Missed You //Matt & Noah
“As long as I can avoid all of the more critical reviews until I’ve read at least a hundred praising me, I should be fine,” Matt joked. He trusted his agent and his publisher and knew that they would never let something go to print if it weren’t up to his usual standards, but it was still nerve-wracking to send off something so different. “Honestly? That sounds exhausting, and not just for the two of them. And it’s your business insofar as it impacts your day-to-day life. I assume JB is already aware of how everything is affecting you.” He slowed to a standstill and wrapped his arm around his friend’s shoulder in a half-hug. “How can I help?” he asked. “Out of everywhere he could be, the Evans House is one of the best possible options, but… would money help? Anything you need, it’s yours. Just say the word.”
“Pffft.. reviewers suck. Sometimes they say bad things just to seem edgy. It’s the people who read it and love it that matter most. And also most of the reviewers are gonna love it too. I don’t think you’re editor person would blow smoke up your ass, right?” As they strolled he let out a long sigh. “I just don’t know why he won’t sign the divorce papers. It’s what’s best for both of them and he already knows JB wouldn’t ever keep Selena from him. She’s always going to do what’s best for her even if she’s pissed at him. Maybe, yeah, I mean we live in the same house and everything, but I’m not the one most affected anyway. Just wish I knew how to help.” He stopped walking and chewed on his lip and finally shook his head. “Thanks, but I don’t think it’s honestly going to happen. I’ve been trying to save, but when I talked to Sam Evans he seemed like he was trying to kind of talk me down nicely. I could buy him, but the chances of freeing him are pretty close to zero. Me owning him might be worse than him being where he is, you know? Fuck, I don’t really even know what to do.” He felt tears pricking the corners of his eyes, but fought them.
