work ethic than you and sit together in a library and study hard. it’s nice to surround yourself with people who are also working hard for motivation, and for someone to talk to during your study breaks
I hope this helps!

The sunset last night was so peaceful and comforting, as much as I’m looking forward to autumn (as you can tell from small Halloween decor making its way onto my desk) and settling into my final year, I will miss these summer evenings

Let’s Go Back to School : 2 Week Glow Up Plan
School is just around the corner! For many people, this is a time of stress, panic, and dismay. Maybe you didn’t get your ideal summer body, maybe you don’t know how to prepare, maybe your sleep schedule is a mess and you have NO idea how to fix it. Whatever the case may be, just follow this helpful and detailed (but not overwhelming, I promise) guide for a last minute, 2 week glow up!
I. Your Checklist
First things first, you need to figure out what you need to do/purchase before school starts. This doesn’t need to be a big hassle, nor do you need to pour over this list for hours. I personally just sat down and started listing things that I needed or that I wanted to do before class began. Once I had a general idea of where I was going with the list, I separated the things I was listing into categories ( self care, beauty, personal items, and of course school supplies ). I also made a separate box in my list for tasks I needed to complete, such as any papers I had to turn in or any appointments I needed to make (ex. haircuts). For anybody who is lost and has no clue where to start with this list, here’s a sample to help you get started:
Self Care
Any skincare, hair care, hygienic or similar products you either need or are running low on would go underneath this category. I would recommend :
A Low PH Facial Cleanser (for morning use)
Hydrating Moisturizer for your Face
Facial Sunscreen (need I explain?)
Body Sunscreen ( ^^^ )
A Chemical Exfoliator ( the Ordinary AHA & BHA chemical peel is a good one, so I’ve heard )
An Oil-Based Cleanser (good for removing makeup)
A Cleanser for Nighttime (dependent on your skin type, of course)
Hydrating Facial Oil
Moisturizing Body Lotion
An Active Serum
Hair Sprays (for texture, heat protection, preventing frizziness, whatever you need)
Beauty
This would cover any makeup products and/or clothing items you may need. My recommendations are :
Concealer
Mascara
An Eyeshadow Palette with Nude AND Colorful Options (better for your $$$)
Natural False Lashes (good for sprucing up a neutral look @ formal events)
Translucent Setting Powder (keep the shine away & help your makeup stay :D)
A Makeup Sponge A Nude Lipstick (for every day use)
A Good Foundation (as in not horrible for your skin, preferably)
Any new clothes you may need
Any new shoes you may need
Personal Items
I consider these the miscellaneous items we tend to keep in our backpacks, such as :
Hand Sanitizer
Tissue
Hand Cream
Period Supplies (for my menstruating friends)
Chapstick
Reusable Water Bottle
Reusable Straw
Gum/Mints
Hair-ties & bobby pins (for people with troublesome hair)
Blotting Sheets (for my fellow shiny people)
School Supplies
The obvious, but longest list. I personally would recommend the following as I feel it is good for just about any grade level/student (though I’ll star a few items I think are absolutely essential to save you some trouble) :
Backpack *** (duh)
Loose Leaf Paper ***
Graph Paper
3 Ring Binder, min. 1 inch *** (for your paper, also as a temporary alternative until you find out which classes of yours actually require notebooks so you don’t waste unnecessary money)
2 Folders *** (one for homework & important papers, and one for miscellaneous papers. this is a really easy system imo)
Pens *** (black or blue ink, I favor Muji pens but I’m also BROKE broke so literally just any semi-decent quality pens that won’t make writing a hassle for you while you take notes)
#2 Pencils *** (I know people prefer lead pencils– myself included tbh– but important for when you’re taking exams or as a backup should you lose your lead pencils)
Lead Pencils (vice versa with #2 pencils, good for neat & quick writing or for the artsy folk who need them for doodling)
Hole Puncher (to store loose papers in your binder)
