Maybe drinking wasn’t all that bad - it’d definitely made him more social. Although, that had some to do with the fact Chris could no longer focus too long on things, let alone people’s expressions. If he was bothering anyone, he hadn’t noticed. The reply at his side had Chris looking up. is own question pushed back when curious eyes landed on the cigarette box the other pulled out. “Can I have one?”
The guys beside him was obviously wasted, something whichwould usually annoy the hell out of Noah after a long shift. However, this guyseemed more controlled, and when he asked for a cigarette, he wasn’t about todeny the stranger. “Sure, man,” He pulled an extra out and handed it to theguy. Soon his own cigarette was lit, and he passed the lighter to his newneighbor, anticipating what the man would inquire about next.
being a bit of a paranoid person because of his line of work, always pushed matty to know as much as he could about those that surrounded him. therefore asking questions had always been easy for him. he looked comfortable as ever as he let out some of his own smoke. “there’s a lot of new people around this place now, so i was making sure. but yeah, i’m an old friend of hers.” he said with a small shrug and then turned to look back at the stranger. “you new in town?”
It wasn’t like he’d even taken a course in security, oranything closely related to it, Noah just trusted his gut and knew he worked outenough to take out the majority of people. He got the guy’s concern, and didn’tdoubt he would have questioned strangers too had he seen the reason to. “No, I’vebeen here for a couple of months. Used to live in the next town over,” Henudged his head in the direction of the street, still happy about his decisionto leave a place where no one had wanted him.
“i could see it.” jenna mentioned nonchalantly, a half smirk on her lips before she burst out in laughter. “is that why we have more dancers now?” a finger pointed towards the entrance of trx jokingly with a shake of her head. “i’m here for as long as veronica’s here. she’s teaching me how to close the bar. so i’m assuming like four? when are you off? don’t you just leave when everyone else leaves?”
”Right?” He joked. “I could wear one of those silent gunsJames Bond runs around with, and have some really bad neck tattoos to match it,”Her laughter was contagious and it made Noah laugh as well before the questionwas proposed. “Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me,” He mused, knowing thatTreeville sure was crazy enough for something like that to happen. “Or maybethe dancers are the best way to encourage people to drink more, I don’t know, I’mnot part of the management, Jen.” It didn’t surprise him that the brunettewould be staying around until the early morning hours as well, and he nodded atthe answer. “I usually do, but tonight have been pretty hectic so far so Iconsidered hanging around afterwards. You know, if someone’s worth talking toafter I get off that is.” The statement was obvious and he couldn’t help butgrin at the brunette, smoking coming out of the corner of his mouth.
“I’ll give you three guesses and the first two don’t count,” he smirked, sticking his own cigarette between his lips so he could dig around in his bag for the familiar shape of his lucky lighter. Jordan was a big fan of clubs, he liked the atmosphere and that special energy that only came from large groups of drunk people flailing about to loud music. However, even Jordan - in all his extroverted glory - needed a bit of a break from the noise before it left his ears ringing for the next three days. Plus, he was practically always craving a cigarette so a smoke break was really a win-win situation. Locating the metal Zippo after a quick search, he handed it to the stranger, resuming his own smoke before it burnt out without him. “So, do you usually carry around a pack of cigs with no lighter? Or is this just your lucky day?”
Noah ignored the comment about guessing, always having hatedthose little games so many seemed to enjoy. However, he was in desperate needof a lighter, and he knew better than to be ignored by someone who helped himout. Accepting the lighter, he was quick to light up, and took a much neededdrag, the smoking seemingly thick in the cool evening air. “Nah, probably justforgot it in my jacket,” He shrugged, taking another drag as he handed thelighter back. “But yeah, I guess it’s just my luck,”
naomi gave him a nod, lifting a hand to wave off thank you. she’d like to assume that he would have done the same had she been in need. the blonde was quick to nod, this time doing so faster since there wasn’t a single doubt in her mind about that. “one hundred percent,” she assured him with a grin. “if there were an olympics for running in heels i’d be the champ, just saying.”
