Google Ambient Chaos if you ever need background noises for writing! It's a customizable soundscape website.

Anon, when I first saw this ask, I thought it was going to be one of those mixers of nice, traditional sounds, like rain or a coffeeshop. And it is! And there's lofi hiphop, my favorite sound to write to! Which means this is legitimately an excellent tool for writers, and I love you for introducing it to me.

But I also want to say. There are some choices here. That I need to point out. Because they're either fantastic or questionable, and I can't decide.

Things like . . .

Couple arguing.

Beehive, where you can write to a fuckton of bees.

The leading actress for Elemental thought an issue with her crying in the audition for the part almost cost her the role.

When watching Elemental, I told my mom how above and beyond Pixar goes. Peter Sohn commented "Ember is not just made of fire, she IS fire. Wade is not just made of water, he IS water."

Mom, thinking that Pixar is overthinking things, asked "isn't that the same thing? what's the difference?"

Then this moment happened

And I said "that. I think that explains the difference"

Something that subtly stood out in Elemental was the gradual progression of Fire settling into the city, as well as how the rest of society reacts to them.

When Bernie and Cinder arrive, they are one of the first (if not the first) Fire in Element City. There they confront overt xenophobia (fully confident that the dude splashing Cinder was deliberate) and a lack of places to turn to.

By the time Ember is a kid, Fire Town is a thriving community that supports itself. But there's still the overt hostility if Fire wanders out into the main part of the city.

Once Ember is a young adult, we can see Fire not only throughout the city but interacting with other elements. However, it's clear that they are still in the minority, and while explicit hostility doesn't confront Ember like it did when she was a kid (hinting that it may not longer be socially acceptable), you can tell by the reactions of many that her presence garners visible discomfort and implicit hostility (ie don't actively bar entry but make the situation as tense as possible until the undesirable leaves). Not to mention the microagressions. And importantly, you get the structural neglect like the pipes still leading to Fire Town and the gate not being a priority to be fixed.

And it does raise an additional question as to whether the arrival of Earth and Wind was as peaceful as the murals in the terminal show, or if there was some nice little historical memory-holing going on.

Even when I was a kid, I would pray to the blue flame to be good enough to fill my father's shoes someday. Because this place is his dream. But I never once asked what I wanted to do. I think that's because deep down, I knew it didn't matter. Because the only way to repay a sacrifice so big, is by sacrificing your life too.