Highlighters *** (once again, the tumblr favorite being midliners, but any highlighters will do tbh so long as you have a few different colors. if possible I would highly recommend sticking to light/pastel colors though, as they’re easier on the eyes and make it less difficult to review writing later on)
Sticky Tab Dividers (for marking important pages, separating chapters in books, so on and so forth)
Sticky Notes *** (obviously for taking notes, as an alternative to sticky tab dividers, good for reviewing, etc)
A Ruler (I have a mini one, they’re convenient for math classes or any other class that may require drawing straight lines, as well as for people who like cornell notes/similar note taking styles)
Index Cards *** (suuuuuper important for studying & reviewing on the go, best for learning vocab or studying events/dates such as in history classes)
Washi Tape (it’s cute and makes studying fun, I don’t know what else to say)
A tablet/laptop * (depending on your grade or your school, this may or may not be necessary. unless you’re a college student or you are someone who KNOWS you’ll be needing an electronic device like this FOR SURE during the school year, I’d wait to buy it if you need one at all)
Tasks
Now here we get to any sort of things that need to get done before school starts. Some examples :
Turn in any missing paperwork
Take a tour of your school
Attend Orientation/Mandatory Meetings
Hair Appointments (cut, style, color)
Medical Appointments (doctor, therapist, dentist, etc)
PAYING TUITION
FINISH SIGNING UP FOR CLASSES
FINISHING SUMMER HOMEWORK (if you have any due before school starts)
II. Glow Up Plan : Week 1
Okay, now that we have all THAT listed and sorted out, we can start with our plan. I broke my plan down day by day in order to make each and every day left between now and my first day of classes productive so that I would feel good accomplishing things without overwhelming myself or making things too difficult for me to accomplish. Let’s Begin!
Sunday
Plan Your Week!
This is when you should make your list, see your schedule, and figure out what works best for you. Particularly people who have jobs or who live very busy lives, you need to make sure you’ll have time for yourself and to prepare yourself for school, but ALSO make sure you’re not piling up each day with insurmountable amounts of tasks because I promise you won’t accomplish everything if you try to cram.
Monday
Self Care
I would say this is a “nitty gritty” day. Today, you need to establish a set morning and night routine that you will be following for the rest of the week. This includes creating a skincare routine that works for YOU, trying it out, and trying to make sure you’ll actually follow through with it throughout the school year (meaning that 10 Step Korean Skincare routine might have to wait, unless you’re okay waking up a LOT earlier than you need to every day).
** MORNING ROUTINE EXAMPLE **
Wash Face w/ Low Ph Facial Wash OR with JUST WATER (yes I said that!)
Moisturize w/ Hydrating Facial Moisturizer (NOT LOTION, ITS NOT THE SAME)
Apply Sunscreen
** NIGHTTIME ROUTINE EXAMPLE **
Remove makeup/dirt from face with an Oil Based Cleanser
Wash Face w/ a Cleanser Made for Your Skin Type
Use a Toner (I use an apple cider vinegar one, 3 parts water & 1 part vinegar)
Moisturize w/ Hydrating Facial Moisturizer (NOT LOTION, ITS NOT THE SAME THING I PROMISE) and add some essential facial oil if your skin is dry/dehydrated
Lock Moisture in w/ Water Based Overnight Hydration Mask (personal fave, but not necessary I suppose)
- Monday can also be a day where you experiment with makeup & hair! Try out different looks, search up new styles, brush your hair every which way, find out some looks you like and that you would like to try for school and start practicing them now!!!!!
Tuesday
Digital Detox
Everybody needs a break from electronics, you and I are no different. Today is all about making your electronics a good place for you, then giving them a break and taking a look at life away from a screen :)
Delete Unused Apps Declutter Device Storage (move everything to google drive/google photos/the cloud/etc)
Download Apps for School (photomath, egenda, goodnotes, whatever floats your boat)
Take a MINIMUM 2 hour break from your phone at night !!!
Read a book, drink some tea, talk to your family, if you can help it refrain from using it all night (or, if you’re like me and use it right before you go to bed for music or other things that help you sleep, try not to use it until you’re about to go to bed at least c: )
Wednesday
CLEAN !
