Manikin leaned back at the screaming, covering her ears to get rid of the sound. Goodness gracious, he really was a hothead, even if he was denying it like the plague. She was almost scared her eardrums would burst, but she stragihtened herself out, fixing her things on the table. Heat. Nice name. Fitting. Kinda made him look like some kinda J-rock star too.

“I’m Manikin. New kid, gonna get in trouble for absences soon. You don’t seem like the type to go to class much either, huh?”

Heat calm down back a second later and let out a huff. “I skip classes when I don’t need to show up. Like hell I care about correcting homework and all that shit. I show up only for tests.” It worked for him, even if his attendance is terrible.

“Manikin is a weird name, just saying. But so is Heat, I guess.”

“I skip classes when I don’t feel like going. And Mondays, because I’ve gotta go all the way to the city and get either pumped with chemicals or drugged with pills, and like hell I’m gonna stress myself out with class before that.” That, and class was just boring. She could finish her work anyway, right? 

“And it’s a nickname, but I go with what I think of myself as. Plus all names are kinda weird. Might as well embrace it. Maybe we can meet up sometime to practice when we’re both out and find something to do?”

“You trying to ask me out or something?” He asked, a bit confused. Do girls normally ask people to go places with them? Well then again, Manikin was kind of weird. Heat had already figured that out ages ago. She probably didn’t even mean it like that.

“Not in the least.” Manikin scoffed slightly at the date comment, amused. “I think as far as guys I’d ask out, you’re at the bottom of the list. Like, below sea level.” It was a little harsh, but way true. It helped that she was 500% sure he wasn’t interested in her.

“My lips are sealed. Anyway, I’ll look for you sometime. We’ll find some way to do something. Maybe we’ll actually improve some, huh? I’ve got the odd feeling that the art club’s based more towards things like drawing and painting than sculpting so I’ll need at least one kid I know to keep from getting left alone.”

He had been cleaning up a bit around the class. He liked everything neat and tidy, it brought peace to the place when ever it wasn’t so peaceful. But it was a surprise to him when he heard the knock and more so when it was a new face.

“Ah, hello there. I am guessing you are a new student? Even if so I’d be happy to talk with you, feel free to have a set.”

She quickly took up the offer for a seat, cracking her legs slightly but giving a smile anyway as she thought through what all she needed to say. She felt kinda guilty for the poor guy, but her thoughts quickly changed as she examined him. He looked like he’d fit in with her figure-world, somewhere…Maybe a friend to the figure of the shortless boy she hadn’t been able to place? Or maybe part of a different city of universe. She mused of this, glancing off into the cieling for a moment before remembering she should probably awnser him.

“I just got here, but I’m having a little trouble.” She started off. “The steps are too hard to get up, and even getting down takes twice the time they give us between classes, and I don’t wanna get into a lot of trouble over it. And I can’t come to afternoon classes on Monday ‘cause I have to head into the city. Can y’help me make sure I don’t end up failing for having too many tradies or anything like that?”

” Hum I see.” He says contemplating inside of his head. ” Well I suppose if you’d like I can arrange to have an after school meet up to help you keep up with the class. But otherwise I’m not so sure what I can do, as much as i’d love to help you.”

“I can do things online?” She suggested, trying to be helpful. After all, it wasn’t this guy’s fault her cells were being bratty, as much as she’d love someone to blame. Reqally, she knew it wasn’t anyone’s fault she was sick, though it was still kind of her fault for not getting much done. She knew that it she’d put more effort into it, she probably could’ve graduated on time originally.

Ah, but laziness was something she could ignore, for now. She understood the need to work and make things easier for everyone. “I’m pretty good at doing things on my own when I can! Just tell me what I need to do. I'd rather not drag you down or anything like that.”

Manikin remembered her nightmare vividly— too vividly. It was more like a memory. She remembered having hope, and then crumpling at someone’s hands. I didn’t help that they were hands she recognized, better now than ever. The hands, the body, the face…She knew them. They’d transcended her own mental reality and become real in the form of her classmate.

And that was how she ended up slamming her fist to his door at roughly three in the morning, not caring that she was barefoot and had scraped her ankles getting there, nor that she was in her nightrobe (which differed very very slightly from her day robe, honestly), nor that there were tears running down her cheeks.

Sure, this was the boy’s dorm, and she didn’t actually know who his roommate was, but she had to get there words out. She had to know why she had this nightmare, weather or not Naoki knew.

