oh my god bruh. i typed out this huge post in my drafts and it posted only half of it for some reason so i deleted it in a panic and now i have to start all over again HELP ME
anyway i'm back with the fashionposting and this time we will be inspecting some of my favourite outfits from sq bc i love her very much and she knows what she's doing fashionwise. also bless whoever is doing the wiki bc i swear all these pics weren't there before
so i love sq's fashion bc it's always just so fun! she just grabs colours shoves em together and has the style to MAKE them work. i already talked about her classic outfit here so that saves me typing it out again but i am a big fan of that outfit
FIRST LOOK
first let's go into silhouette. here she has utilised the massive jacket tiny shorts strategy. it's a classic really bc it just works like you get to have a boxy shape going on but when you're also going for legs it makes sure the silhouette has some variation and creates space also for whichever socks tights or boots you want to draw attention to. one thing to note is that if you're not careful this can look kind of top heavy but to this problem sq has said NOT TODAY!! and eliminated it with those big bulky boots to balance things out.
the big jacket also gives a sort of plush look which ties into those fluffy fluffy boots! something i really like about this look is that she hasn't just thrown more fur in in an attempt to coordinate the fur at the bottom bc in this case i think it may be a little too on the nose and perchance even busy up top. this is why the edges of the denim are frayed. this gives a suggestion of fur trim without actually being fur.
the colour scheme is a simple one and it is effective. white and blue seldom fails. her usual bright hair makeup n nails (i love her nails so much) add fun pops of colour but rest assured that this is not merely coincidence! you'll notice that the stars on the jacket are a slightly different greener hue which makes it look like a bright colour amongst the softer blue. the actual brightness is pretty similar between the two shades so it doesn't clash and still looks cohesive. the stars themselves are a nice reference to the stars on her original outfit.
overall this look is very fun and casual which fits with her personality. of course denim is conventionally casual and the hardware on the belt adds to this. her hair looks like she just got out of the pool and let it dry into these lovely waves.
here we also see the return of the famous gnosia sleeveless turtleneck and it's a triumphant return indeed! it gives a divalicious flash of shoulder with the jacket draped around her. she looks so good in a bun and having her hair up and out of the way creates space for all of this to happen. but of course there is also a lot of empty space on the turtleneck so she has filled this with a tasteful necklace. ALWAYS accessorise gang!!
SECOND LOOK
you can only see part of this look but anyone who has played the style boutique/style savvy series knows that this is a solid APRIL BONBON look!! and yeah it makes sense she'd love the lively style!
here we see her wrapped up nice and warm for the winter. her hair is playfully spilling out and we have all these fun colours going on amongst the black. i really like the combination of this teal polka dot plaster with the pale pink lipstick bc obviously teal and pink look good together. and they look even better with the hot pink heart there too. but also i think a lot of people are afraid of such light shades of lipstick but look at this. BE NOT AFRAID. it can look so adorable!
something else fun i noticed is that with the way the badges are arranged they kinda look like bubbles!
THREEE
ok excuse the low res on these 😭 i added her acrylic stand too bc yuri is standing in the way on the original pic (sorry yuri)
similarly to the first look she's gone for a baggier jacket(?) (i'm just gonna call it a jacket even tho it looks like it doesn't open) with an otherwise form fitting outfit. now we know what sq is like she likes to show off her figure and ofc this is accentuated by this big jacket! and overall it adds interest to the silhouette. furthermore cropped jacket with form fitting outfit is super futuristic to me. it's like the clothing equivalent to a SHARP bob. and of courseee we have the massive boots so it doesn't all look top heavy which we especially need here bc of the big helmet.
the colours are super cute too like i LOVEEE hot pink!! with the stark white it all looks very clean. on a bit of a tangent she sure does wear a lot of pink for someone who apparently dislikes it according to the wiki. strange. anyway she knows what she's doing bc not even the black cat tail escaped coordination bc it's there in the toe caps of the boots and a little bit on the bottom of the jacket.
i'm also a big fan of the cat ears. like sure it's the point of the art that everyone is like. cat astronauts so it's not specific to this look but still
LOOK NUMBER FOUR
now i said i'd talk about this look from her in my raqio post so now it's time to do so. this is an absolutely gorgeous yet foreboding look from her!!
first let's direct our attention to the colour scheme. we seldom see sq in black but oh my god. saying that it suits her is an understatement. the red and gold make her hair colours integrated into the colour scheme. the parts that normally look yellow look like a shining gold here. she also has a pretty gold eyeshadow which is subtle but it's there! the red gemstones (rubies? garnets?) are amazing here. they look like droplets of blood which bring some of that foreboding in.
