Week 8 Journal

This week I spent adding a confirmation code validation methods to my app. It didn't require to much coding but I was definately doing more reading and learning of Ruby and more about rails. I feel significantly more confident in my ability to code Ruby and Rails.

I need to update my data model and start working on associations for the next week. I also need ot keep updating some of the views to better fill out what I actually want to say. One upcoming thing I need to think about is if I want to keep a single sessions model or move to seperate models for: * standard sessions -- like Green Dot and Convcation * seminar sessions -- that are with faculty for drafting an orientation essay * affinity sessions -- for receptions and such for identity groups and special populations like veterans * c2c session -- community to community sessions

I also am thinking of how to intergrate into the design weekend orientation schedules.

Fixtures

As I have been building out this project I have been using testing and TDD techniques to slowly build my project. By now I have 25+ tests and require the use of test fixtures to efficently test my models. I also finally wrote my first intergration test today.

My current process, this should work, it worked last night, but alas it does not.

Orientation Mockups

I have completed mockups of the wireframe so at this point, the app steps you through on each confirm. I still need to fill out the designs for C2C and Session/Preview selections.

Workflow updated

I have updated the workflow, the big change is adding a session, while this app does not require a login per se. A session, that is authenticated through a registration code, is still to move onto preferred pronouns and name.

Week 7 Journal

This week I spent a lot of time finishing up mock-up of my wireframes. I was able to finsih off my templates and I reorganized my routes.

Seminar Session Assignment

This week, I started to look at ways to assign session to students. The basic alogrithm would be to do a round-robin approach. That is, starting a list seminar session in descending order of seats available, the algorthim will select first the session with the most seats first, then moving that session to the end of the list. This keeps relatively simple in complexity since it works as a FILO queue.

I wrote this up in Python as a mock-up and will port that over to ruby for use in Rails.
