Chris listened to Sam and felt that he would be a great father. He was so happy to have Sam by his side. “Thanks bro. I was worried for a bit but I’m glad that I have you in my corner.” Chris knew it was time for him to ask Sam a question. “Okay so listen. If anything happens to me, promise me that you will take care of Mercedes and the baby. I need for you to do that for me…please.” Chris knew that he could trust Sam with his most prized possession which was Mercedes and the baby. He needed to know that no matter what, Mercedes and the baby will be protected.

Sam listened to Chris request and had no problem making that promise regardless of how he felt for Mercedes. He loved Chris and would do anything for him. “Of course man. Even though nothing is going to happen to you, I promise to take care of Mercedes and you little munchkin just in case. Just relax and prepare for the new family that you’re about to have. I’m proud of you man. You go after what you want and you’re not afraid of anything..You fave your fears.” Sam gave Chris a bro hug and when he pulled away he said…”Okay…enough sentimental things…Let me kick your ass in COD.” Sam was knew that everything would work out.

Sam listened to Chris and his heart went out to him. He knew Chris would be a great father to his child. He wanted to help him overcome his fears. He didn’t want Chris feeling inadequate. “Listen, you are the best person I know. You will be an amazing dad. The kid will love you and look up to you. Stop siking yourself out. Everything will work out. I’m helping out with the bills around here so you should be good financially. I sleep on the couch and you can turn my room into a nursery if you want. Things will be good because I know you will do whatever you have to do for the baby. Don’t sweat anything.” Sam hoped Chris listened to him. He knew Chris was a great man, he just needed Chris to believe it to.

Sam was in his room playing his video game and relaxing. He didn’t have to be to work until later and he didn’t have to go to his other job yet. So he was taking advantage of his little break. He was just about to beat a level in GTA when he heard a knock at the door. He opened it and saw Chris there. “Hey man, he said as he turned and sat back down on his bed. “What’s going on?”

Chris walked in and sat down on Sam’s beanie bag that he had in the corner of his room. He ran his hand through his hair before he began to speak. “So Mercedes is pregnant and I am freaking out dude. I don’t know how to be a father. I can barely take care of myself let a lone a family. I don’t know what to do.”

When: Monday, April 20, 2015

Where: Doctor’s Office

What: Mercedes and Chris find out if they are going to have a baby.

Mercedes pulled Chris to her and kissed him. “Chris you are doing right by me. And we will figure it out. We can put all my savings into a baby fund. My Checks can go to savings while yours can go to the bills. The baby can sleep in a crib in our room for at least two years so we don’t have to stress about that. Baby we are having a baby and I know we can do this. We have each other, and Sam said he would help. We can do this Chris. We can do this together. I love you so much Chris. We can do this, It will be hard but we can do this.”

Chris instantly relaxed with the kiss that Mercedes laid on him; Chris needed to be as relax as Mercedes. He knew that it was going to be hard but maybe with Mercedes, things will be okay. He had to trust that things will be alright. “I will stop freaking out baby. There is nothing that we can’t do. Where Chris and Mercedes. We will make it. I have faith thanks to you.” He kissed her again, then pulled away gently. “Baby, out your seat belt on.” He put his seat belt on and drove off heading home. Everything was going to be fine, or so he thought.

What: Mercedes and Chris find out if they are going to have a baby.

Mercedes wiped her stomach as Dr. Shaw printing out the sonogram. She was going to be a mom. Her life was changing and she had to be prepared for it. After she was given her prescription and made an appointment for a few weeks from now She and Chris were headed back to his car. She buckled herself in and looked over to him. “Are you ok? I know this is a lot to take in.” She took his hand in hers. She squeezed his hand and smiled over to him.

Chris sighed. “It’s a huge responsibility. I’m trying to figure out how we are going to afford a baby. Where is the baby going to sleep? I just don’t know how we are going to do this. We barely make enough to take care of ourselves.” Chis took a breath and turned to Mercedes. “I’m just scared that I won’t be able to provide for this family. I can’t fail you Mercedes. I want to be someone that you look up to, not someone that disappoints you.” Chris didn’t know how to be a father and he didn’t know how he was going to take care of his family. He knew he needed to figure something out fast.

What: Mercedes and Chris find out if they are going to have a baby.

