BIOGRAPHY
EARLY BEGINNINGS
Khadroma was born in the small, snowy town of Perm, Russia to a young couple full of hope and promise. However, the USSR wasn't a safe place for dreamers full of hope and her parents were struggling to provide for their small family
When Roma was 5, KGB agents came to their door and took their father away for 'questioning.' He never came back and even at her young age, she understood what that meant
Roma and her mother did whatever they could to get by times were tough. When Khadroma was 16, she was recruited to be a Red Sparrow and though she was weary, the government promised her that her mother would always be taken care of and surprisingly enough, they kept their word
Though she had grown up in a small town, once her training was done, she was suddenly jet-setting around the world. Khadroma got to see Moscow, Paris, London, Rome, you name it. The sparrow work was difficult, unforgiving, and a lot of the times, traumatizing. But it paid well and every cent she made, she sent back to her mother
However, when Roma was 22, her mother was diagnosed with cancer and given a month to live. Taking care of her mother was all she had and she wasn't sure what she would do after her mother was gone. On her death bed, Khadroma's mother made her promise that she would get the hell out of Russia before it was too late
A FRESH START
In 1973, Khadroma set herself up with a mail order bride company in an attempt to make it to America. She was told that she would be marrying a man named Howard Adler. When she got to the states and met her husband-to-be, any hopes of having a loving marriage were dashed pretty quickly. Howard wasn't cruel but he was warm, either. He looked at his young, beautiful wife as a trophy and a sex object and not much else. He also wanted her to be the mother of his children but as she would eventually find out to much dismay, Khadroma was unable to have her own children
Although she was heartbroken that she wasn't able to bear her own children, once again feeling purposeless, she instead convinced her husband to let them foster children instead. Though he certainly wasn't happy about the idea at first, she was able to twist his arm into agreeing
They soon began to foster several children, including Kurt, Cyrek, Ava, Rainbow, Annisa, and Lyonet. Those children were and still are the light of her life and she genuinely loves to care for them
Though she tried to provide the best life for her children, she could only do so much to remedy the pain that they had experienced before they were in her care. In 1986, her eldest son, Kurt, committed suicide and it brought the family's lives to a screeching halt
THE AFTERMATH
Over the years, Khadroma and Howard had had many a disagreement, primarily on how they should raise their children. Howard wanted to rule with an iron fist but Roma, having experienced a difficult childhood herself, had more compassion for her children and the struggles that they faced. However, after Kurt's death, Roma could've sworn that Howard seemed relieved, as if he was happy that he'd no longer have to deal with the 'burden' of their eldest son. This disgusted her
Over the years, Roma had secretly been saving up money, just in case she and the children had to leave and the time eventually came. Roma filed for divorce from Howard and they're no longer in communication with one another. Breaking free from her husband made Khadroma feel as if a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders
In the midst of her divorce, she met Dustin Graves and the two fell deeply in love. In 1991, they married and welcomed their son, Lionel, into the family
Throughout her lifetime, she's watched her children battle numerous challenges: depression, drug addiction, eating disorders, among other things. However, she still tries her best to be there for her children and support them however she can. She is not afraid to be blatantly honest with hertw children when necessary but she truly was made to be a mother
She now owns the Mean-Eyed Cat bar downtown and loves to meet new people while she's behind the bar. When she's not at work, she can be found spending time with her wife, her children, and/or her grand children. Family is vital to her, considering that her own parents were taken away from her far too soon
She is fluent in Russian and English and she still speaks Russian around the house, though she's perfected her American accent over the years and it would be difficult for a stranger to tell that she wasn't from around these parts
