“What is No Prisoners about?”
No Prisoners, also shortened to NP to be less of a mouthful, follows the choices and trials a former Prince must face when his kingdom is ravaged by war, leaving him the only survivor and a powerful bargaining chip for the other side of the war.
“Where can I read the comic?”
No Prisoners is exclusively on Tumblr and ComicFury, though cameo pages are posted on my DA as well so people can see their characters.
“How frequently is the comic updated?”
The comic is updated whenever I get a page done. This may sound like a crude answer, but I haven’t found a rhythm yet, so expect at least a page a week on any day.
I, the creator, use Procreate on an iPad propped up by a book of choice. I handle writing responsibilities through a few notes I have saved on my phone that I organize frequently and often write up drafts on Docs to review later. This may seem like a questionable work ethic, but it works nonetheless.
“Since it deals with LGBT and disabled rep, is the creator either of these things/and/or has experience with them?”
I sure do. Not only am I myself a sapphic asexual with disabilities like autism, ADHD, anemia, and multiple autoimmune issues, a majority of people I know have disabilities like autism and ADHD, and/or are some form of LGBT. I am not trying to push some “agenda”, I’m just representing what I know in ways that can break the stereotypes I’m tired of getting shoved in my face. In short, yes, it’s safe to say I definitely have some experience with these things.
“Which of your characters is your favorite?”
It’s hard to choose but I have a soft spot for Scarlet. What can I say? I love badass anemic lesbian war criminals.
“This looming long-suffering war, who is it between?”
I can’t reveal too much, but it is between three warring sisters, Crimson, Carmine, and Cerise. An event occurred that drove the throne between them. Cerise and Crimson allied with the promise of a shared throne (also allied with a few other clowders), Crimson allied most noticeably with Scarlet’s Colony and Salmon’s Colony.
“Three warring sisters? That seems a little too close to the book series Wings of Fire, don’t you think?”
It would be if I hadn’t done a different take on it. This series means a lot to me but I didn’t plagiarize this element. There are different relations between the sisters and not all of them are warring. There is not a prophecy, their mother was not killed by humans, and perhaps I need to point this out for anyone who somehow missed it, but they are not dragons. In short, yes, it would be a little too close for comfort to that series if I was blatantly taking this aspect and not changing it at all. I agree that saying they’re cats wouldn’t change anything if they were exact personality copies, but they are not. It’s just a personalized take on a small concept I found interesting.
“It’s clear there is physically disabled character rep, how about characters that are neurodivergent and/or have mental illnesses?”
I myself have both of these things so I made sure to put it into this comic for people like me. There will be more characters as the story expands, but canonically, Sockeye has ADHD, Yosemite has autism (maybe you didn’t notice, and thats good, that means I’m doing what I’m trying to put out: not all autistic people show the “usual” traits of autism. It can be discreet or masked or not what people have been made to expect with stereotypes.), Jett has PTSD and is triggered especially by the mention of crowns, and he definitely has something adhd-like going on that reminds me of my pre-diagnosed self, and one of the other ‘queens’ in the war has schizophrenia. It is important to me that people see stereotypes are stereotypes, not equating to truth or what should be expected, so I’m trying to push this.
“Am I fine to make my own story based on/inspired by this comic?”
For sure! Elements of the story and a few themes within it are inspired by a multitude of others, so it’s not fair to say you cannot be inspired by it when the comic itself took inspiration from many things.
