Sneak peek:Ā He sits near the window, and his breath catches in his throat when he sees her get out of her car. Sheās wearing a long coat, a necklace that drapes down her neckline of her crop top and distressed black jeans. He wonders how anyone can look so effortlessly perfect and not realize it. He wonders if anyone has felt this way before, if the couple sitting across from him have felt that way about each other. He gulps hard and looks down at his drink.Ā

Noah fights the urge to roll his eyes, pencil in his hand and sketchbook laid out in front of him. He didnāt know why he was in this class, why he remotely thought it was a good idea. He ruffles his hair, grunting softly earning him looks from his peers. He fights back the urge to scowl at them, looking back down at his blank sheet of paper.Ā
āStupid classā He mumbles under his breath, pencil hovering over the paper. He was cursing himself in his mind. He was such an idiot, his mother was right. He hears a chair get pulled in front of him, Noah glides his tongue over his teeth - clearly pissed at the sound. Yet, he instantly wishes he didnāt do that. He wishes he didnāt looked so upset, because looking at the person in front of him, he was far from it.Ā
Heās greeted with the eyes heās seen countless times in the past. Eyes he fell into. Eyes that held so much promises, heartbreak, and lost. Eyes that captivated him. Eyes that resented him. Flashbacks of her twirling in his backyard with his sister, Jane. Flashbacks of her laughing at his stupid jokes. Flashbacks of her turning away from him. Flashbacks of her arises.Ā
He gulps hard. She dips her head low, she must feel as uncomfortable as he does. She pushes the chair back in and immediately turns away. He wonders what she sees when he looks at him: a brother in mourning, a creep or aā¦..lost soul. He wonders if she believes the rumors that were said in the hallways, but most importantly he wonders if she ever thought of him. If she regretted disowning him. Leaving him.Ā
āItās okay.ā Noah finds himself saying, his words come out soft, quiet, unsure.Ā āItās fine. No one is sitting there.ā He gestures for her to sit back down, pencil still in his hand.Ā
āI, uh, you sure?ā She asks, hesitation evident in her voice. He catches her briefly looking down at his paper. Heās sure his face pinches at the corners in pain.Ā Itās her voice that hits him the hardest. Itās the same voice that told him, she couldnāt look at him without seeing her.
He covers his paper with his hands, immediately embarrassed at the fact that he hasnāt drawn anything.Ā Itās been awhile since he drew, it was one of the few things he enjoyed doing before his world came crashing down. She pauses, jacket still bundled in her hand. Ā
āYeah, Iām, uh, sure.ā Noah shakes his head quickly after, eyebrows furrowed close together before he looks back down at his paper.Ā
His pencil hovers over his sketchbook the entire class period, nothing drawn, his mind occupied with thoughts of the girl in front of him.Ā