For a moment, the boyish side of him considered sprintingdown the street with the lighter, curious to see if Naomi would be able tocatch him. Perhaps that battle would be fought sometime in the future, but nowwasn’t the moment for it. The comment had him laughing, a cough breaking it ashe moved the cigarette to his lips once again. “Right,” He nodded, a grinplaying on his lips “I honestly don’t doubt that for a moment.”
One of the best features of Treeville had to be the climate; it was never too hot or too cold that one would struggle with finding fresh air, and the wind was almost always inviting. Times such as the present were prime examples of this. She stood with her eyes closed, savoring the moment, until a voice called out. Opening her eyes, she looked over and shook her head. “Nah, I don’t. Sorry.” She raised a fist and uncurled the thumb to gesture toward the pavement. “I think I saw one on the ground over there, but I wouldn’t exactly advise picking it up… Probably only as a ‘last resort.’”
Noah groaned in annoyance, not because of the woman tellinghim she had no lighter, but mostly due to his own forgetfulness. The idea of alighter in the street didn’t exactly scare him, instead his eyes roamed overthe area before spotting it. It took him a few goes to be able to make the fireappear, and after lighting the cigarette, he threw it in the nearby thrash.There was no point in not keeping the pavement outside TRX clean when theopportunity was there. “This was an emergency, so I felt like it’s justifiedthat I picked it up,” He chuckled, mostly at himself. “But thank you, forspotting it and helping an addict.”
jenna took a slow drag from her own cigarette as her brows arched at his question.·“that’s·obviously what i’m·saying.” there was a moment of silence between them while her features remained entirely serious before a small hint of a smile started to form on her lips.·“besides, it’s always the security guards that are shady, y’know.” jenna teased him innocently as she leaned back against the wall of the building.·“like you guys, out of all of us in there, are the most likely to kill someone with your bare hands. all psycho killer and shit.”
It took no longer than Jenna’s last word to be spoken,before he began laughing. Taking a drag from the cigarette, he moved closer toher while listening to her crazy conspiracy. “Right, in reality I’m part ofsome underground smuggle-ring or something, if that’s even what they’re called,”He chuckled again, before examining the people walking past them. “When are youoff today?”
the smile on her face pressed into a thin line upon hearing his question and soon enough her arms were crossed against her chest the same way they previously had been. “i’m not loitering if that’s what you’re implying here. one of my best friends owns this place.” everything about her demeanour turned almost defensive when she spoke till renata let out a breath and her shoulder lifted in a half shrug. “or maybe i’m just waiting for my lighter back.”
Hands put in the air before him, Noah knew not to challengea woman being defensive. Without a second thought, Noah held out the lighterfor her to take, a minor comforting smile on his lips, “You know,” He spoke,his voice soft as his eyes tried to seek out the brunette’s. “We got everythingunder control. We’re more guys now, so if something were to happen, we’ll beable to secure the club within no time,” Carefully, he placed a hand on herarm, knowing that the touch would either frighten or comfort her, but he wasconfident enough to take the chance.
samuel had seen the other around the club every once in a while, but considering TRX wasn’t necessarily his scene (he was only here for vivian tonight), he couldn’t say he knew anything besides he worked for the club. ‘ yeah, ’ he mumbled, digging into his back pocket only to pull out a lighter. it was probably strange to people he knew considering he didn’t smoke consistently, but he did occasionally. ‘ go crazy, ’ he tossed the lighter over. also probably not the best idea, considering vivian had just got the club back up and running after a fire, but he was sure the other didn’t want to see a repeat of that either.
