You can find me at other sites. However, I don’t think there will be much separation between my SL pictures, my shop updates, and my non-SL hobbies. I appreciated tumblr’s ability to manage several blogs at once but at the moment, it’s decided to implode.

I will still post to this tumblr when possible, but keep in mind that this blog will be completely SFW from now on (it was generally before, but it’s a hard and fast rule now!)

How to fix texture seams? (Second Life)

I’ve been looking into the Maitreya body, because everyone says the Kemono looks young (that annoys me) and also it’s butt is too big/not something you can change.

But I am a little put off by Maitreya. First, the heavy price tag, it’s almost 3k for the body alone, then 600 for the flat chest, and apparently you have to buy nipples seperately too? Wtf.

But more importantly, the UVs. Maitreya use default Second Life skin UVs which are HORRIBLE to work with, personally, because of TEXTURE SEAMS! If you are unaware, the default SL skin textures cut at the waist, and up the sides.

The Kemono doesn’t have this problem, the UVs are a lot simpler and don’t cut at the waist, and the texture is half of the body so it’s symmetrical by default.

So how do you fix texture seams? It feels like they are unavoidable. I have to work hard to avoid them even on simple UVs like the Kemono, on textures with more breaks it just ends up looking very bad.

Also if there are any other bodies that work as flat chested/androgynous, and are supported with a lot of clothes, please tell me… I was going to look at the Avatar 2.0 but people have told me not to, because “the rigging is bad.”

For Maitreya or any other SL UV, I usually just paint on the SL body in a 3d program to avoid seams. I always have done this and I don’t think it’s worth the trouble to match up by hand.

If you really value working with textures, AV2 is okay. The fitmesh rigging is weird and also not a lot of people have updated their clothing for it, but the pre-fitmesh version was a decent base for me before I switched over to Kuroo. Try demos, use your shape sliders, and get crafty to cover gaps/holes. If you are an avid modder who wants to do fun stuff like making transparent ghosts or glowing emissive skins or retexturing clothing or stuff like that, I would definitely just stick with 2.0 until something better comes along. Which is sure to happen - people are always working on new bodies. The 2.0 is cheap enough to use temporarily until that happens.

If you want to shop at the latest events and use other people’s products, Maitreya may be worth it. Keep in mind that you don’t actually have to buy the v-tech nipples separately; most skins HAVE nipples. That’s really more if you want 3d nipples with piercings. Modding on Maitreya is significantly more limited, but there’s a lot of great products out there for it. If you’d rather go shopping for new stuff and do your own modding/customization sparingly, Maitreya + v-tech can be worth it.

note to bento creators

please don’t use the tail bones on your dongs, that is not what the tail bones are for. the hind leg bones work fine and don’t interfere with other common items. in general, unless what you are replacing is a tail, it’s probably a bad idea to touch those bones.

also please make no ear/nonbento ear versions of heads, i have gotten so many ims about “why are my ears/side of the head deforming?” from people and all i can tell them is that their brand of head is causing the issue.

i have now found a bento vagina rigged to the tail bones and it just started animating with my tail and i’m very disturbed