It was another one those nights where Naoki couldn’t sleep early. He had a tendency to be awake during odd hours at a time, but this time it wasn’t so bad. He had happen to fall asleep on the couch this time, because he decided to play a game on his DS since Heat was doing something on the bed. Probably art related, he didn’t know. The student happened to get too addicted to the game and suddenly it was 2 o’clock in the morning. The next thing he remembered was waking up to a loud banging. Was it Heat freaking out again?

He slowly sat up, wondering what time it was. The Sun wasn’t even out and it was like he didn’t sleep for very long, which was true. Scratching his head, Naoki got up , almost stumbling into the Television set. 

“Shit.” he mumbled. Figuring it was someone knocking on the door, Naoki approached the door slowly (and with caution). Rubbing his eye with his free hand, the third year answered the door. It was…that girl from earlier?

It quickly occured to Manikin that showing up so early in the morning with no plan whatsoever might not’ve been the best course of action. Especially in an unfamiliar lpace that she was brand new to. She quickly pressed her eyes to her sleeves and strung together a sentence.

“I-I. . .I had a nightmare.” She startted, then realized how silly that sounded. “One about you. The tattooed you. I need. . .to say something about it. I just need to.”

Sakahagi grumbles as he dishes out the girl’s selection, and sets it roughly on her tray. Looking at her again, he does happen to notice that their hoodies sort of… match. Huh, is that what she was talkin’ about…?

Well, whatever. She still annoys him just as much as anyone else in this place. Though, something about her face is… interesting.

Sakahagi sets down his utensils and folds his arms over his chest.

“…New here, or somethin’? First time I’ve seen you in line.”

It takes a good amount of her strength to not end up dropping her tray when he put it down, which annoyed her just a bit, but she’s distracted by the sound of the cutlery and the question. He’s actually . . .making conversation?

Huh, maybe he’s not entirley a douchebag. Or maybe he’s worse than a douchebag. She hadn’t decided yet, but none the less she offers a smile and looks up at the man. Not the msot relaxed or comfortable smile, but enough to show she was intimidated by him as she was of tiny goats.

Well, Serph wasn’t expecting that answer. Probably because where he came from everyone had these. Gang symbols. They marked your rank. And well, they really hurt to get so usually people didn’t talk about them much. Unless your rank was brought up, they were just there to look interesting, really. It’s not like they gave you any sort of crazy powers, though that would’ve been nice.

He nodded, saying that it was alright. “And…it’s permanent.”

Maria quickly got to work on sketching, trying to look both at him and the paper at the same time. She felt bad that she might take a minute, but it was such an interesting mark. . .

"How'd you get it? You don't seem old enough to get a tattoo, unless you met one of those shady guys with the cigarettes." She asked, curious. She'd never really been interested in those marks, really (though it'd been suggested that she get tattooed makeup at times) but right now, it caught her interest.

Hikawa’s fingertips drum lightly upon the padded leather of one of the chair’s armrests.

“…Very well. I’ll forward it as soon as we’re through here.”

He quietly bristles at the sudden mini-torrent of questions that follows.

“Yes, yes of course- speak with your teachers,” he says, a tiny hint of impatience showing through. “It is equally as important for you to attempt to facilitate your own education as it is for others to reach out and facilitate you.”

Hikawa pauses to close his eyes for a moment, then reopens them.

“…And,” he continues, looking back at the monitor and clicking the mouse a few times, “it does not yet appear that you have been assigned a roommate. That is all the information available to me at this time, as I am not directly responsible for managing the housing arrangements.”

Manikin noticed his increasing annoyance, though it gave her an odd sense of success. Nyeh nyeh you have to help stu~dents. Needless to say she didn’t let this show in her expression or out loud. She’d rather he not snap and rip her jaw from her face like a Mortal Kombat character.

“So I’m not going to get called over here every time I miss a few classes, right?” She asked, suppressing her thoughts though she took much amusement in them. “And that’s all we need to talk about for now?”

She couldn’t help but want to ask more about roommates, though. She really hated the idea of sharing her room honestly, though she wondered if actually staying with someone would change that. More so, it amused her that Hikawa would have to have a roommate more. What did that terrible hair look like first thing in the morning? What did his PJs look like? Did they have the same pattern as that horrible suit?

Hikawa folds his hands atop the desk. 