Noah caught the lighter in midair, tilting his headbackwards to show appreciation before putting it to use. He sighed, and closedhis eyes to enjoy the drag of the cigarette, the burning in his lungs, andlooked up to examine the guy. “Thanks, man.” He handed the lighter back, seeingno point in tossing it and risk an incident, no matter the size of it. “Yougoing in?”
hello all you lovely people, here is the basics about my lil’ nug noah;

HE couldn’t have done it, though, because during the incident he WAS SLEEPING WITH A MARRIED WOMAN

a more elaborate bio is here, but i’ll might add more to it in the future when i set the page up on noah’s blog;
When he was younger, everyone thought Noah would be the guy to make it. The one who would end up with the mansion, the hot wife, and the fancy job. However, reality was different from the dream scenarios. Noah didn’t exactly pay attention to homework; too busy engaging himself in sports, girls, and partying whenever given the opportunity. This minor addiction happened to be why he got kicked out of college, his scholarship worthless when he couldn’t keep his grades up. No one finds it entertaining to live with your parents when you were supposed to be an independent adult embracing your freedom.
It didn’t take long before he began working alongside his father, carrying bricks, asphalt, and whatever else was needed in the construction business. Noah knew he wanted a place and future of his own; the question was how to achieve it. After years of enlarging his savings, he finally managed to purchase his own place. Life might not have happened in the way he imagined, but he had enough money to support himself, an excellent apartment and often women were interested in keeping his bed warm.
How everything went so damn wrong, he doesn’t really recall, yet he remembers that a woman approached him just as his shift ended, asking him to fix some tiles in her backyard. She’d pay him under the table, and Noah wasn’t stupid enough to say no to that. Not that the tiles were ever a thing he managed to focus on, as he soon found himself in her bed. It didn’t take long for it to become a routine. Noah would come over whenever she’d summon him, and despite having noticed someone else’s name on the mailbox, he didn’t care. Noah just couldn’t care. So much had gone wrong compared to what he’d imagined his life to be; at least he should be allowed to enjoy himself.
Now, though, Noah has decided to change things up. Sure, the job as a construction worker keeps his body fit, and the money good, but nothing beats the life of working at night. Noticing how the downtown club needed security staff, he was quick to jump in. Oh, and despite having just gotten himself a new job, Noah still checks in on his secret lady from time to time – not that she’s the only woman he’s interested in sharing his bed with.
a club, even trx, had never been matty’s scene. he was more of a bar kind of man, but seeing as ren had wanted to come out and support vivian with re-opening the place, he’d showed up. he’d been standing outside with a drink in one hand and his cigarette attached to his mouth while he checked out his phone when the man approached him. an eyebrow raised, matty pocketed his phone easily and from that very same pocket took out the lighter, giving it to him slowly. “you work here?” he questioned without much of an explanation.
The lighter was offered to him and Noah was quick to acceptit, lighting his cigarette effortlessly. He inhaled as the question was asked,and began his answer with a nod while handing the lighter back to the guy. “Yeah,security.” He took a deep breath, the air inside often moist and unbearable beforetaking another hit of the cigarette between his fingers. “You know Viv?” Hequestioned back, uncertain that a stranger of the club would inquire about hisjob.
“so you mean to tell me you’ve got all those security supplies on you but you don’t have a lighter?” jenna asked sarcastically as she pulled her own cigarette from her lips with a smile before extending the lighter that she held in her other hand towards noah. “there’s a couple stashed in the bar if you ever need one. just make sure it goes back in the same place ‘cause fire hazard and all, y’know?”
Noah knew it was odd for him to lack a lighter when the TRXprovided him with so much more, and understood why Jenna found it amusing. “Thatis very much the case, yes,” He nodded, accepting the lighter and soon taking adrag from his now lit cigarette. “Oh, so you’re trying to say that it’s saferfor the bartenders, who play around with flammable liquids, to play around withlighters than the security squad?” The question was playful, as he let out aquite laugh.
it had been months since the fire and renata definitely believed she could have come back to trx without so much as a hesitation or a thought of the entire halloween incident. however, she was quick to prove herself wrong when she found herself standing outside the entrance, arms crossed against her chest while all she could do was stare at the door, willing herself to go inside. that was, till noah’s voice had brought her back to reality with a snap of her head to the side. “yeah, one second.” she said as she began to look through the purse on her arm and was soon handing him a lighter. “just don’t tell anyone you got that from a doctor.” she joked easily, offering noah a small smile.
