Hi Jack! Do you know of any resources for character building? Like questions to answer about the character to help with muses etc?
oooh! on tumblr i do not, but let me find some old links i had from uniiiii/search some new links that might help you!! *commencing searching*
below are some different links that i hope will help you out anon!! (actually, i’m gonna be taking a look at these myself when i’m done posting it) *just a note though, that because they are links to different sites, it’s likely there are going to be duplicate questions on some/many of them
Character Development: Questions for Creating Character Facts and Personalities (from freelancewriting.com) has a great set of “starter lists” involving basic facts, character history, and character personality. sometimes the small questions can lead to bursts of inspiration about deeper ideas!!
The Ultimate Character Questionnaire (from novel-software.com) has over 150 QUESTIONS ranging from the basics, to asking about your character’s philosophy on love, to asking out-of-the-blue things like what your character’s password might be. some are silly, but anything helps when building that character depth.
365 Questions for Writers and Roleplayers (a PDF from errantdreams.com) is actually pretty neat if you’re looking for a fun project–probably not for a simple muse but great for a long-term endeavour. it has a question a day marked by calendar for every day of the year! new years’ resolution anyone?
20 Questions for Deep Character Creation (from plus1gaming.com) looks more suited to D&D, but after reading them i think they are GREAT for tumblr muses near and far. my favourite is probably the last one: “how do you want your character to die?” because that’s actually crucial to thinking about how you want your character to live!!
Character Development Questions: Building Character Arcs (from nownovel.com) this one doesn’t have a specific list of questions, but i’ll include it because character arcs are incredibly important to the muse-inspiration process; especially if you’re creating a character for an rpg. a character arc, and thinking about one from the get-go, is the best way to ensure your character doesn’t fizzle out!! this is a great read.
the rest of the links i found ended up getting pretty redundant, so i’ll end with those to spare you the repetition. i hope those help you like they’re gonna help me!! GOOD LUCK!!
