Hello everyone,
I've had this blog a long time and never actually made a post. However, I had some thoughts about yesterday's game between the Wings vs. Storm. I'm a long time WNBA fan and I'm super excited the league is growing and finally getting the deserved recognition. I wanted to share some thoughts I had about the game.
My thoughts on the game:
Everybody chill. With so many voices at all times and so many people thinking they are a coach we have to acknowledge that it's only the second game of the season. Now I don't disagree at all that the rotation options and coaching decisions last night need to improve, but everyone is basically new to the organization from the GM to the coaching staff to almost all the players. Plus Paige just jumped into the league and its been roughly a month since Uconns incredible run to NCAA Champions. Dallas needs a little grace, especially considering all the newness to the organization. Plus if we keep it real, it took the Indiana Fever, even with a talented addition like Caitlin Clark the entire first half of last year's season to figure it out. Their team has started to gel and will most likely have a positive second season.
I think dallas will figure it out. They need time to understand eachother and its clear the coaching staff is in figure it out mode. I'm hopeful they will. On the plus side, if they don't that means dallas has potential for another great pick next draft, as we'll secure another high first round slot.
Overall, I think Dallas lacks having another big, seems like we are struggling to figure out what to do at the center position. We have a lot of great players but we looked very small against Seattle last night. The Wings have to solve our size problem, which probably won't happen until next season. Another thing to mention is Arike, her game was very off last night, the good thing about that is, if she is on then we stand a chance against teams like Seattle. We know Arike is a scorer, hopefully last night was just one bad night and she'll be better. As for Paige, she had a great night, comparing her stats from college she was above the level she normally produces at. She has to adjust and once she does, she'll be a force that Dallas can really rely on, but it has to be noted that she literally transitioned from high level college hoops to the WNBA within a month.
So I'll repeat, everyone needs to chill and give Dallas a chance to find their rhythm with each other.