“I will be tracking your attendance, as is the case with all students who have been reported for missing classes. There may be… some leeway, given your condition. However, I would strongly suggest that you act quickly to make the necessary arrangements to keep up with your peers. Otherwise, disciplinary action cannot be avoided.”

Hikawa leans back and crosses one leg over the other.

“And yes, I believe we are done here for today. You may now leave.”

 Manikin rocked back onto her feet, streching her arms upward and outward. She was kind of relieved this would finally be over, because God, she just couldn't focus past that horrible fashion sense. He only slightly intimidated her now, for some reason. That suit was just. . .not pretty. 

On the other hand, looking around, the office itself was a tad terrifying. All this weird stuff. . .She didn't even understand it, and it creeped her out. Hopefully he wasn't some evil demon summoning madman or anything. Or someone who skinned pretty girls who can't run. That'd be unfortunate. 

"So I guess I'll see ya around if I need anything else? I should go uh. Talk to teachers and all that fun stuff." This felt really awkward though, yeugh.

“I’m really curious now…But yeah, I just got here, really.” Manikin mumbled, wrapping her palm around the shirtless boy figure for a bit. It occurred to her that she had no place for him right now. She hadn’t back then, and now even less so since she’d had to squeeze her figure display so small. She was still trying to set up the bridge pieces and sand piles.

She thrust her hand out towards him, offering over the figure despite her slight sentimental attachment. “Do y’want him? He hasn’t got much of a home with me anyway.”

“Huh?” Oh, so she wanted to know? How could he possibly explain something like that to her? As nicely and detailed as possible? The details weren’t the issue honestly, it was just strange. 

“I might tell you another time, if I’m able to.” He shook his head. “Just now isn’t a good time.”

Naoki blinked. The girl was offering him that? Where would he put it? More so what would Heat think? It could have been something else to argue over, but Naoki didn’t want to turn the girl down and hurt her feelings. Still, the situation was awkward enough as is, and he didn’t like hurting girl’s feelings. 

“Sure, I guess.” He said as he took her art piece from her. “Thanks?”

Manikin allowed her smile to grow some as he took the figure. She felt this odd sense that she could trust him with this figure, though she also felt wariness. Something about him made her feel intimidated. She wasn't quite sure what she felt about him, except that the figure belonged with him. 

"Think of it as a token of friendship, I guess! Or at least a symbol of new meetings. Somethin' cheesy like that." She added, after a second. "I guess there's some weird stuff goin' on here, huh? This place's nothing like anywhere I've ever been before!"

Hikawa turns his chair back to his computer, and frowns a bit as he goes through several layers of passwords and tedium to access the school’s medical records for the girl. Even in his position, such irksome rules apply to when and how one may access students’ health information… But, he soon pulls up the record and verifies that yes, the diagnosis is there, and doctors have submitted all the required documentation to the medical department.

“Hmm, I see.” Hikawa minimizes the file and faces her. “Such a pity,” he says, leaning over a bit to prop his head up on one arm. “And while an elevator would no doubt ease your suffering, I’m afraid it is not something that can occur without significant and costly changes to the building. Not to mention… the approval of my superiors.”

Honestly, an elevator? He sighs lightly. “I will submit a request if you’d like, but if such a project is approved, it will likely take months to be completed. You’ll need to make other arrangements for now, because… students must maintain a certain level of achievement in their classes if they wish to continue attending this school. There is only so much leniency, even when health is a concern.”

Hikawa thinks for a moment. He hates the thought of these… special accommodations… Ideally, all students would simply fit the mold. But, for now he must abide by Igor’s wish to bend the institution around students’ individual needs whenever possible.

“There is… one other student for whom we’ve allowed certain arrangements to be made with his teachers to enable him to receive his education outside of the classroom. Akinari Kamiki… Perhaps you should speak with him.”

“Akinari Kamiki. Alright.” She comitts the name to memory, deciding against asking for details. This guy’d gone back quickly to his ability to not blink ever, simply to piss her off. Why didn’t he blink? Why was his suit so ugly? Why were his eyebrows so low? Why was his hair styled like that? Why!?!? She just…didn’t get it. And to top it off he was kinda scary still! 

“I’d like a request, at least. This isn’t exactly my ideal, but the studio I wanna work at won’t let me apply without a high-school degree, so I can’t risk dropping out.” And even then she knew it’d be living hell unless she could manage through college and all. She really hoped she could find someone to complain to a bit who didn’t have the fashion sense of a rotten potato.