Nothing says “New School Year” quite like a newly organized and deluttered room! Clean it out, wash your sheets, do your laundry, vacuum your carpet or sweep your floors, I need you to clean this place until it sparkles! You’ll maybe be grouchy about it doing it, but I promise you’ll thank me when you see how much better you feel about yourself and the new academic year in a fresh new habitat :D
** Strongly Recommend the Konmari Method!!!! It’s Very Useful !!! **
Rearrange your bedroom!!! I swear I never feel better in my old space than moving things around to feel new and different. ESPECIALLY if it’s been a while or if you’re making a big transition in your life (middle –> high school , high school –> college , undergrad –> grad , etc). You’re going to feel like a new person once you make your space a little more “You” :)
Thursday
Mental Health Day
This is the day we will practice mindfulness. A new school year can cause a lot of overthinking and anxiety, especially when it’s going to be a big transition into the unknown. Taking a day to calm the mind and focus on self and spiritual/mental enlightenment will do wonders.
Follow a Guided Meditation after you wake up & before you go to bed
Do some light reading or studying, maybe even listening to a calming and helpful podcast or TED Talk.
Try some yoga!
Just make this a “Me” Day where you give both the mind and body a break from the constant action we tend to face on a daily basis
Friday
Make Change
This sounds more dramatic than it is, but spending a day practicing positive change in the world around you will not only make you feel better about yourself, but make those around you appreciate you for the kindness of your heart :)
Donate Your Unused Belongings (aka those you cleared out on Wednesday!)
Do Good Deeds Today!
- compliment as many people as you can today, make an extra effort to say “thank you” to people, remind those close to you that you love them, the possibilities are endless!
Change Yourself!!! (if desired)
- donate your hair, donate old clothes, even donate old glasses (and yes there are places that take them!), make a positive change for yourself, you deserve it :)
Sat/Sun
Healthy Food, Healthy Life
Make a workout plan and make an effort to begin eating healthier, even if the most you can manage is simply going for a walk every afternoon and drinking your minimum 8 cups of water a day, something is better than nothing!!!
II. Glow Up : Week 2
This is week is going to be a lot easier this week, and that is because I feel that the week leading up to school should be one of fun and relaxation rather than doing a bunch of tough chores and making all these plans. This week should be about putting those plans into action, as well as working to improve the mind, body, and self image so that you can walk into school on that first morning radiating self confidence!!!
Monday
Touch Ups
This will be another self care day, but rather than going hardcore on experiments and creating a routine, you’ll be practicing it and fixing up any loose ends you might have. Doing things such as getting your hair cut/dyed/treated, getting your eyebrows done, waxing or shaving, and other things of the nature would be the main focus today. In addition today could be the day to buy your beauty and self care products if you haven’t before. (OF COURSE ONLY IF YOU WANT TO BECAUSE NO ONE SHOULD FORCE THEMSELVES TO DO ANY OF THESE THINGS IF YOU DONT WANT TO)
- I would focus on gentle facial masks or other treatments you would want to practice, such as sheet masks or a moisturizing hair treatment :)
Tuesday
Body Love
This incredibly important day will be dedicated to worshiping your own body and learning not only how to care for it physically, but how to see the beauty in your own body for yourself.
Workout/Do Yoga, taking time to see what your fitness goals are and trying to build a plan/routine that you can ACTUALLY follow throughout the school year
Take extra care of your hands and feet! exfoliate, paint your nails, moisturize them well!
Focus all day on finding the things you love about you body, from your gorgeous eyes and the way they reflect the morning light to your perfect figure that you think has the cutest shape just perfect for hugging! No thing is too small to appreciate, so jot these things down (MINIMUM OF 10, YOU CAN DO IT) and preach it to yourself all day long, henny!
