Shreveport is a fascinating slice of #Americana. On one side of the Red River, it’s a riverfront casino complex. On the other, downtown is abandoned. In 1954, it was devastated when six prominent Shreveportians were killed in a plane crash. Its economy seemed to recover during the oil boom in the 1970s, but when oil prices crashed in the 1980s, the city again fell into a lull. It reminds me of the mining ghost towns of the West, but with huge brick and mortar buildings.
