Tweek quieted almost immediately after Kenny had hushed him, sniffling harshly as he screams came to a sudden halt. The fear remained, heavy in his stomach and making him feel like he had to throw up. His hands moved to grasp at the ends of his hair and tugged at them harshly, reduced to an almost sniveling mess of anxieties and raw fear.
" That’s the point, man! It’s a maze! What if it’s like the one on the menu’s from Denny’s? I can’t do that one! I can’t! This one is impossible, I-I.. ” He wanted to cry, he really did. It was a miracle that he hadn’t already, with tears threatening to spill from his eyes at any moment. He couldn’t breathe without almost choking, throat constricting, and his only instinct was to hold onto something. His voice dropped down into almost a whisper, hands shaking as they held onto the fabric of Kenny’s jacket.
" I can’t do this.. “
But he has to, doesn’t he? Sitting there and letting Kenny go forward would be selfish and they were.. kind of friends, weren’t they? He couldn’t do that. The guilt would be too much.
" Nnh - l-lead the way, th.. th-then. “
They didn’t have any flashlights. His phone wouldn’t suffice. It was almost dead, and Kenny wouldn’t have one either. They were going into the dark, scary tunnel despite every inhibition that told him no nono non no don’t go forward, no, you’re going to die. And oh, god, what if they came across a monster? Neither of them could protect one another! There were probably monsters down there! He knew it! He could feel it!
The ominous, horrible gut feeling he got from just staring into the pitch black tunnel that lay ahead of the two boys was enough to tell him that this wasn't going to be just some smooth, effortless slide to the exit. He wasn't too sure what exactly was waiting for them in there, but whatever it was, he hoped that they would be prepared for it. Or, at least he would. Tweek was a whole other story, and Kenny would have to work his behind off trying to keep his skittish classmate's mouth zipped through this whole ordeal.
"No, you can do this," he assured the other boy, "Sure, it's a little dark, but it's nothing we can't handle, right? I-I'll bet it's just as lame and stupid as those mazes you find in those dumb 'haunted houses' on Halloween." Those things couldn't be scary even if they tried, but really anyone could tell that this was the dictionary definition of scary. He was beginning to question if spitting lies left and right was the best way of keeping Tweek quiet - but then again, who knew if what he was saying was a load of lies? They hadn't even set foot into the actual labyrinth yet. Ha, it could turn out to be the most innocent, g-rated piece of shit you could ever imagine!
... Actually, no. Take that back. This was going to be a wild and more importantly horrifying ride from start to finish.
With Tweek clinging to him like a magnet, Kenny slipped his arm around the other boy and gave him an assuring pat on the back as he proceeded forward into the maze. "It's ... It's alright, man! We'll be at the end before you know it! I'm pretty good at mazes, ya know."