It was Noah’s luck that someone was there to help him out,and he wrapped his hands around the lighter with a pleased smile. It had beentoo long since his last break, memories of the fire still strong in his mind, oftenleading him to take several extra routes around the club. “I never light andtell,” He promised with a grin, before taking a drag of the much needed drug.Soon he frowned, suddenly aware of the brunette not moving. “You gonna goinside?” He questioned, finding something slightly strange about the woman’sbehavior. Perhaps it was a side effect of the job.
naomi leaned closer to noah as she saw him leaning in closer to her, knowing that it would be necessary if she had any hope of hearing him over the music. “what?” it took naomi a moment to figure out exactly what he was asking, but looking up and seeing the unlit cigarette in his hand, naomi understood. only seconds later she was digging through the small clutch she had with her, retrieving a lighter and handing it over. “don’t run off with it, though, that one is my favorite,” naomi insisted with a nod. the lighter had, in fact, been a personalized gift. naomi would be devastated if she lost it.
The question made Noah display the cigarette in front ofNaomi, knowing the beat of the music had a tendency to complicate conversations.Most people would detest this kind of work environment, though he’d grownaccustomed to it rather quickly. “Thanks,” he attempted to speak above themusic, even as it seemed hopeless. The comment about running off with Naomi’s lighterhad him chuckling, and after lighting the cigarette he examined the lighter witha teasing grin. “You gonna chase me if I do?” He challenged, the foolish smirkstill on his lips.
Vivian’s own cigarette was removed from between her lips before she spoke. “Careful Noah, you’ll seem unprepared.” The teasing words held no real warning to them as they were uttered. But it was one she hadn’t been able to help when she’d noticed just who the request was coming from. I took her all but a couple of seconds to pass her lighter over. “No fire threads inside, right?” The halloween fire was still something Vivian was working to put past, it was why the extra security at TRX had been hired in the first place.
The playfulness of Vivian’s voice made the corner of his lipturn upwards, as he accepted the lighter. “You know I’m not the type to comeunprepared,” In no time he had the cigarette lit, and inhaled sharply whilesavoring the feeling of the smoke. The question had Noah shake his head whileexhaling, as his eyes examined the scene around them. “No, don’t worry, Viv. Wegot it all under control,” He understood the woman’s fear, seeing as theincident was still on everybody’s lips.
to say that this wasn’t pete’s scene was an understatement. but duty called and that meant that he was going to endure this sweaty mass of people for as long as he had to. mercifully, his mark decided that it was a time for some fresh air and pete ambled out, a few steps behind. his cigarette was lit within a few moments, relishing the ability to hear again. a skill he would evidently need right now as he turned to see someone approach. “it’s your lucky day,” he replied gruffly, handing over the light.
Noah was grateful to have found a fellow smoker and heaccepted the lighter from the man with a small nod of recognition andgratitude. “Thanks, man,” He lit the cigarette effortlessly, inhaling the smokewith pleasure before handing the lighter back. The music could still be heardin the background, and Noah took in the surroundings of the strangers on thestreet. Nights like these could go crazy, and even when taking a much neededbreak he knew to be on watch, “you new around here?” Noah questioned, unsurewhether he had seen the man before.
The sound of electronic music got exhausting after a few hours of a constant bass. Noah sighed as he passed through the crowd, his eyes roaming the scene to assure that everything was as it should be. It took him no time to find the staff exit, pushing the door open, he stepped into the calm evening air. After a deep breath, he pulled out his pack of cigarettes and picked one out. Placing it between his lips, Noah roamed his pockets for a lighter, only to realize his search was pointless. With a puff, he moved towards someone standing next to the club’s entrance. “Excuse me, but uh, do you have a lighter?”