“Is there anything I should do other than that? Visit my teachers and ask them about things and set up my room? Do I have a roommate yet or do I have to wait a while longer?” She asked, a bit curious. She hoped her roommate liked the smell of clay.

Seraph smiled brightly at the student in front of her. Sure, she got that a lot but it didn’t irritate her at all. “Thank you very much. I honestly can’t really explain how I got them though.” She wasn’t exactly a major expert on genetics, but she really wished she had an adequate explanation for it.

Manikin hadn't paticularly looked into genetics, either, but she assumed it was the same as the thing that caused two different colored eyes.  .Hectochromania or something like that? None the less, she admired the combination.

"It's nice, none the less. You kind of look like a balck and white picture. It's really awesome. . ."

Loki noticed a interesting student, wearing a robe that really didn’t seem to be the norm for most students to wear. She did look similar to the lunch worker though now that he remembers. Did they know each other perhaps..? Well that didn’t really matter right now though. “Oh, Hello. Nice to have you in my class then~” 

Manikin gave a slight nod of respect at her elder, then clearing her throat as she continued.

"I was wondering if you have any way that I could make up assignments and participation things online instead of in class?" She asked, quickly adding on to explanation  "My attendance has never been good for health problems, so I'd like the option of not having to come up the stairs every single day so I don't end up collapsing."

“Uh, alright then?”

As soon as she got confirmation, she took off for her room, as quickly as she could manage at least. Several times she had to stop for air and strength, and climbing onto two stacked chairs to reach her boxes wasn’t too pleasant either. None the less, she had to dig through several, rummaging through every single figure with gentle fingers. More manikins who didn’t quite fit, dragons, weird demon thingies… There! The shirtless boy! 

She hooked her finger around his forearm, pulling him up and looking over him. There was far too much resemblance. Sure, the shirtless boy had tattoos everywhere, but none the less the faces were the same and the hair, too. She’d always been fond of him because of the slight smile and the time she’d spent painting every single tattoo. It’d taken several times to get it satisfactory, at that. 

After she finished admiring her work, she carefully slid down off the chairs, nearly falling forward and grabbing onto the desk, then preparing to return, making sure the door was closed behind her before she returned to the best running pace she could manage.

As he finally returned to her sight, she grasped her fingernails into the wall and held the figure out in her palm, though protective of it. 

“I… I made this, about two years ago. Look at it.”

When she came back, presenting the picture she made that looked like…

Fascinating.  She was one of the manikins from the other world. Was it possible? Well, of course it was! This girl drew a picture of Naoki when he was the Demi-Fiend, and it was amazing she still remembered. It almost made the boy speechless. Maybe everyone involved, the more important people anyway, they still remembered. So, that meant Hikawa did too… He’d have to take care of him later.

“It’s nice,” Naoki said with a smile. “You still remember me? It’s been a long time. Do you know my actual name? I’m afraid I didn’t catch yours at that time. My name is Naoki Kashima. You could still call me Shura, if that’s easier for you to remember.”

No wonder why she looked interesting, the girl was a manikin, or at least she was. It was a good feeling to know everyone was doing alright.

Manikin pressed her thumb-pad into the figure some, bothered some by his talking. She didn’t remember anything… He’d just been a figure with no place in the muddoll city until now, and it was creeping her out that his place right now was in front of her and not on her little clay figure.

“I don’t understand.” She sighed, slightly defeated. There just wasn’t any memory from any time before this. “I don’t think I’ve met you before. Nice to meet you, though, Shura.”

After all, she might as well get to know him. Maybe it’d give her an awnser for how she’d ended up making such an odd figure. Maybe she did, in fact, know him from somewhere or sometime before now. She offered a smile. “I’m uh. Maria  Kenton. Call me Manikin.”

No one has a right to just play God or whatever unless you yourself were born..not human. What he was really talking about was Louis. It was a complicated thing. Naoki believed no one here had the right to do as this please. That could also be said for him, because he hated the idea of someone stronger than him. He wanted a life where no one could tell him what to do, not anymore.

Hospitals actually smelled more like alcohol, jello, and death, but it was the same general smell category, and that’s what matters.  Plus, Manikin liked how the clay almost never showed on her skin and how she could make her own world with them, without having to worry about constraints and thoughts.

“I just don’t mind it. I’ve always been in the big city, with all the lights and shut-ins.” She laughed slightly, amused by it. “I always wanted to live in a small city, though, and I guess I got my wish moving here! It’s just close enough to the city to let me head there in a timely manner on Monday, but just small enough that I don’t have to deal with all that. Was it a big step up getting to come to a fancy school like this, or what?” She asked, actually curious.