“I didn’t even realize you were flirting I just thought you really wanted to sell me a phone. But stopping at your booth was the best decision for me because I got you out of the deal too. Chris I love you and whatever happens, we have each other.” She smiled as he kissed her forehead and the door opened. Dr. Shaw walked in and smiled. “So Mercedes we have your blood work back and you are pregnant. If you lay back we can see how far along you are.” Mercedes was shocked but did as the doctor asked. She covered her legs with the sheet given to her as Dr. Shaw worked on her. A few minutes later she was looking at her baby on the Ultrasound screen. She wanted to cry not because she was sad but because she was happy. It was a beautiful sight. “Ok looks like you are about 6 weeks.” Mercedes smiled widely, she couldn’t take her eyes off the screen. She was pregnant, she was going to be a mom.

Chris nodded his head. He knew Mercedes was right and that they would get through it together. He gave his attention to the doctor as she walked in and gave Mercedes the results. Chris wasn’t surprised since the home pregnancy test revealed that they were indeed going to have a baby. All he could do was accept this and try to make the best of this situation. Chris watched as the doctor put some gel on Mercedes stomach and saw the little thing that looked nothing like a baby pop up on a screen. He did’t know what Mercedes was looking at, because the baby looked like a peanut. But just the thought of them making a life together was a blessing on it’s own. He wiped Mercedes tears and smiled at her. He knew it was going to be tough, but this was is life and he had to make sure he was able to provide for his new family. “Can we get a copy of that? I want to show my family,” he asked the doctor.

What: Mercedes and Chris find out if they are going to have a baby.

Mercedes could tell Chris was freaking out. He has to be thinking about all the things that they couldn’t afford, all the things that they couldn’t do. She had the same thoughts but she knew they would be ok. As long as they had each other. Christ stood up and paced and she took his hand in hers as he sat back down. “Chris they are busy you never go back on time just calm down.” She heard her name being called and she sighed standing. They were lead to a room where they drew her blood and told her to change into a gown. Mercedes did as asked and sat on th table. She knew Chris needed to take his mind off of everything. “Chris you remember when we met? I walked past your booth and you tried to sell me a phone. And even though I didn’t want one you convinced me to get a plan. And when I got home I had a text from you. It was sweet.”

Chris knew that Mercedes was right and he had to calm down. He took a deep breath and smiled at her. He figured that he didn’t have to figure anything out until they knew for sure if Mercedes was pregnant. He heard her named being called and took a deep breath before standing up and taking her had. He followed the nurse to the room and nervously looked around at all the medical things and for some reason, it made him nervous. He put his focus Mercedes and smiled at the memory. “I just remember you looking so pretty and I knew that I had to talk to you.So trying to sell you a phone seem like a great idea. And since I already had your number, I figured why not text you. That was the best decision because look at where we are now. l love you so much,” he said with a kiss to her forehead.

What: Mercedes and Chris find out if they are going to have a baby.

Mercedes wasn’t sure what she wanted to happen at this doctor’s visit. She wasn’t ready for a baby but she was about 90 percent sure she was going to have one anyways. Talking to Chris and Sam helped her realize that if she was pregnant everything would be ok. She would be ok. She had never had anyone support her in her life and now to have Chris be there for her and Sam helping out, she finally felt like maybe her life was getting better. She never wanted her child to experience the pain she did. Her mom was a junkie who didn’t know who Mercedes dad was, Mercedes was put in foster care after she called 911 on her mother who OD’d on heroine. Mercedes had been in 12 homes from the time she was 8 until she aged out at 16. Now she finally felt like she had a family and she could accept anything that came along with it. She had just finished her hair when Chris came out. “Yeah give me five minutes. I’m not hungry anyways so afterwards would be better.” Chris walked out the room and Mercedes sighed putting her shoes on and closing her eyes. “Lord whatever happens, Please let it all work out.” She grabbed her back and left locking the door behind her. Once in the car, the ride to the doctors office wasn’t quite she was still in thought when Chris pulled up. After signing in she sat down looking around at the various stages of pregnancy that was presented in that room. Soon that could be her, growing a life inside of her,

Chris sat in the waiting room besides Mercedes taking in his surroundings. He saw all the pregnant woman and could’t believe that would be Mercedes in a few months if she is pregnant. Chris didn’t know how they were going to take care of a baby. They didn’t have room and they couldn’t ask Sam to leave because it was his place also and they needed him to help pay the bills. Chris put his face in his hands and blew out a breath. what did he get them into. Why couldn’t he make sure he used a condom every time so that they didn’t end up in this predicament. He knew that he was going to have to get a second job to take care of his family and possibly move into a bigger apartment. He didn’t know how when they could barely afford the place that they live in. He got up and paced back and forth, his nerves getting the best of him. He sat back down rubbing his hands up and down his jeans. “What’s taking them so long?”