Wednesday
Self Love
Today I want you to practice positive affirmations to yourself. Listen to uplifting podcasts or read inspirational books. List all the things you love about yourself, anything at all that you like (I promise you, just start with 5-10 things and it’ll be so much easier to come up with more!!!), write them down on sticky notes, and paste them all throughout your room!!! On your vanity, in your drawers, right next to the door, there shouldn’t be a single wall where you don’t have at least one positive thing to remind you of just how attractive a human you are!!!!
- I would also recommend (if you don’t already) to start a journal or a diary, and trying to focus your energy into making it something positive that you can always turn to when you’re down in order to lift your spirits :)
Thursday
Health Check
Today we need to figure out “what exactly do we need in order to be happy and healthy human beings?” In short, that will mean :
Making a Meal Prep Plan for School (making sure you’re eating a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and dinner). If you’re someone like myself who has a schedule that won’t really allow for a full lunch break, then at least pack a few healthy snacks to eat during the day between classes or before you head back home/to your dorm!
Find and PRACTICE these recipes before school starts!!! Start with one meal for each time of day, then slowly build yourself up! Skipping Meals is NOT an Option!!!!!!!
Friday
Mind
Start Studying!!!!
That’s right, sorry but the work starts early this week. As much as you may not want to , it’s important to at least review general subjects for your classes before you start classes again. Just refresh your brain a bit! Check what you did understand the previous year and what you didn’t, make a note of it, and (if you have time) try studying these difficult topics and see if you can help yourself understand them!
Revise any work you may need to turn in or that you will be doing before class starts (if applicable)
CREATE A STUDY PLAN!!! NON-NEGOTIABLE!!! Find or Make a set time that you will dedicate to studying and completing work, make sure it’s enough to get as much work as possible done BUT in a way that is convenient to you and that will NOT disrupt your sleep schedule. ALL NIGHTERS DONT GET A’s!!!!!
START USING A BUJO OR A PLANNER!!!!! THESE THINGS ARE INVALUABLE AND YOU WILL DROWN WITHOUT A WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF YOUR ASSIGNMENTS!!!!!
Saturday
Fun Day!!!!
GO !!! OUT !!! WITH !!!! YOUR !!!! FRIENDS !!!!
Summer is about to end, you DESERVE a final chance to do everything you wanted to do this summer!!! Plan a party or just a casual hangout, go to the movies or go clubbing, just go out and have fun!!!! Go on a date if you can (A PLATONIC DATE BETWEEN FRIENDS COUNT TOO AND THEY ARE JUST AS NICE AS ROMANTIC DATES SO DONT FEEL PRESSURED OR SAD TO BE SINGLE PLEASE), hand out with your family on last day, or even try and have a bonding day with your roommates!!! Today is a day to kick back and make the most out of your summer, try not to end it with any regrets :)
Sunday
FINAL PREPARATIONS !!!
Finally time to prepare for school!!! Pack your backpack, prep any meals or snacks for the week, plan out your outfits in advance, so on and so forth, today is your day to get everything ready!
Additionally, today should be a chill day to just relax. In my personal opinion, at least, I think the day before school is best spent in the home having a good relaxing time so as not to risk waking up tired or sore the next day. Make some snacks, throw on a sheet mask, curl up with a good book or watch a nice movie, anything that calms you down and makes you feel good is on the table here.
TURN IN EARLY. PLEASE. it’s a no-brainer, but I know that many people get nerves the night before school starts (or maybe it’s just me) that prevent them from sleeping soundly. Meditate before bed, drink a warm cup of relaxing tea, stretch and relax the body with some yoga and some chill music, and try your best to go to bed and get (at least on this first day) 10 hours of sleep. After that, aim for anything between 8 and 10, but PLEASE be well rested on that first day!!!! You’ll really regret it if you’re not!!! :((
III. Finally…..
** GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A WONDERFUL SCHOOL YEAR EVERYONE!!!! **
Encouragingly,
~ Rory ☀️
I eat this breakfast combo literally every single day but i never get tired of it phew

2.12.2019. Tuesday.
The only class I have today is Latin, which is wonderful. I know that afterwards I need to be productive, but I just started season 6 of Game of Thrones last night, so that probably isn’t going to happen.
