Social Media Communications Blog 1
I would define social media as any online hub of information, network, or shared dialog using communication technology. This can include blogs, boards, chat rooms, emails, rating sites, videos and specific audience targeted posts. Any form of online site, app or group that allows sharing information, photos, videos or media with others is considered social media to me. Social media is focused and based on peoples’ experiences and is created from user generated content. Some key aspects of social media are message construction, bringing communities together through advanced web technologies, empowerment and willingness to help within a community, and gateways ignited between people, brands, organizations and worldwide.
I would characterize myself as a social media user in a few ways. Firstly, I am a creator and artist. I love to post in multiple platforms including Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok and occasionally Facebook. Creating content such as videos, collages, voice overs, and blogs are my main contributions. I don’t usually fall into trends unless it aligns with m page but I do see how it could benefit my pages.
My plans are to continue creating art and eventually make revenue and a successful platform from YouTube and Instagram. I enjoy community and sharing my experiences with makeup, visual arts, jokes, events, work and just my everyday life in Providence. Collaboration is my latest adventure, and I’ve just finished a 31-day challenge of posting for the month of October with a Halloween theme to see what makes my analytics jump. While not as successful as I hoped it still was 50k views that I previously didn’t have and I learned so much about what it takes to establish not only an audience but an audience that wants to engage with your content. My current issue is “What’s next?” Is always my problem. I do not have a niche or anything I’m fully known for so It is hard to create content sometimes and still remain relevant to the algorithm.
On the other hand, I am a heavy social media consumer as well; I favor TikTok and Instagram but tend to use them all throughout the day. Reposting, saving and being inspired by other creators is what keeps me engaged in apps and sites. I mainly use YouTube for finding information and what to do next to level up my persona. Tiktok and Instagram for more pleasure and Pinterest is where I find inspiration to then base videos off of.
Within social media I have strengths in understanding there is a message within everything whether it’s a business advertisement, personal post or something in between the two. I have trouble fully grasping good quality content and the algorithms because they differentiate depending on the platform and because social media trends are forever changing. Â
I want to have a better understanding of social media as a whole and not feel as if I am just posting and hoping for good analytics. I have never had a passion for anything besides social media and sharing my life in a blogging sense so I truly want to take a deep dive into the course content to develop a better understanding.