“You actually think this place is small?” It was about the size of his whole neighborhood, excluding the small shopping center ten minutes away. The Junkyward was separated into smaller sections, but his side was the smallest. It was also a bit weird, since the architecture was odd and it looked as though half his house was underground. “I can barely find my way around, really. Then again, I came from some shitty place far away.”

Heat didn’t see what was so great about big cities. They looked loud and annoying. Maybe it was just a girl thing. Most girls are weird anyways.

“I was from a really big city, I guess.” She seemed cheerful about it anyway, though her eyes moved to focus on the ceiling instead as she thought over it. She’d been denied a map (somethin’ about hard mode?) or she’d offer her hand in help. 

“Ah well, I guess that doesn’t matter. Do I get to know the name of the guy who devoured my lunch like a horse, or do I get to know yuo as ‘Hot-headed Princess Ariel’ for the rest of the year?” Manikin, switching subjects some.

“Hot—Who’re you calling a hot head?!” He literally screeched, not caring so much that his voice practically echoed through the room. Funny, it almost sounded a lot like a certain chemistry teacher Heat didn’t want to mention at the moment. 

He slammed his fist on the table, causing the things on the table to bounce. “My name is Heat, alright? And no need for the damn stupid puns people make from my name. Yeah, I fucking get it—Heat rises.” Like he hasn’t heard that one before in his life. 

“So who’re you then, you crazy lady?”

Manikin leaned back at the screaming, covering her ears to get rid of the sound. Goodness gracious, he really was a hothead, even if he was denying it like the plague. She was almost scared her eardrums would burst, but she stragihtened herself out, fixing her things on the table. Heat. Nice name. Fitting. Kinda made him look like some kinda J-rock star too.

"I'm Manikin. New kid, gonna get in trouble for absences soon. You don't seem like the type to go to class much either, huh?"

“Uh, alright then?”

As soon as she got confirmation, she took off for her room, as quickly as she could manage at least. Several times she had to stop for air and strength, and climbing onto two stacked chairs to reach her boxes wasn’t too pleasant either. None the less, she had to dig through several, rummaging through every single figure with gentle fingers. More manikins who didn’t quite fit, dragons, weird demon thingies… There! The shirtless boy! 

She hooked her finger around his forearm, pulling him up and looking over him. There was far too much resemblance. Sure, the shirtless boy had tattoos everywhere, but none the less the faces were the same and the hair, too. She’d always been fond of him because of the slight smile and the time she’d spent painting every single tattoo. It’d taken several times to get it satisfactory, at that. 

After she finished admiring her work, she carefully slid down off the chairs, nearly falling forward and grabbing onto the desk, then preparing to return, making sure the door was closed behind her before she returned to the best running pace she could manage.

As he finally returned to her sight, she grasped her fingernails into the wall and held the figure out in her palm, though protective of it. 

“I… I made this, about two years ago. Look at it.”

When she came back, presenting the picture she made that looked like…

Fascinating.  She was one of the manikins from the other world. Was it possible? Well, of course it was! This girl drew a picture of Naoki when he was the Demi-Fiend, and it was amazing she still remembered. It almost made the boy speechless. Maybe everyone involved, the more important people anyway, they still remembered. So, that meant Hikawa did too… He’d have to take care of him later.

“It’s nice,” Naoki said with a smile. “You still remember me? It’s been a long time. Do you know my actual name? I’m afraid I didn’t catch yours at that time. My name is Naoki Kashima. You could still call me Shura, if that’s easier for you to remember.”

No wonder why she looked interesting, the girl was a manikin, or at least she was. It was a good feeling to know everyone was doing alright.

Manikin pressed her thumb-pad into the figure some, bothered some by his talking. She didn't remember anything. . . He'd just been a figure with no place in the muddoll city until now, and it was creeping her out that his place right now was in front of her and not on her little clay figure.

"I don't understand." She sighed, slightly defeated. There just wasn't any memory from any time before this. "I don't think I've met you before. Nice to meet you, though, Shura."

After all, she might as well get to know him. Maybe it'd give her an awnser for how she'd ended up making such an odd figure. Maybe she did, in fact, know him from somewhere or sometime before now. She offered a smile. "I'm uh. Maria  Kenton. Call me Manikin."