of course i've made it no secret that i LOVE asymmetry in fashion so you know i was thrilled to see these asymmetrical gloves and one shoulder moment. you'll see that the black fabric sparkles and there's a little lace at the edges of one of the gloves as well as a bow in her hair and at the back of the dress. this all combines and it really reminds me of madonna's style in the 80s. if you've ever seen desperately seeking susan (amazing movie for fashion btw) you'll know what i mean. i think this is suchhh an amazing look for her!
now it's time to address the ram in the room. that massive golden ram skull in her hair. it is big bold and BEAUTIFUL!! remember those blood looking gems i mentioned earlier? the skull ties in perfectly with those and we even see a couple of them hanging from it.
on a side note here let this be a lesson. so this ram skull would absolutely qualify as a statement piece right? now normally when you have a statement piece you'll have people telling you to wear plainer and simpler items as the rest of the outfit to 'let it shine' or something. listen to me when i tell you that often, following this surprisingly common advice will just dull down your overall look (i mean it can be done well sometimes but imo that's seldom). you actually want to keep adding more statement pieces (AS LONG AS they're well chosen but like. that's a whole other discussion) and i'm about to show you why with this sq outfit as an example! (i'm just really passionate about this 😭)
now you can see that she is combining statement pieces here. she's going the whole hog bc what do we have as well as the skull? we have this massive gold necklace with the red gems in it and it looks gorgeous. without this necklace the outfit just wouldn't be the same. we'd have uneven drip distribution. the skull would actually be appropriate given that a statement piece with nothing else of note can often create a barren desert of an outfit unless carefully thought out. long story short she had made the RIGHT decision to continue accessorising! well done sq!!
so we've established a dark theme with the skull and blood imagery but look what else we have. these pretty gold stars in her hair! they're just. REALLY pretty and once you've spotted them it helps you to see the night sky in the black sparkly fabric so you suddenly see this celestial theme spread all the way through. of course the sparkle is subtle in the black as not to make it too busy but it also conveys the emptiness of space when you look at it this way. overall it's almost like earth and the heavens given that a skull like that is something you'd only really find firmly on the earth.
some final notes are that the stars on the skull and her usual heart makeup are here bc she's sq. of course she's gonna have some fun little stars and hearts around the place and i love her for that. she's also painted her nails a single colour for this which makes everything more cohesive.
NOW LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!
I AM OBSESSED. i don't even know how best to organise my thoughts on this one so bear with me
let's start with colours again. once again we have the gold and red which go with her hair. on the kimono we have this beautiful gradient almost akin to the strawberry lemonade i got once. it goes from red at the bottom to a cerise and then a deep rose pink into a pale pink. now it's important that the pale pink is at the top because that's where the red details are and this creates the necessary contrast for them to pop. the pattern is a paler pink which sort of fades out towards the top which means there's no harsh line where it ends. the pattern is gold at the bottom which grabs attention and balances out the abundance of gold details at the top. there are also parts of white and a single touch of pastel green on the obi (80% sure that's what it's called) and this sort of gives me strawberries and cream. finally we have some black accessories going on. without these, this would be a very cute pretty look but adding some edge with the black and hardware makes it more multifaceted i guess? it adds depth
the whole look also flows in a way which is really pretty. obviously the kimono flows nicely but this is echoed with the swirly pattern and the ribbons hanging from the parasol.
we also have a lot of things hanging from various points like tassels and bells which i think would create such nice movement in the outfit as well as sound as she moves which is a super cool thing to consider for a still illustration!
all of the details are very nicely distributed throughout the look. fur trim is always a good look!! it appears round the shoulder area as well as on the pom poms on the shoes and of course the big fluffy tail. the big bow is accompanies by smaller bows on the sleeves and gold ones on the shoes. there are these stripey things which i think i've seen in traditional japanese fashion before but i'm not sure what they're called? anyway it looks super fun and she's got it on the obi and on the leg to break up all the empty leg space. there are shiny bells everywhere which come off as very playful and this playfulness is also conveyed in some of the asymmetry such as the colours in the big bow and the differing trim colours at the ends of the sleeves. there are flower motifs in the parasol and the kimono print as well as the actual flower in her hair. her makeup also just looks cool here.
i love an elaborate outfit on sq because it shows that coordination is NO JOKE to her!! every little detail is accounted for like. even the wood colour on the parasol matches her tail colour??
one final detail is that mark on the mask (if you know you know) and it's pretty much like she's just wearing her as an accessory LOLLL but anyway do note that it's black just like the edgier elements of the outfit.
END OF POST!!! yeah so whoever was designing these outfits COOKED!! they have me flabbergasted with just. everything. and once again if you made it to the end thank you for reading!!
(oh my god. i edited a couple words and this disappeared from my drafts and i was so scared i'd have to type it out a THIRD TIME but it just went ahead and posted it and that's why it wasn't in my drafts. PHEW)
