Religious scholar Reza Aslan answers CNNâs question, âDoes Islam promote violence?â

If you trust in yourself âŠâ âYes?â âAnd believe in your dreams âŠâ âYes?â âAnd follow your star âŠâ âYes?â âYouâll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and werenât so lazy. Good-bye.
Sir Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men (via touka-tokyo)
Everybody: âOh, you study anthropology! Thatâs the study of dinosaurs right?!â
Me: âfmlâ
As an anthropology student, youâll meet two kinds of people: the honest ones and the liars.
The liars: Oh, Anthropology? Yeah yeah awesome cool *knowing face and nods*
The honest people: Oh uhm whatâs that? Not a study of knees is it? (true story btw)
This is so weird
Itâs an extremely intimate space because thereâs no one here apart from me (right?), but also the thing with blogs is that youâre talking to, or rather at, millions upon millions of people, even if they do not read your ramblings straight away.Â
Someone will stumble upon all these rants at one point or another. But would my visitor then be a voyeur? I write when no one is here, for someone to come in and snoop through later, is that how it works?
Maybe Iâm just being optimistic about how interesting people would find this mess. But I canât operate under the assumption that no one will see what I write ever at all. I wonder how that affects people in general. What would we post if tumblr was not a social platform? How dark would it get, and how quickly? Would people even keep blogs at all if nobody could see them?
Blogs are conceptually anomalous. Neither private, nor public. In short, weird.Â

I remember being 10 and thinking Iâll be settled down, married and have a baby on the way when Iâm 25. THATâS IN 4 YEARS WHAT.
I also remember 16 and thinking that 21-year-olds are mature as fuck, but here I am, 21, and kind of just bumping into things and falling over sometimes.Â
When you are Angry, Be Silent.
Prophet Muhammad ( Hadith, Imam Ahmad, al-Musnad, 1/329 )
Gotta work on this. Iâm not myself when Iâm angry, Iâm irrational. Iâm a hurricane of a person who makes snap decisions, burns bridges and tears down walls.Â
and then cries a little, but thatâs no big deal.

Why are there so many stupid people in my prestigious, world-class university?
Is it because the schooling system mistakes the ability to memorise and regurgitate for intelligence?
Or is it because not thinking critically about the world around you is a privilege that well-fed, financially secure people enjoy?

This isnât just a random attack in Paris because why not Paris. This is an attack on the entire idea of the West, itâs a retaliation against the death, famine, war, and terror that the West has unleashed on the Middle East.
What hurts me most about the situation is that innocent people are paying the price of the crimes their governments commit.
And what kills me most, is that those victims of terror didnât deserve to die, but were killed to bring the same kind of devastation and horror to our streets as we have brought to theirs.Â
To feel like we deserve this terror is devastating, even more so because I feel only a fraction of what people in Syria, Iraq, Iran, and all over, must have felt. Itâs disgusting to think that it is our âmodernâ, âliberalâ governments and parliaments and presidents who agreed to take actions that cause such horror and pain.Â
You do what you gotta do just to get your pot of stew And once you've got a modest pot you want a lot it's true And once you've got a lot you gotta stop and lock your view On those that need it most get em on their feet and show em How to do what they gotta do just to get their pot of stew And once they got a modest pot they'll want a lot it's true And once they got a lot... they gotta lock their view On those that need it get en on their feet and walk em through

listen, the David Cameron Pig Gate controversy is the fucking funniest news story of our time, bc this pretentious arsehole is never going to be taken seriously again. Every decision he makes is going to be met with âalright Dave, I hear what youâre saying but you put your dick in a dead pig so forgive me if I seek a second opinionâ what a time to be alive honestly.
Funnily enough, the significance of the piggate scandal was that such an (normally - I mean, who fucks a pig?!) unbelievable story was accepted as truth by the public immediately because of the main character. Had it been NIck Clegg that this story was posted about, we wouldâve been doubtful. But itâs Dave, so we say âwhy yes of course heâs capable of thatâ.Â
The piggate scandal is about the rich boys getting an easy ride to the top, itâs about making a figure of terror into a figure of ridicule, about the working class seeing the upper classes in a particular light.Â

Itâs funny to see people on buses, trains, or in any wifi-less surroundings, looking through old text messages.Â
Can we not bear to look up even for a second? Can we not bear to think our  thoughts?
